I do avoid at all possible junctures. My droid is rooted, all their assware is gone or frozen and I love to sideload all my apps which I get without their store.

Yea reading it looks like the permits never would have been issued had Google asked for them so why bother asking, especially when the penalty is "please move it".

San Francisco is the home to the largest pack hypocritical fake bunch of people gathered into one place.  California natives tend to be cool, but the transplants love going on about how they are so liberal, live and let live, and really are just entitled whiney biatches.

Correction: a normal, non-rich person try building a house that way and see what happens.

If they offer to move it to Cleveland, Ohio they could do anything they wanted. The city would very likely redirect the sin tax (currently used to bribe the local sports franchises not to move their teams away) to help pay for it.

2014-02-04 10:38:38 AM
They aren't really ship building, right? It's more a matter of fitting and decorating.

Ehh, this is what happens when busybody regulators smell money. Suddenly your permits don't cover what you bought they did.

GDubDub: I don't understand all of the Google-hate.

I look at google this way.  I don't know what they want to be.  So when they say things like 'don't be evil' and do things like trying to create contacts to measure your insulin levels or silly glasses to record others standing in line for their expresso I have to recheck google's 10-k to see if they are still an advertising company.  And then I just roll my eyes and go back to ignoring them.

/what does 'evil' really mean anyways?

2014-02-04 10:42:15 AM
Don't permit evil

Reading comprehension fail.  The City of San Francisco doesn't have anything to do with this call.  A State board talked to a regional conservancy who owned the space in use and told them that the barge couldn't stay there unless they (Google) applied for different permits.  The conservancy had in their contract that Google was responsible for making sure it had all the permits it needed.  If anything, Google is more likely to go to San Francisco proper now where they can easily get the right permits instead of halfway out in the Bay.

2014-02-04 10:48:52 AM
Subby needs to improve his reading comprehension, because -- as noted in TFA's farking headline, this was the state of California growing a pair; the city had nothing to do with this order.

Trust me, our mayor would kill his own family with his bare hands, then pluck out his own eyes, before he would dream of antagonizing one of the corporate overlords.

Well thanks! I was frankly amazed it wasn't taken.

2014-02-04 10:56:40 AM
guy i work with is dead convinced that google's got an actual fully aware AI on that barge.

according to him, the reason they have it on the barge is better isolation, either because it's hostile or because it wants to spread to the rest of the world.(take your pick which theory it is on any given day, it changes regularly)

2014-02-04 10:57:25 AM

FTFA: "Goldzband said if the barge is eventually completed, it will need more even permits to be moored or docked. "

I guess the uneven permits just don't cut it.

It's a barge, not a ship. We would see headlines: Google Barge Sinks Near Farallon Islands.

2014-02-04 11:28:25 AM
FTFA: The space to build the barge is being leased by the Treasure Island Development Authority for $79,000 per month under a contract

You would think that if someone with Development Authority in thier name is leasing a place for $79,000 per month they would have the Authority to Develope something.

/Google should move it about 300 miles north.  Oregon may appreciate all those jobs, taxes, attractions ect.
