It seems like the only thing conservatives love more than accusing everyone else of being old-school Russian commies is Vladimir Putin: an old-school Russian commie.

Of course conservatives love Putin... he is their dream leader. Homophobic, xenophobic, executes journalists, imprisons feminists, butchers Muslims, likes to take his shirt off and wrestle young men.

"What did Yanukovych do to deserve ouster by the street? He chose Russia over Europe."

Why didn't he chose Ukraine.
By saying this the author seems to be implying that Ukraine is nothing more than a puppet state for someone it's just that they disagree on who to be a puppet state for. I don't believe that that is the case.
Shows what little respect the author has for democracy and the freedoms for people to decide their own countries future.

Pat Buchanan is a weird combination of old-school isolationist and theocrat.  There are times when his remarks about American Imperialism and us getting involved in foreign affairs that are none of our business, make a legitimate point.

This is not one of those times.  His analysis of Egypt is laughable, and he seems to forget that this administration has been a vast improvement on the previous administration's slavish devotion to neoconservative globalism.  Pat is also wishing really hard that the world still worked like it did in the 19th century.

I don't know, he did quite well in 2000:

Of course this moron would want to slobber Putin's knob. All these moronic conservatives and tea 'tards want to wet Putin up and let him slip in their pooper. They love the guy. Never mind he is exactly what they accuse the President of and would jail their sorry, ignorant asses in a heartbeat.

And I think what the Ukraine is doing is awesome. Don't fark with Ukrainians. They held out against Stalin until 1954 with partisan fighting.

This. It's possible that Putin's policies in Russia are something that they want put in place in the US.

But on the other hand, they denounce Communism, Socialism, etc. And, as you already said, Putin is an old-school Commie.

He's their strongest tie to a time when their anti-communism actually meant something.  It's like being able to go to a tribute band concert where one of the original backup guitarists comes out and plays a surprise set.  Fond memories of a time when they were younger, better looking, and relevant.

"The United States appears now to be collaborating with Europe in bringing about the neutering or overthrow of that democratically elected government. Military coups, a la Cairo, and mob uprisings, a la Kiev-are these now legitimate weapons in the arsenal of democracy? Military coups, a la Cairo, and mob uprisings, a la Kiev-are these now legitimate weapons in the arsenal of democracy?"

Oh FFS. He'd have to be a frigging moron to seriously believe that the US has never been involved in installing a puppet government until Obama and Kerry came along. Oh, wait...
