This is the first year I heard of it, twice by way of Jezebel oddly. I guess it's been around a while and is just picking up steam now.

I like how he totally ignores that beer has nearly twice the calories of wine, and even higher % compared to hard liquor...

No.. you are not drinking enough beer, and if you are located in Virginia, North, or South Carolina, and the outer banks of both of those states,  Washington DC, Baltimore, Baltimore county, or Tampa Florida..  you must immediately go out and purchase AND consume A six pack of Legend Brewing Co brand Brown ale.

your very health and well being, as well as my pay check REQUIRES you do this.

STOP TELLING ME TO DRINK MODERATELY.

A six-pack IS my moderate. It's barely a buzz ffs.

Oh one glass of per week? Pfft.

Yes, I admit I raised my tolerance a hell of a lot over the summer now that I live on the water and have a boat. But wth, I am an unnattractive man who only enjoys the company of others in moderation. I have a good job and a goddamn boat. I am probably going to die alone with or without alcohol, why deprive myself?

I don't drink and drive, I don't get angry-drunk or sloppy-drunk, I don't drink in a way that hurts anyone else nor does it interefere with my job. I easily go weeks without drinking, so I doubt I am an alcoholic - even a functional one.

So somebody tell me why I should be stressing about enjoying this behavior?

I get so tired of this constant preaching that I should be more or else teetotaling. But if I must be preached to, call it what it is: so little alcohol there is no point. "Moderate drinking" is the alcohol equivalent to grinding on a woman while wearing jeans and not climaxing.

Into five beers so far, plus four shots of vodka.

I think I'm doing fine.

Dry January? Fark that. Especially with brewers putting out excellent stouts/porters during this time of year.

Depends on which study one is reading at any given time I suppose. I used hyperbole there, but I've seen stuff like no more than three in a day and no more than two of these sessions in a week.

Now that may be healthy, but is also a silly amount in this drinker's opinion.

Stouts and Porters count as food, so they're not really beers.

Works well with Vit C right?

Just completed my 5th annual 'dry January.'

It's not difficult, you just take drinking out of the equation.  There's lots of football and hockey to watch and I just chill.

Mid 40s, I've been a beer drinker for 25 years, so I figured I'd give my liver off 1 month per year.

Also thought that if I couldn't stop drinking for a month, then I probably should stop drinking for at least a month.  But havent had an issue stopping drinking - it's not really difficult for me, which I am happy about since there is alcoholism in the family.  I definitely have the 'off' switch - I love a nice buzz but don't like being pie-eyed and can stop before I get there.

It's been almost a decade, but I did my part when I lived in Richmond.  I'd tell  you to get your product on Minnesota shelves, but honestly, the local micro-brew scene here has just exploded the past 5 years or so.  Summit, Surly, Fulton, and Schell can reliably be found on store shelves, but the other dozen brands you pretty much need to go to the brewery if you want some.  Ok, Schell isn't really a micro, but they're still doing some good things these days, and Grain Belt is a lawn mowing kind of beer if ever there was one.

Also, I home brew and have about 15 gallons sitting in the keezer right now.  I think I'm getting adequate beer consumption.

Dry January is for poor people who overspent their xmas/new years.

It's okay, well let you believe its a choice, just like your "New Year Diet" and "Who Needs Utilities Month".

2014-02-01 10:26:41 PM
Considering the fact that it is 9:30pm and I am still painfully hungover from last night, I would like to respectfully disagree.

//getting old sucks

2014-02-01 10:28:38 PM
Of course not. The beer sits alone in the fridge when there's bourbon to be drunk.
