I remember my roommate buying the SNES SF II game on launch day. $74.99. We played the living shiat out of that game for weeks.

I can get a copy on eBay right now for like ten bucks.

/come on Retron 5!

Fantastic dossier about the circumstances surrounding the creation of Street Fighter II, as told by the very same people who were there.

I have to commend Polygon for doing this piece because it's just great journalism. Polygon has surprised and impressed me more and more with each passing day.

I've known most of this stuff for years since I was very very very very very into Street Fighter and the whole fighting game scene in general. I wasn't very good at it (talking about mid to high competition level, yes, I could perform the moves and play decently, but nothing to win a tournament even though I did participate.) But it's always great to have it all in a nice package.  Game design and theory has always fascinated me too.
