For everyone who despises the far-gone far-right, there is someone else whom the Tea Party and the fundamentalists have frightened into soiling his pants. As the art of critical thinking continues to deteriorate, the number of poor dumb frightened morons increases day by day.

Because one billionaire who wants to see this country turned back to the robber baron days where after an industrial accident caused by no "job-destroying" regulations he can charge the family of a dead worker for the damage caused to a machine by the worker's corpse can use PACs to donate more than ten thousand average people?

For the same reason why the sane moderates do poorly in the primary elections.  The hard-core "true believers" are more motivated than the normal people who just want to live their lives, and are less likely to vote/contribute for any candidate.

It's kind of funny how the people that complain the most about how they are being 'taxed to death' always have funds available to donate to right wing politicians, buy right wing pundits books, buy guns, and make special trips to eat at Chick-fil-a.

2014-02-02 09:53:13 AM
Because the extreme right wing of the Republican Party is the one that most wants unfettered capitalism and elimination of income tax, which would greatly benefit the wealthy. The wealthy are in the best position to contribute to large sums to those candidates to shift the public policy debate toward what will benefit them the most.

Or, to put it more succinctly:

Rocket To Russia: Because rich people have lots of money?

2014-02-02 09:53:57 AM
Because George Soros funds them anonymously in the primaries through Acron, to ensure that Democratic candidates will come up against a pants-on-head whackaloon instead of a sensible moderate who might actually have a chance of winning.

Ron Paul's like your crazy old uncle who every once in a blue moon will say something that makes 100 percent sense (legalization of marijuana, opposition to the patriot act, telling off the people who didn't want a Mosque built anywhere near the 9/11 memorial) and makes you ignore the rest of his guanopsychopathy (running health regs on the honor system, crippling the fed, etc)

Pretty much.  You have these terrified little old ladies who are willing to eat tap water over generic Corn Flakes for a week if the nice man on TV can use her Social Security check to keep her granddaughter from turning into a lesbian.

Hmm subby, maybe because polarizing extremists get lots of attention.

To your average bagger, negative attention is just as good as positive. No such thing as "Bad" press to bad people.

I'm trying to imagine what the average tea party donor looks like. I'm thinking along the lines of a grease and dirt covered hoverround jockey in his/her sixties. In a darkened trailer they watched transfixed at Hannity, their eyes glazed over and mouths hanging open. He scratches the nits hiding under his man boobs with his plastic fork, before using it to shovel Chick-fil-a into his mouth. She tears at their welfare check with her stubby fingers. The house is filled with fast food wrappers, dust, and hoarded gold and ammo. The only books in the house are those by political pundents and a dusty, unread copy of the Bible. They stare into the glow of the television, imagining the world they seek. A world where everyone lived in nuclear families in the suburbs, where blacks weren't uppity and homos didn't exist, a wholesome and innocent world that they looked back on with reverent nostalgia and held as the real America. A world that was as fictional as Narnia and Middle Earth, a world that really contained countless terrible things that they were too young to understand, a world that was a carefully constructed lie to prey on their memories.

RON PAUL opposes civil rights and the ADA and wants to mint gold denarii because if you yell "fiat currency!" loud enough some mouth breathers will eventually agree with you.

My f*cking ass he isn't extreme right wing

Richard C Stanford:  The only books in the house are those by political pundents and a dusty, unread copy of the Bible.

Well, no.  Unopened maybe, but the outside of that bible is covered with fast food grease and hand-dirt from being clutched and waved about at those Libruls on the TV.  Oh, and there are a dozen Prosperity Gospel books about telling them what that bible (allegedly) says, so they don't have to read it.
