They should've been watching the little girl on their way to the swim meet.

/watches too much tv.

That has nothing to with marijuana and everything to do with the fact that these two were too stupid to go on living. I don't understand how people like this manage to dress themselves in the morning without complications.

2004-01-29 12:01:40 PM
One thing I always like to tell people (especially the ones opposed to marijuana legalization) is to watch those commercials where people do stupid things on weed, but replace weed with alcohol and see if the outcomes would have been any different.

2004-01-29 12:12:51 PM
exick: Exactly. Or replace it w/ cell phones, being tired, cough syrup, etc.

Death - my anti-drug.

2004-01-29 12:31:49 PM
Not to mention the fact that marijuana doesn't distort your perception in a way that would cause you to not understand that you're holding a gun, etc. This is a case of two kids (legally they're adults, but let's be realistic) doing something stupid. Marijuana happened to be present. Unfortunately for the rabid anti-drug folks, correlation != causation. Fortunately for them, much of America is as dumb as a brick, and will believe whatever you put on TV.

I don't like to toot my own horn, but I think this is an appropriate thread to re-post this entry I did for a PS contest a couple of months ago:

Legalize it!

Darwin wins...fatality.

2004-01-29 01:24:13 PM
Pot's not the issue here. They got into an argument, one had a gun, end of story.

2004-01-29 01:24:26 PM
Darwin.. my anti drug?

2004-01-29 01:24:34 PM

"Duuuuuuude, what the fark just happened ?"

"Aw man, I think I just shot Miller ..."

2004-01-29 01:24:52 PM
so did they get the idea from watching the commercial?

2004-01-29 01:25:17 PM
Nothing in the article blamed the marijuana for the homicide. It just stated that it was present.

2004-01-29 01:25:29 PM
This headline is a bit misleading. What this country really needs is a WAR ON RUSSIAN ROULETTE!

2004-01-29 01:25:39 PM
right db420d cause you know pot doesnt alter your perceptions at all, it's perfectly safe let's all go smoke up and go play with a forklift.

If that guy would have been on ecstasy it would have felt like the best gun shot wound ever.

2004-01-29 01:26:58 PM
Maybe they actually were trying to build a bong outta the gun because all the headshops went under?

2004-01-29 01:27:36 PM
Here in Canada we have lots of weed but many fewer handguns than they have in the USA.

Does that somehow make our pot "safer"?

Can't wait for the Superbowl this year. Last year I learned that pot causes pregnancy. The year before it was all about pot causing gunshots and kids getting run over at the drive thru.

What will it be this year?

How about they follow Pepsi's lead and go all retro with "Pot causes negros and mexicans to go nuts and rape white wimmin"?

mongosmash:

Um, that's not what db420d said. But hey, looking at your profile, you're a telemarketer. That automatically exempts you from understanding phrases (e.g., "I'm not interested", "fark off and get a real job you telemarketing scum", etc)

2004-01-29 01:28:27 PM
So, what you have there in the states is two things.
Legal handguns and a illegal "drug"
One has been known to kill people everyday in many differnt situations on it's own.
One has been known to be correlated to some deaths each week.
Legilize it and criminilize the other. (but then that would make you all like canadains.)

2004-01-29 01:28:29 PM
"Dood, I don't think it's a good idea to play Russian roulette with a clip fed Desert Eagle."

"How else are we gonna entertain us?"

"Dood, you said 'anus'! huh huhhhuhuhuhhuhuhhuhuhheheheheh!"

"I did? entert-anus! Ohh yeah! huhhhuhuhuhhuhuhhhehehehhuuhh! Okay you first."

-- BANG! --

This is proof those anti drug commercials are influencing our youth! These kids never would have had the idea to get stoned and shoot each other if they hadn't seen it on TV.

2004-01-29 01:28:49 PM
I think I will sit back and burn one and consider what has happend here.

2004-01-29 01:29:33 PM
Actually I am against a "War on Russian Roulette" although my sarcasm detector went off about that. I am against anything that interferes with Darwin's Natural Law. That means that if by any reason they take themselves out of the gene pool then it is natural selection and nothing to see, move along.

If marijuana was legalized, would doctors and pilots be allowed to toke up before a shift? If not, would any employees be allowed to? If not, how long before a shift can they have a toke and be allowed to work? Who will set the guidelines if any at all? Is there a way to measure being stoned like there is with being drunk?

