NFA: So during the Bush presidency the GOP lost Americans about a million jobs per month.

Some people need to go back to school and learn or re-learn that CONGRESS has to pass jobs bills before the president can. And when one side of Congress don't give a flying f*ck about people because they're obsessed with destroying one guy while screwing millions to do so, then the only real solution is to vote out these d-bags already.

So... long term unemployment remains high.

Some states have extended benefits to the unemployed because humanity and wanting to avoid the downward spiral of a shrinking local economy while other more Republican controlled states have responded to the long term unemployment situation by "reducing the length of assistance to levels not seen since the Social Security Act established the program in 1935." because bootstraps.

Trolly headline aside (Obama will be remembered more for his OBL kill, for Obamacare, for presiding over marriage equality and his SCOTUS appointments and not long term unemployment) the two different responses bring a certain clarity to differentiating between the two party's core principles, practices and world views.

When I think of Obama I am sad that he didn't do more to prevent the GOP from ruining so many lives but I have to give him some credit for not letting them ruin more.

Except that economic experts said 2008 it would take more than a decade to recover from the economic collapse.

Also, the Republicans have done absolutely everything in their power to keep Obama from creating jobs UNLESS IT ELIMINATES TAXES FOR THE WEALTHIEST PEOPLE IN THE NATION.

Let's start with the subby, whose headline has no basis in anything from the article.

When I think of long term joblessness I think of the Republicans and their Tea Baggers, who, when the country was faced with the worst economic disaster since the great depression, decided to obstruct and oppose efforts to address the problem (while lying constantly about having a laser focus on jobs) and then actually shut down the federal government at a cost of $24 billions to the economy in an attempt to subvert the democratic process. The Republicans and their Tea Bagger buddies have not only prolonged the effects of the economic meltdown, they have increased its severity. Now they are looking for ways to make the unemployed American people they have ignored for the last five years suffer even more by cutting food stamps and unemployment benefits.

I must not be like most Americans. When I think of him I get a lot of republican hatemongering stuck with it, most of all people publicly hoping he fails at everything he does, and politicians stating their primary goal of making him a one term president, instead of things like ending our wars, improving our economy, helping our veterans, etc.

And Guantanamo, Afghanistan, etc.

Guantanamo - tried to close it, blocked by congress

Afghanistan - said we'd be out by the end of 2014, still on track, except for a possible residual force if Karzai lets him

And as far as civil liberties go, he's not anything worse than what the Republicans offered

There's no wonder. The GOP would rather see America fail than Obama succeed.

When Obama tries to do something about helping job growth like investing in infrastructure or tax breaks for the working poor it gets rejected by the GOP as more "failed" stimulus.

The GOP, on the other hand, are now reduced to pretending every bill they pass is a jobs bill.

Bob Goodlatte from VA went so far last month as to suggest that his "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion" bill was a jobs bill because...

It very much promotes job creation for all the care and services and so on that need to be provided by a lot of people to raise children."

Conservative logic.

Schaniqwa: whidbey: When most Americans think of President Obama

He did what he could. Short of forcing business to hire via Congressional legislation.

Seems that in his first two years he could have been laser focused on jobs (what he said he was about in January, 2009).
With a turned around economy by November, 2012, he could have retained the House.  This would have given him the time to have a dramatically improved healthcare solution, possibly single payer.  Instead we have a rushed and poorly implemented ACA and a continually weak economy with vast employment or underemployment.

Also, it doesn't help that America let the Right Wing Noise Machine go to 11 without speaking out against it and censuring social conservatives.

Plenty of people spoke out against the RWNM.  There was the OWS movement, Maddow, Schultz, MSNBC, Sharpton, Biden, Clinton, Clinton, Obama, etc.

And yet everything the Republican minority wanted they got. Why do you think that is? Do you really believe enough people spoke out?

No, it's all Obama's fault.

Not all.  But there is the whole buck stops here thing.

I say he did a good job and we didn't support him. We validated the RWNM. I don't see how there's really any debate on this. Obama is not a dictator, he is a facilitator who carries out what the loudest voices are calling for.
Instead we have a rushed and poorly implemented ACA and a continually weak economy with vast employment or underemployment.

It's what Big Business wants.--Low growth, little in the way of regulation.

Propose a few more draconian gun laws and let's see how much Joe Taxpayer ends up having to spend on his newfound "healthcare coverage" and Democrats may need to switch to the Whig party to get some attention.

Ok, let's hear your plan.

I keep coming back to the idea of a modern WPA.  Something that would help the long term unemployed get back into the workforce.  Something that would provide a base of demand that would make the private sector have to compete for labor.  Something that would cut the cost of.welfare programs and long tem UI. Something that would provide a labor pool for National Parks, Department of Education, Infrastructure, digitizing the Library and Archives, cleaning up brownfields and urban blight.  Etc.
