Good luck to them. Maybe, just maybe, this country is finally coming to it senses about cannabis.

It'll be a long road still, paved with Doritos.

Lick the dust off before you come in.

We need to keep it illegal so as to be tough on crime. ...because if it weren't a crime to smoke pot, then we'd have fewer criminals to be tough on, I guess.

To be honest, I'm really not sure how the opposition logic works, but apparently it works well. I guess fear, uncertainty, and doubt is an easy-sell.

There's a long history of alcohol being legal (and a well-known, disastrous history of its prohibition), so people are familiar with it's characteristics, both good & bad.  It's easier, I think, to spread fear about something that most voters haven't tried and have little experience with -- given that it's been illegal for their entire lives (in most cases).

As the article points out, apathy sinks everything. "Eh, why not?" isn't nearly as compelling as "I hate the smell" or "I hate those panhandling junkies on the street corner."

Then you have campaigns like California's, where propaganda tapped right into smokers' paranoia of being tracked for supporting or voting for legalization, or shaming them for supporting a corrupt government by participating instead of "subverting" it. By getting high illegally. Down with the man, man.

It's criminal to withhold Medical Marijuana.  I saw how much it helped my mother as she went through terminal pancreatic cancer - it works.  At least Arizona has rational citizens - Let's hope Florida has some basic common decency.

/still, Florida

I live in Florida and I'm a chronic pain patient. I can get morphine and oxycodone by the handful (my last bottle of oxycodone had 534 pills), but I can't use marijuana to control my pain.  Thankfully, morphine and oxycodone are non-addictive and completely safe. Plus I can't grow them in my backyard, so the profits of the pharmaceutical companies are ensured. So, its a win-win?

Good luck with that.  Jesus made pot illegal when he hand delivered the 10 amendments.

Yeah, we need to keep weed illegal. How else are the honest folks in the pharmaceutical and prison industries supposed to prosper if we let people just smoke, relax, eat Doritos and watch every episode of 'Fringe' back to back?

*note my sarcasm, por favor*

This could go either way considering all the old people and conservatives in the state.

Florida and Georgia will probably be the first of the southern states to decriminalize or legalize medicinally. A recent poll in Georgia showed opinions on marijuana that are consistent with the normal states, and quite a few representatives on both sides of the spectrum are willing to tackle the issue.

If those two backward states can go forward with easing up on cannabis, it would be a major victory.

I saw Willie Nelson in concert last night, and there were a lot of old yankee snowbirds heavily offended that people were lighting up joints.

One old cuss with a Masshole accent says to a guy "Put that out, my wife does not like the way it smells". Mind you we were outside in a park.

The guy replies"You mean to tell me it smells worse than the Philippines, where you obviously bought her from?"   They moved.

But Willie was a little bit high when he yelled out hello Jacksonville, and we were in Ocala.

It would be interesting to try and guess the order that states legalize pot. What state would be last?

"Don't like the smell" is such a lame line. I don't like the smell of the old ladies who get on the bus coated in perfume, but I am not calling for banning it or acting like an asshole every time one of these ladies comes around.

A free society means we have to endure some amount of things we don't like.

Here is Rosenfeld's testimony before a Mich. Leg. Committee (2006) on medical marijuana legislation (he brings his fed issued tin of smokes - Courtesy of the cigarette rolling machine at The National Institutes on Drug Abuse).   http://www.youtube.com/wa tch?v=B1NggzEkltM

He testified on the same issue in KY last year.  Pretty farking healthy for a self dosing, Government Issued weed smoking, lab rat.  Can pretty much say that 9 oz. of mid range Fed grown marijuana, a month, for over 30 years, doesn't impact one's drive; that said, if one is already a lazy mo-fo without the weed - it will simply serve as another excuse.  Oh, just to nip the shiat in the bud:  Yeah, it's so much Stonger, now!  And, if the Feds were interested, they could go with a 10.5% Delta Nine cultivar instead of their 3.5% line and save on the shipping cost to Rosenfeld as he'd smoke only a third as much (titrating the farking dose).  GAO should look into this waste of Federal dollars.

Just a note to those who don't know:  These few Federal `patients'  have never been monitored/examined/tested by the Feds (Feds spent plenty on testing monkeys administered enormous amounts of D9THC - IV by the way - `yo` mama gonna find ya!!' - it will kill you!) but they refuse(d) all requests by their human cohort to perform exams for long term deleterious effects of smoking so much for so long.  Patients finally had specialists perform thorough diagnostics.  Other than minor acute bronchitis (from smoking) and enhanced ability to cope with their underlying diseases?  Nada.  And those results were exactly what NIDA/DEA didn't want to know (sponsors ain't paying for good news - uh, uh).

Ocala is chock full of them, we have a community outside of town called the Villages with thousands of them.  Plus, they have been here for years in little winter home trailer parks.

Here's one ol' fart in SoFL who will vote for legalization.

Sure, there will be abusers, but I watched a friend barf her way thru chemo. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
