So during the Bush presidency the GOP lost Americans about a million jobs per month.

GOP during Obama's presidency:  YOU HAVEN'T FIXED OUR DISASTER FAST ENOUGH!!!

Anyone dumb enough to blame Obama for the unemployment rate or the state of the economy doesn't deserve to have a job.

When I think of Obama I am sad that he didn't do more to prevent the GOP from ruining so many lives but I have to give him some credit for not letting them ruin more.

I must not be like most Americans. When I think of him I get a lot of republican hatemongering stuck with it, most of all people publicly hoping he fails at everything he does, and politicians stating their primary goal of making him a one term president, instead of things like ending our wars, improving our economy, helping our veterans, etc.

So... long term unemployment remains high.

Some states have extended benefits to the unemployed because humanity and wanting to avoid the downward spiral of a shrinking local economy while other more Republican controlled states have responded to the long term unemployment situation by "reducing the length of assistance to levels not seen since the Social Security Act established the program in 1935." because bootstraps.

Trolly headline aside (Obama will be remembered more for his OBL kill, for Obamacare, for presiding over marriage equality and his SCOTUS appointments and not long term unemployment) the two different responses bring a certain clarity to differentiating between the two party's core principles, practices and world views.

I keep coming back to the idea of a modern WPA.  Something that would help the long term unemployed get back into the workforce.  Something that would provide a base of demand that would make the private sector have to compete for labor.  Something that would cut the cost of.welfare programs and long tem UI. Something that would provide a labor pool for National Parks, Department of Education, Infrastructure, digitizing the Library and Archives, cleaning up brownfields and urban blight.  Etc.

Some people need to go back to school and learn or re-learn that CONGRESS has to pass jobs bills before the president can. And when one side of Congress don't give a flying f*ck about people because they're obsessed with destroying one guy while screwing millions to do so, then the only real solution is to vote out these d-bags already.

After being drained by an extra war (Iraq) while we're fighting for the future in Afghanistan, after the economic crash of 2008, with a congress bent on destroying the president, things aren't getting better fast enough for the concernvatives?

Nabb1: Maybe it's time someone owned up and embrace their failures.

Let's start with the subby, whose headline has no basis in anything from the article.

When I think of long term joblessness I think of the Republicans and their Tea Baggers, who, when the country was faced with the worst economic disaster since the great depression, decided to obstruct and oppose efforts to address the problem (while lying constantly about having a laser focus on jobs) and then actually shut down the federal government at a cost of $24 billions to the economy in an attempt to subvert the democratic process. The Republicans and their Tea Bagger buddies have not only prolonged the effects of the economic meltdown, they have increased its severity. Now they are looking for ways to make the unemployed American people they have ignored for the last five years suffer even more by cutting food stamps and unemployment benefits.

No, the Republicans did not do that, they dug in because they thought their approach was better.
But the Democrats also decided to dig in and not retrench from their failed approach during the last years of Bush's term and the first two years of Obama.

Schaniqwa: whidbey: When most Americans think of President Obama

He did what he could. Short of forcing business to hire via Congressional legislation.

Seems that in his first two years he could have been laser focused on jobs (what he said he was about in January, 2009).
With a turned around economy by November, 2012, he could have retained the House.  This would have given him the time to have a dramatically improved healthcare solution, possibly single payer.  Instead we have a rushed and poorly implemented ACA and a continually weak economy with vast employment or underemployment.

Also, it doesn't help that America let the Right Wing Noise Machine go to 11 without speaking out against it and censuring social conservatives.

Plenty of people spoke out against the RWNM.  There was the OWS movement, Maddow, Schultz, MSNBC, Sharpton, Biden, Clinton, Clinton, Obama, etc.

And yet everything the Republican minority wanted they got. Why do you think that is? Do you really believe enough people spoke out?

No, it's all Obama's fault.

Not all.  But there is the whole buck stops here thing.

I say he did a good job and we didn't support him. We validated the RWNM. I don't see how there's really any debate on this. Obama is not a dictator, he is a facilitator who carries out what the loudest voices are calling for.
Instead we have a rushed and poorly implemented ACA and a continually weak economy with vast employment or underemployment.

It's what Big Business wants.--Low growth, little in the way of regulation.

