My Korean wife & I visited her parents after we got married. My father-in-law offered me a shot of Soju, which I accepted. He offered another, which I accepted. I was on an empty stomach and not much of a drinker to start with and was feeling the effects. He offered me another, and I did not want to give offence, so I accepted it. Two more and I was starting to get pretty drunk. I asked my wife if I could decline without offending him and she said by all means, and in fact during this time he had asked her if I was an alcoholic, and why did I keep drinking all this soju, as it was only lunchtime? As it turned out he didn't want to offend me by not offering me more.

"A problem with the way South Koreans drink is that they drink fast to get drunk fast,"

Problem? I'm already scheduling my next vacation.
