Sure, whatever, homo loving subby.

There have also been studies that WHOLE milk is better for you when it comes to losing weight than skim milk.

/although, if you're going to drink a whole gallon a day or something, that may not work out so much for you

You aren't supposed to drink milk after you've been weaned. You drink mead after that.

Yes, and they used to feed lobster only to prisoners.

Wait, I'm not ready for a milk snob thread.  I need some popcorn.

Ahh!  There's no time for the air popper.  Microwave it is.

If animals were smart enough to get milk as adults they'd drink it too.  Look what a cat does when humans do all the legwork for it.

Didn't read TFA but the poor shleps who drink skim thinking they're doing their bodies a favor vs whole milk are suffering needlessly. It may not sound logical but fat does not make you fat (sugar, starches and flour do).

Loves me real dairy whole cream milk and butter!!

Neither excess fat or sugar is particularly good for you.

You'll gain more weight eating steak than chicken and clog those arteries up too.

Dr. Atkins died obese and with heart problems.

Best to just eat sensibly and in moderation rather than avoid all sugars or avoid all fats.

Yup, and people who eat tomatoes, whether whole, processed into ketchup, or spread on pizza or pasta, are basically eating DEADLY POISONOUS FRUIT FROM THE NIGHTSHADE FAMILY.

TLDR: people sometimes waste perfectly useful food because they're ignorant. Or because, you know, different tastes.

I would drink it if they stopped fortifying it with Vitamin A Palmitate. Stuff gives me gas. Whole milk doesn't get that treatment and I have a happy GIS.

2014-02-04 09:18:22 AM
Whole milk's much better (if you have two hot strippers and a kiddie pool).

While we're at it, let's bring back the rest of the "good, old days" too.  We'll take back the vote from wimmen, re-enslave the uppity negros, dump raw sewage in the river, dump solid waste into a handy ravine, and resume wholesale slaughter of indigenous peoples so's we can take their land and resources.

When I was a kid, I used to eat cat food. Only later did I learn that it's actually cat feed. Never again.

Why the skimmed milk hate?

360 cal/l for skimmed milk versus 640 cal/l for whole milk.
I probably drink 0,75 l per day, so that's 210 cal I'm missing out on per day.

That's 25 g worth of butter, that I just apply elsewhere.

The armchair nutritionists are starting to trickle in, I see.  Many citations will be needed.

I drink skim milk because I was raised on it and I prefer it.  You can drink whatever you want, but please don't make up a bunch of BS excuses for why it's better.

2014-02-04 09:26:25 AM
I clicked thinking that there would be a bunch of idiot skim milk drinkers in this thread, defending their gray imitation water.

Happily wrong, and pleased that most of you are sane whole milk drinkers.

Not that there's anything wrong with drinking mead.  yummy mead.  Gotta make another batch soon.

When tourists who ventured to the countryside to be energized by fresh breezes found themselves breathing the foul vapors of "dairy air" instead, disappointment ensued.

Most people who breath the foul vapors of my derriere when expecting fresh breezes are usually disappointed as well.

And sadly, before I finished clicking add comment, the skim idiots appeared.

Skim milk tastes of failure.  Watery failure.  It's suitable only for making industrial products, not for drinking.

Throw the microwave stuff away (you can use it to piss your co-workers off at the office, burn it) and heaven forbid the air popped stuff. It tastes like packing foam.

Mushroom popcorn. Whirly popper. Coconut popping oil. Flavacol seasoning. Add the theatre butter if you must. Serve in a 6 bbl. grocery sack. IMHO.

Too watery, not creamy enough.

Coconut milk/cream from the Thai store is much better. Dilute if too creamy but the almond milk already comes too watery.

I use the unsweetened version in my protein shakes. It's pretty good if you don't have to drink it straight.

The almond and coconut 'milks' are not an option if you don't want to suck down pure salicylates.

Gecko Gingrich: My daughter and I have been reading Charlotte's Web together over the past few days. I thought it was odd that every time some "slops" were brought to Wilbur it included skim milk.

Before modern dairy regulations, it was commonplace for farmers to have a few milk cows that were kept as a family milk supply but more importantly, to run the milk through the cream separator and sell the cream.  The skim was fed to hogs and chickens.  It really makes for tasty pork and a bit of skim milk seems to perk up egg production amongst the hens pretty well.

Those were the days before margarine and before refrigerated milk trucks.  The cream would be put into the cream can and the creamery guy (every small town had its creamery) would come around every day or every other day on his route and pick up the full ones and leave the empties.  If the cream was out in the heat for a day or two, it didn't really matter - butter made from clabbered cream usually has higher butterfat and lower water percent.  You know how butter sizzles when you drop a pat onto a hot griddle?  That's the water turning to steam.  If you were to make homemade butter with clabbered cream, it would have about half as much water in it and the water would be dispersed differently so that there were be a lot less sizzle in the butter.  But if you make pastries, you'd notice the difference (for the better) using clabbered cream butter instead of sweet cream.

We tried it for a few weeks, and the lack of protein was annoying. We had a bunch of smoothie recipes that called for almond milk and protein powder. Yeah, or I'll just buy some soy milk and save myself the trouble.
