I get maybe "Graphic sex acts" to get rid of true porn... but, doesn't a "nudity" ban basically drop half of the PG-13 and R movies on Netflix?

You can't access porn on a Roku box (that I'm aware of). It hasn't hurt them.

It is basically just not in the "Roku Guide"... which is probably what will end up happening here as well... porn won't be in the list of "approved" Chromecast apps, but, you'll be able to add them in pretty easily anyway.

Not to mention documentaries about African tribes or material about breastfeeding.  Facebook has punished people for posting pics of the obscenity that is human infant feeding (and looked like assholes for doing it).

Lulz. Hate speech and bullying. So very modern or you, Google. This makes little sense.

Well, no. Because AFAIAA, these have to be in the store. If you're a porn company that means that they can ban you after a load of development.

As far as Android/iPhone apps are concerned, I don't think porn matters. Porn games have never been a big market. But streaming porn is. A lot of people want a box in the bedroom. And that means they'll consider a Roku over the alternatives.

It's good they are reflecting the Puritan values of American culture by publicly stating there will be no porn apps. To fully embody these values they should secretly offer porn apps for a nominal fee.

You do realize that you can still watch porn on chrome cast quite easily right?

It will still work if you stream the porn from a browser window and cast the tab.

There are tons of private Roku channels, including porn. Most are not very good, but they do exist.

So.  They just cost themselves a sale.  It's not THAT difficult to plug the HDMI cable into my laptop.

If you read the article, " Chromecast apps also have to adhere to the Google Play developers program policies". Is it. Apparently Google play doesn't allow porn. Netflix has been on Google Play for a long time, so I wouldn't worry about it.

The google play policy is
"Sexually Explicit Material: We don't allow content that contains nudity, graphic sex acts, or sexually explicit material. Google has a zero-tolerance policy against child sexual abuse imagery. If we become aware of content with child sexual abuse imagery, we will report it to the appropriate authorities and delete the Google Accounts of those involved with the distribution.  "

Yes, they probably allow bending of the rules for nudity, but you probably can't produce a strip poker game.

Who needs an app when you can cast directly from the Chrome browser?

2014-02-04 09:20:16 AM
Aw, isn't that cute? Good luck with that. Google is using this as a backhanded way of attracting attention for Chromecast, a latecomer to the market. Roku does the job, does it better than Chromecast, with fewer limitations (both actual and manufactured.)

Also, I can't wait to see how Google forces Chromecast users into Google+... Google+ SDK already has Chromecast hooks & support, so, it's coming, folks. You think having to log into Google+ for YouTube sucks, let's see how folks enjoy having their Chromecast usage dumped into Google+ for farming purposes.

Does tab-casting play sound yet? I thought it was on silent. Or maybe that was desktop-casting.

Looking at the site out of curiosity, people will pay for porn? just to get it on their TV?
Examples are GGW, $30/month. some charge per minute.
That's fking insane.
if you are so desperate to get porn on your big screen, hook up a laptop to it.

2014-02-04 09:50:29 AM
The Chromecast Terms of Service include a number of device-specific requirements, including the demand to include protections against screen burn-in and a clause that tells developers not to enable the rooting of the device.

Oh, fark you, Google.

There are still bugs to work out, but if they can get TabCasting to run smoothly, that will take care of the p0rn issue.

TabCasting will be the "killer-app" for the device

That's why my desktop is hooked up to a 42" 1080P.  Games and Porn on a big screen in hi def....I can also do the same with my Atrix HD.

I've had mine plugged in since Christmas and haven't had a single problem with it.

And yeah, Google just stated they won't offer any porn apps, but like most of you guys mentioned, it's easy enough to open up pron in a Chrome tab and cast it over.

I'm digging mine, anyway.  And I know a few people I've talked to that when out and bought one for themselves.

I was thoroughly unimpressed with ChromeCast and took mine back after a little over a week. Roku just does it better, has more channels and support (including porn, if you want it), and it's not dependent on a second device to find and load content (unless you're talking about Plex, but that's on ChromeCast, too).

Roku also plays nice with my Harmony remote. ChromeCast doesn't. It wants me to use a tablet or smart phone as a remote control when I already have a nice universal remote control that handles EVERYTHING.

Yes, the ChromeCast price is right, but for around $15 more you can get the Roku 1 (latest generation, new numbering system), which does a lot more, and doesn't need a tablet, PC, or smart phone to be useful.

James!: Go to internet.  Go to porn.  Cast porn to TV. Bask in personal shame.

Video cast from the browser is often laggy and awful on ChromeCast.

And again, when casting browser tabs, it's basically a less-useful alternative to just running an HDMI cord to your TV. You still need that PC to view your content, so what the hell's the point of the ChromeCast in this case?

On Roku, the device itself streams the content. No external device required.

I haven't had any lag or rebooting issues with my chrome cast. Once they set up the chrome app to cast over I'll be controlling 90% of my TV watching from my cell phone.

No long ass cable from my bed to my tv.

Chromecast has HBOGo and I can stream anything that's on my computer screen to my TV. Roku doesn't have either of those capabilities.

Google just released the SDK for Chromecast yesterday, so the apps available should be exploding soon. Both officially sanctioned and unsanctioned apps. Looking forward to a Showtime app.

So for $35, it's a nice addition to my Roku player.

Sorry for the aside, but I don't know anywhere else to get in front of a bunch of smart Chromecast users...anyone else get BSODs when casting a tab? I'm on Windows 7, never have any other problems, but if I cast a tab long enough eventually it will always BSOD the PC. Usually takes about an hour or two (so, like, 3rd quarter of a streaming football games). I have no idea what's causing it and can't find anyone else talking about it. Anybody?

TV has commercials. What do I care if they're random, like they are now, or tailored to fit who they think I am? They're still a pain in the ass and nothing changes that.

I returned my Chromcast.. I needed 1080p. I've got a 40in LED and sit about 5ft away. Love my Roku 1 although the Hulu app is a bit sluggish.  Will pick up Chromecast when they release a new version with 1080p support

Um...my Chromecast does HBOGo in 1080p. Or at least that's what my TV is telling me it's broadcasting at. I don't think my TV is lying to me, because the picture looks great.