2004-01-29 01:29:43 PM
Joecameltoe, hehe, thanks for reminding me of narc.

2004-01-29 01:30:29 PM
Russian Roulette and accidental shootings happen all the time. (particularly to stupid people). I think the dominant factor here was gross stupidity.

But here comes the war on drug users (er, I mean war on drugs). They will howl "see pot made them do it." it must have been "reefer madness". I bet they got the pot from scary dark skinned people to!

I once smoked a joint. In the madness that followed I drove stoned, burned down 3 different convents, raped 18 old women at the local old folks home, and eventually was stopped by the growing pile of dead bodies under my car.

New laws are clearly required. If the drugs laws were stiffer I might not be considering doing it all again. But I mean come on, only a meesly 7-10 years in jail. Easy time. I could do it standing on my head. Hell, I hear you can get pot IN jail these days anyway. Free room and board PLUS pot!!!

Think I'll smoke me a fattie and go out for another cruise. . .

Prufrock2, when you regulate it you make rules and regulations like you do for Alcohol right now.

2004-01-29 01:31:09 PM
exick:

I agree with you, sort of. The outcome of switching weed with alcohol in those commercials is obvious and irrelevant. The problem is that our society blames the outcome on the weed in the one situation, but they blame the asshat who gets drunk when she's supposed to be supervising a toddler in the other. The mindset we've applied to illegal drugs, if applied to alcohol, would clearly lead us to prosecuting beer bottlers, brewers, and importers for drunk driving fatalities. Any product or service can be misused. People need to take responsibility for their own decisions.

And no, I'm not a pot-smoking hippie. I prefer legal vices. :)

2004-01-29 01:31:20 PM
I once had an incident with a gun, but was too stoned to figure out how to use it. Marijuana saved my life, and perhaps someone elses.

2004-01-29 01:33:54 PM
Ah yes, it was all the evil weed's fault. Lets not blame stupidity. Its not that the article was written in any particular way that blames, but people will make the conclusions anyway. If these kids did this drunk or even dead sober, noone would be pointing fingers. But for some reason, pot is so demonised that people will rally for tougher laws(as if they are not tough enough in the US as it is) using incidents like this as a the result of smoking pot.

2004-01-29 01:34:22 PM
AuralArgument,

Yeah, I implied that with my last question. Again, is there a quick and easy way to measure how stoned someone is like there is with alcohol?

You really should join with me in my support for the War on Russian Roulette. Ponder the decline in drug use since the inception of the War on Drugs. See what I mean?

Here is your brain. Here is your brain as a Russian Omlette. Any questions?

2004-01-29 01:35:46 PM
Remember kids, smoking pot doesn't make you stupid.

2004-01-29 01:35:51 PM
prufrock2 asked

[[[If marijuana was legalized, would doctors and pilots be allowed to toke up before a shift? If not, would any employees be allowed to? If not, how long before a shift can they have a toke and be allowed to work? Who will set the guidelines if any at all? Is there a way to measure being stoned like there is with being drunk? ]]]

They would not be allowed to smoke and do their jobs any more than they are allowed to drink and do them now.

This is a weak argument. Of COURSE if weed was legal you would not be allowed to drive/operate/fly/etc. stoned. It would be just like alcohol. (except that pot doesn't make people beligerent, or convinve them that they are indy drivers)

I am sure there could be tests for being stoned. A simple blood test for THC would probably do it. But the truth is, the professions you mentioned (pilots, doctors) are not routinely tested. They are only tested after someone spots a problem. (if then)

Besides, people who drive stoned usually drive like 10 mph. They may be annoying, but they are as dangerous as drunk drivers!

2004-01-29 01:36:03 PM
Marijuana, or "the gun puller" as it is sometimes called, has claimed the lives of countless people. It must be stopped. Send it all to me - it's no match.

2004-01-29 01:36:28 PM
Midnightmuse, let's not forget that most people don't know how to properly use a gun, yet still own one. (at least all the american's I know own a gun)

And me being a Canadain it was'nt until I was 22 when I first saw a handgun (real) in person.

2004-01-29 01:36:43 PM
Man, and I thought pot just supported terrorism.

Pot. Is there anything it can't do?

Let's not forget to mention that the two kids had brown hair.

Having Brown Hair: It's more dangerous than we thought.

Nobody ever died from getting high... Oh, wait. I don't give a shiat if you smoke a joint every now and then but if you do something this stupid don't say you weren't warned.