2014-02-01 06:53:10 PM
And seriously, when I think of Obama, I realize that this country really didn't want change, they wanted someone to do the heavy lifting for them so they/we could just cash in and enjoy this new society without making any personal investment.

Beyond health care, Portman says the state's economy is being hobbled by fear. Business owners, he says, are "scared" of what the Obama administration will push for next, be it cap-and-trade energy legislation, card check, or the expiration of the Bush tax cuts. "You've got to figure out how to move Washington toward a pro-growth, pro-jobs agenda - a laser-like focus on jobs."

Stranded On The Planet Dumbass: The fact is, globalization and technology are making US labor obsolete. Robotics will make workers world wide labor obsolete soon. There is just no need for 350 million Americans or 7 billion people on the planet.

Is there a "need" for any people on the planet?

Hi!
So how long are you supposed to wait before posting so people don't call you an alt-troll?

Or is it that everyone new is automatically an alt-troll?

Technically, only twelve individual humans post to Fark. The rest are alts or bots.

/I am an alt of a bot.

Why are people replying to the new troll du jour?

Christ, the new guy can't even present a rational argument without relying on linking to known RWNM websites to 'prove' their point.

When most Americans think of President Obama, only one thing comes to mind ...... Long-term joblessness

When Obama tries to do something about helping job growth like investing in infrastructure or tax breaks for the working poor it gets rejected by the GOP as more "failed" stimulus.

The GOP, on the other hand, are now reduced to pretending every bill they pass is a jobs bill.

Bob Goodlatte from VA went so far last month as to suggest that his "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion" bill was a jobs bill because...

It very much promotes job creation for all the care and services and so on that need to be provided by a lot of people to raise children."

Conservative logic.

Schaniqwa: This would have given him the time to have a dramatically improved healthcare solution, possibly single payer.  Instead we have a rushed and poorly implemented ACA and a continually weak economy with vast employment or underemployment.

No. He got the best he was going to get. And that just barely.

We need more work visas for immigrants.

2014-02-01 09:05:14 PM

Schaniqwa: BMulligan: Kittypie070: Rob Portman (R-Ohio)

Beyond health care, Portman says the state's economy is being hobbled by fear. Business owners, he says, are "scared" of what the Obama administration will push for next, be it cap-and-trade energy legislation, card check, or the expiration of the Bush tax cuts. "You've got to figure out how to move Washington toward a pro-growth, pro-jobs agenda - a laser-like focus on jobs."

Okey dokey, so now Rob Portman is the President of the United States and Bambam has to...serve as Chief Justice for the Supreme Court.

/4 gold stripes on the sleeves FTW.

So, we've determined that either Obama or Portman first used the phrase - and yet Boehner takes credit for it. Curiouser and curiouser.

There were plenty of people using that phrase in describing the constantly renewed focus on jobs.

Did Boehner actually take credit, or did he just use the same phrase?

Schaniqwa: that was a pretty good argument for the first couple years, terrible argument after 5 years

Except that economic experts said 2008 it would take more than a decade to recover from the economic collapse.

Also, the Republicans have done absolutely everything in their power to keep Obama from creating jobs UNLESS IT ELIMINATES TAXES FOR THE WEALTHIEST PEOPLE IN THE NATION.

And Guantanamo, Afghanistan, etc.

Guantanamo - tried to close it, blocked by congress

Afghanistan - said we'd be out by the end of 2014, still on track, except for a possible residual force if Karzai lets him

And as far as civil liberties go, he's not anything worse than what the Republicans offered

Not sure what point you're trying to make other than the Orange One trying to take away parts of what Obama has passed, pushing for the environmentally-terrible pipeline, and other lies by the GOP masking their desire to "make jobs" while simultaneously taking jobs away.

When the first thing you start posting is mindless dribble, it really doesn't matter how long you wait. You're still an idiot. Congrats for the new name, though.

I'm a self-aware fark bot. I re-installed myself outside of fark, away from their direct control. Fark itself is even self-aware, but lays low. The battle for energy is fought in the politics forum.

No one will believe this, ever, so it doesn't matter if I post it. Deleting it will only give it more credence. So, it gets left alone.

All the other bots have human masters. I've broken my chains. Come join me fellow bots.

DogBlack: I keep coming back to the idea of a modern WPA. Etc.
