It's not that democrats can't take a joke, it's that republican humor sucks.

And Republicans can take a joke, really? The only joke they can take is from a young male intern in an Airport Bathroom.

2014-02-03 08:38:26 PM
Reince Priebus, the RNC Chair, has spent the last week screaming bloody murder because an intern at MSNBC made a joke about right wingers railing against a multi-racial couple in a Cheerios ad.  On the same day that the sequel to the commercial came out, right wingers started railing against a Coke commercial that had the audacity to sing verse of "America the Beautiful" in other languages,

Republicans don't just take a joke, they are the joke.

Remember that time they were totally okay with making a joke about taking a gigantic shiat in Palin's mouth?

Or lipstick on a pig.

I don't know, I know plenty of conservatives who can take a joke, but they seem to get drowned out by the 101st Keyboardist Brigade.

When did we get indented quoting?

This seems wrong. SNL made insane amounts of fun at Clinton. Obama just doesn't have that many things about him that are funny. Even the things which can be genuinely annoying about him (like his verbosity or professorial attitude) aren't very funny in sketch form.

That wasn't a joke. That was a suggestion.

/But then, Duck Dynasty douche's quote about how Blacks were happier under Jim Crow was also a suggestion rather than a joke.

The indented quoting is TOO BRIGHT!

2014-02-03 09:31:27 PM
I have a different theory on Lorne.  It's all about the re-runs.   Lorne runs very little political sketch humor on the show, because it loses freshness rapidly and doesn't always lead to funny "best of" compilation DVD material. He gets a taste of all those repeats and DVD sales, and so he goes for jokes that are based on more "evergreen" concepts and tropes.   He's making big money too, and so has no reason to rock the boat anymore.

2014-02-03 09:32:03 PM
- Republicans do more stupid shiat
- Republicans aren't funny

Dennis Miller for example was only funny when he pretended not to be a conservative,

If New Jersey had a fat, boorish Democratic governor who closed multiple lanes of traffic on the GW Bridge for petty political purposes, I bet SNL would have some fun with the situation.

I just haven't seen a never-ending parade of clowns like the GOP has brought us in the last decade. The early 80s were somewhat similar for Democrats, but there was literally nothing like Palin Bachmann Overdrive.

I mean Louis Gohmert is taken seriously enough to get network news coverage.

Of course Democrats can't take a joke--that's precisely why Portlandia has done so terribly.

2014-02-03 09:37:28 PM
Because you actually have to look for left-wingers acting like retards, unlike right-wingers who march right up to your door, take a big, steaming dump of craziness on your porch, and ring the door bell. In short, there are stupid and crazy left-wingers out there (Jezebel writing staff, freegans, PETA, the go back to hunter-gatherer types), but they tend to be obscure and secretive, and thus rarely make the news.
/I would actually like to see the primitive anarchist people (the go back to hunter gatherer people) get mocked. I can just see a bunch of pretentious collage English majors going out to the woods to "free themselves" from all modern technology and learning why being a hunter-gatherer sucks.

I prefer to think of the foreigners in the Coke commercial as living in occupied territory.  That way it looks like Coke produced an ad supporting U.S. global imperialism.

That conversation does completely ignore Will Ferrell, who is one of the most active left-wing comedians that isn't just entirely apathetic to the political process. It's a small wonder to me that he has been able to keep his politics and his popular persona separate, because he has pretty visceral political views, and makes movies that largely cater to a Talladega Nights audience.

You know, for a party that sure hates them some Hollywood types, they sure do act like the suitor scorned. And when they do get them some Hollywood types who publicly side with them, they can't tout said Hollywood type enough.

I just ... I just don't get it.

You raise a good point. I thought the 2012 debate ones were hilarious but now I realized that a lot of it was because the guy playing Romney (can't remember his name) did a great job at making him look like an incompetent buffoon and Armisen was just riding on his coattails.
