The report's authors suggested governments take similar legislative approaches to those they had taken against tobacco in attempting to reduce consumption of alcohol and sugary drinks, and in limiting exposure to occupational and environmental carcinogens, including air pollution.

That either means "tax it" or "slap big 'you will die'" warning labels on it.

My confidence in the report dropped about 90% when I hit where the report's authors advocating taxing "sugary drinks" apparently due to some non cancer-prevention prejudice of their own.

They also want you to barricade yourself in your house, envelop yourself in saran wrap and kill your weakest child (to spare them from suffering) because some elderly person in a fifth world country died of Chechnyan Gopher Fever and IT'S COMING THIS WAY!

So this brilliant organization determined that as the population grew in numbers and aged, the gross number of cancer diagnosis would increase?  Truly this is a complete shock to all.  Well worth whatever the cost to obtain this report.

Smoking and drinking alcohol isn't the same thing.
I am not fermenting my apples into cigarettes, last time I checked, anyway.

Let people kill themselves in horribly slow and painful ways. Why should I give a damn? EVERYONE knows to stay healthy you need to exercise, keep a reasonable weight, limit sugar intake, not smoke cancer sticks (pure tobacco and pot is different), watch the fat intake, and stick to the recommended alcohol consumption guide (three drinks a week for women, four for men I think it is). If people want to choose vices over their health then FINE! Charge them more for health insurance.

Hell I have an obese co-worker who has had her gallbladder out and some intestine removed because she eats like 3 pizzas a day with 4 Big Macs, large fry, and has 4 2-liters of soda a day (diet of course). She hates to cook so all her meals are fast food because she can't afford to feed herself otherwise. Do I think we need to has taxes of fast food to force her to feed herself better? Hell no! She won't get help or change her ways. Let her die.

What do they propose people die of?

Look at the top 3 countries in the latest report of dying of cancer.  They all have great medical care and long lives and recent major decreases in death from smoking, heart attacks and strokes.

We are all going to die.

You mean the one where a democratic president vetoed the 18th amendment and it was overridden by the House of Representatives anyway?

So the GOP wants to banninate ghey buttsecks and marijawana  and the DNCCCP wants to banninate tobacco, alcohol, red meat, firearms, and they both agree with using the NSA to spy on you in a way that makes 1984 look tame by comparison.

Are there any good options short of a full blown guillotine on the Capital steps revolution?

My uncle was an Oncologist and he always said the biggest cause of cancer is that people are living long enough to get it.

I have a deep dislike for people who feel the need to alter behavior through taxation. It generally punishes the poor people while leaving the rich to do whatever they want.

Congrats!  You will live to 110!

Sorry!  You're life is going to be miserable because everything fun will be banned because you live so long and everything worth doing or enjoying will have been "attributed" to every ailment you get because you're too old and should have died 30 years prior.

Federalist #12:
The single article of ardent spirits, under federal regulation, might be made to furnish a considerable revenue. Upon a ratio to the importation into this State, the whole quantity imported into the United States may be estimated at four millions of gallons; which, at a shilling per gallon, would produce two hundred thousand pounds. That article would well bear this rate of duty; and if it should tend to diminish the consumption of it, such an effect would be equally favorable to the agriculture, to the economy, to the morals, and to the health of the society. There is, perhaps, nothing so much a subject of national extravagance as these spirits.

Written by that Democratic commie Alex Hamilton.

// also, after the 21st Amendment took effect, a journalist asked FDR what he'd like
// "I think I'd like a drink", said Ironsides
