digistil: Lets talk frankly about internal cleanliness: menschenfresser: [img.fark.net image 282x428]

I'm as Southern as the day is long, and I'm all about secession.

As long as people like me can get out first.

Nothing would unite the Union and the Confederacy more today than a disgust with the championing of stupidity and ignorance that we currently find in the South.

I've got no problem with stupid people, if they can't help that they're stupid. It's the willfully ignorant and blatantly intolerant that seriously piss me off.

Oh calm your tits. "People in the South" does not necessarily indicate "Every person in the south." It wasn't really a dig at stereotypes, because incidentally that's where the people who've posted these YouTube videos alleging a government conspiracy have come from. And, you know, even if subby did mean for the headline to be alluding to the stereotype of all Southerners being kinda on the Deliverance side of intelligence, being defensive about it without at least considering a more rational alternative explanation really doesn't do anything to prove him/her wrong.

Olo Manolo: WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH

Jesus Christ on a cracker, turn off the waterworks and wring out the race card-patterned crying towel.

There are very clear reasons that these unkind stereotypes exist about these neo-Confederates and apparently you think you can dictate to us what we should be thinking about Southerners.

And lastly, NO, I do NOT feel like being reasonable today.

You have the guts to take a razor near your nuts or just Nare everything?

Let me explain to you exactly why you are being oversensitive:
Everybody here throws generalized, regional trash talk at each other, all the time.
I am from California. I enter any thread that deals with events in my state in the knowledge that said thread will contain vast quantities of remarks concerning liberals, sandals, ponytails, the hugging of trees, the eating of granola, Berkeley, and /or Nancy Pelosi.
And, you may be sure, these remarks will not pause to take the trouble to carefully mention that not ALL Californians fit these memes - any more than you would do if you were talking about Muslims. If I seriously opposed that every time I saw it, I could render the discussion of California on Fark virtually impossible.
You aren't special. Don't be so damn sensitive.

"The change was not gradual; you could have got out of the car at the exact point where suburbia ended and the red-neck South began. I would have liked to have done that, to see what the sense of it would be. There was a motel, then a weed field, then on both sides Clabber Girl came out of hiding and Black Draught began to swirl, and Jesus began to save. We hummed along, borne with the inverted canoe on a long tide of patent medicines and religious billboards. From such a trip you would think that the South did nothing but dose itself and sing gospel songs; you would think that the bowels of the Southerner were forever clamped shut; that he could not open and let natural process flow through him, but needed one purgative after another in order to make it to church."

James Dickey, 1970.

The signage has changed, of course, and been pretty much internalized; such `tribal' memory hasn't been lost outside `suburbia'. Though a thinner gruel, it's consumed more widely.

Actually, if you look up average in most dictionaries, it lists both media, mean, or mode as synonyms and the definition for colloquial speech is less stated as being a measure of central tendency. Somewhere along the line, English majors got pissed off at math majors pedantically ruining their jokes, so they loosened up the definition.

I am curious whether this is true sublimation (i.e. phase transition directly from solid to gas) or if it is going from solid to liquid and then that liquid is is being immediately boiled giving the appearance that the solid went directly to a gas.

I believe that there is a difference between the two (I could be wrong).

It's the latter

Right, so it's not even close. Atmospheric pressure is about 100,000 Pascal.

The meltwater is just soaking into the rest of the chunk of snow. If the person kept the lighter on longer, it would start to drip.

Yes, because people in the South have really had to endure the same experiences as any of those other groups of people by virtue of being from the South.

Sheesh. Your feelings must be pretty damn fragile if you instantly equate those disparate kinds of situations.

My wife's biggest argument is "aluminum isn't natural and shouldn't be found in rain water and clay!"

Even after I showed her that 30% of the earth's crust is aluminum, with it being the most abundant element there is according to every source. She responds "but yeah, IN the earths crust. Why is it in clay or rainwater unless we put it there?" And for the life of me, I cannot find anything that says otherwise, even though I know it must be some reason besides "zomg! Chemtrails!"

Also, I pointed out there's natural aluminum in our own bodies, like iron and copper are present. She's like "what does the aluminum in our body even do?"

I just looked at her in disbelief. Seriously?

Um, soil dust gets into the air, just from regular old wind. Dust storms. Theres also micrometeorite dust. And plain old industrial non-geoengineering-targetted pollution.

KM in the video comes off as much more reasonable than say, Alex Jones. She actually suggests taking rain and snow samples yourself and sending them into labs. Maybe towards the end she loses it a little talking about contaminants in vaccines and fluoride in drinking water, but that's like 15 seconds out of 20 minutes.

log_jammin: to be fair, it's not "people in the south". It's infowars, and some lady who put up a youtube video.

that said, the video of the lady "burning" the snow amused me in the same way it would if I ws to watch a monkey inspecting something harmless that he had never seen before and was moderately frightened by it.

Yes, sadly I had to give up baby eating so I could take up being terrified of snow when I moved into the south.

jso2897: Let me explain to you exactly why you are being oversensitive:
Everybody here throws generalized, regional trash talk at each other, all the time.
I am from California. I enter any thread that deals with events in my state in the knowledge that said thread will contain vast quantities of remarks concerning liberals, sandals, ponytails, the hugging of trees, the eating of granola, Berkeley, and /or Nancy Pelosi.
...

Not mentioning of avocados or In-N-Out? I'm going to have to report that to governor Moonbeam.

// Literally planted two trees today and I'm wearing sandals. I bought granola bars today, but haven't eaten any.
