This person is a ruthless recidivist.

Incarcerated for life, fed, clothed and housed for the killings of four people, he escapes and immediately abducts an innocent woman.

How can we possibly keep him from being a threat to society at large, in the future?

Oh, yeah, yeah.  I almost forgot.

considering they shoot unarmed people regularly how did a guy with a box cutter and a hammer not get shot down?

Its been between 0 and 10F in Michigan and Indiana for the last two weeks. Everyone probably just wanted to get back into a warm cruiser, not stand around outside being or documenting a dead body.
