...and we'll be lucky to live thru it.

So, just another typical day in Ireland, right?

6 or 7 pints of Bud is enough to turn an ordinary bloke into a rapist? Lightweight indeed!

Welcome to yesterday.

I am not understanding this.  If, on a Friday I drink too much, even way too much, I don't turn into a murdering rapist.  What am I missing here?

It's like the traditional abusive chain letter but with added felony! What's not to like?

Bull shiat, having lived in Ireland, I can say with some certainty that the Irish have been drinking like this forever.  All that's new is that they're putting them on the youtubes.

mrswood: Welcome to yesterday.

Maybe subby's playing and submitting this again was his post-pint stunt.

You're the third type of NekNominee: you died in a drunken act of gross stupidity but you apparently haven't noticed yet.

Sorry to break the bad news.

I'm tired of the double standard. If women are not responsible for themselves sexually when drunk then neither are men.

Quit trying to justify your last date rape.

...and they're going from drinking a few pints of beer, or cider, to a full bottle of whiskey in one gulp. Two teenagers in Ireland died last weekend from this Neknomination game, whatever the hell it is.

I had better warn my wife that i'm going to turn into a murderous rapist this weekend because I plan to have a few drinks.  I'll have her lock me in the spare bedroom for her own safety.

You're not trying hard enough.  Get busy or hang up your drinking glass.

As compared to Ireland's traditionally low alcohol related death rate?

Well if this is to be believed  http://www.worldlifeexpectancy.com/cause-of-death/alcohol/by-country/  , a lot more of you guys are dying from it, than us -  Ireland has the 102nd highest rate, compared to the USA's 49th place.

Oh hey, no argument here.  We're morons when it comes to stuff like this.  And when/if the neknomination craze crosses the atlantic we'll blame it for that too.

Anyway in a country of only 5 million, two teenage deaths directly related to one particular 'game' is pretty newsworthy, a few seasoned alcoholic's death from liver failure, probably less so.

It's chugging 1 pint within 24 hours of being nominated, and then nominating someone to do the same.... unless you're chugging a pint of 12M Hydrochloric acid, or other caustic/poisonous substance, there's no way this could kill you....

Even if it's a pint of whiskey, that's only 8 shots.... still not a whole lot.  I would never want to chug that much but I can easily drink that much in one night and be fine the next morning... there's something to this story that they're not telling everyone.

So you're saying that without this specific game these kids would have been home practicing the piano?
Please, people are going to get shiatfaced and jump in a river with or without a camera around.

That's my point: it is ONLY in the news because of the game.  Doesn't mean it wouldn't have happened without it.  Kids die all the time (and I'm talking about over here too) from doing stupid things while drunk.  It's just that for these two deaths we have a convenient game to blame it on rather than addressing underlying issues.

Is it? OK, well I don't know the rules. I do know  I would be completely farked if I knocked back a pint of whiskey.

One of the guys jumped off a bridge into a river, the other, the details weren't released of exactly what caused his death, but he was put to his bed afterdrinking his pint and found dead the next morning.

I'm saying nothing of the sort - they probably would have been chilling out in the pub with their friends, having a few pints.

Anyway, what's wrong with a bit of hysteria. You can't beat it.

Obviously bartenders need to step in and tell these frilly nancies to stop waiting for someone to nominate them a drink. Once they're pushed to knockout levels of alcohol they won't be able to act up, seven pints is not enough.

Nope. Those dudes died from a combination of terminal stupidity and spinelessness.

Pub life is one of the things I really miss. I also miss getting up at six and walking up Grafton to meet my girlfriend after a night out on Harcourt street - it's pretty hysterical.  Night of the living dead indeed.  Seriously one of my favourite things.

Stupid kids die doing stupid things. The vast majority of kids won't die or do anything bad from this game.

Fun times! I used to practically live in POD at the end of Harcourt Street. Amazing club, long gone :(
