Chip & Dale are supposed to be a nuisance to Donald Duck and they don't wear clothes. I never accepted that TV show as canon.

A good gauge on whether a furry should be avoided is if the amount of Gadget porn on their hard drive is greater than zero.

Seriously. I never got the whole appeal of Rule 34 on any cartoon I grew up with. It's just...creepy.

This series was greenlit a few years into the Eisner era, and hit The Disney Channel on the heels of the success of The Rescuers Down Under.  IMHO, Katzenberg & company actually wanted to make a Rescuers TV series -- but stopped just short of using Bernard and Miss Bianca for the leads ... opting for Chip & Dale, instead.

And I don't think "canon" ever entered into any of the Disney Afternoon cartoon shows.  They had Rudyard Kipling characters flying planes and battling air-pirates, FFS.

Hopefully it will be set in New York or LA and actually revolve around a teenage boy finding the confidence to ask a girl out and or gain the approval of his absent but at heart well meaning father.

It is only an opinion ... and I'd carefully couched it as such.

BTW, production lead times on animated features exceed those of TV cartoons.  These would have been in-development at the same time, regardless of the fact that the TV show was released first.

Eisner and Katzenberg were all about 'synergy' and exploiting every avenue of $$$-making.  But it wasn't until the 1990's-proper that the "cheapquel-madness" began.

It shouldn't strain credulity that C&D:RR at the very least might've started-out with the pitch: "we'd like a TV cartoon that is like The Rescuers ... but not."

The BS was your opening sentence ("This series was greenlit a few years into the Eisner era, and hit The Disney Channel on the heels of the success of The Rescuers Down Under"), which, as written, was presented as fact and cannot possibly be true, for the reasons I cited before.

You are correct in regards to Eisner, synergy, and lead time. And of course it's possible that the Rescuers was brought up as an abstract importation. But there is quite a bit of information out there on the creation of RR, and none of it cites either Rescuers movie as a direct inspiration. As carefully couched as your opinion was, it's not supported by the facts.

No.  I'm talking about the Eisner/Katzenberg-greenlit animated feature The Rescuers Down Under, and Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers being in development simultaneously -- and noting that they ***MIGHT'VE*** ... ***COULD'VE*** ... just ***POSSIBLY*** BOTH started out as intended follow-ups to the 1977 Disney movie.

Given what happened later on in the Eisner era of DTV "cheapquels" and spin-off TV series for every-other feature, I honestly don't see what makes that theory so outlandishly unbelievable.

There has been some question on the  origin of the  Applecore .. Baltimore gag. Veteran Disney animator  Bill Justice in an interview in the early 1990's claimed that this  memorable bit of business was something that he and the other gagmen had invented specifically for  Donald Applecore.

In fact, the gag was used in  Melody Time (1948) during the  Johnny Appleseed sequence. It is incorporated into the song the pioneers are singing during the  Apple Jubilee. This at least proves that the whole thing didn't originate with the Donald short.

Huh, I always thought it was a cruel schoolyard prank from a bygone era. Like kids in the 50s hucked apple cores at each other. What I never understood is why it splatters on the victims face. What kind of mushy-ass apples were they eating?
