Yeah. I moved in with a (now-former) friend of 25 years once. She smacked my cat (hard) for chewing on her phone cord. Never spoke to her again. People who are mean to animals are bad people.

Between a cat and a human you choose the cat? Race traitor.

Proudly so. If you're mean to an animal, I don't want to know you.

Sounds like a paradise for cats.

It's a grey tabby.  Those farkers have powers, man.  They know things!!!  If you're a cat and a grey tabby shows up, you just walk away...

I seriously think there ought to be a mechanism installed in all adult humans allowing for instant vapourisation if you are cruel to a child, an animal, or a person weaker or more vulnerable than you.

Seconded.

Logical problem: the installers would be the first to be vaporised.

Neondistraction: Thudfark: Let me get this straight. They can't figure out how a cat from a fishing village got 2000 miles across the sea to another coastal town? Good thing the vet isn't a cop.

Actually the cat was found in a fishing village, not from one.

/ I also doubt that fishing boats travel that far away from their home port

They could in a catamaran

OF COURSE cats can teleport.  Anyone who owns a cat knows this.

/Have 2 of my own--Rigby, the main cat and Alice, the small emergency back-up cat
//Rigby somehow ended up in the dishwasher--have no idea how he got there, as 2 seconds ago he was in the living room

Two of our cats are still registered in London, England. We now live in Mississippi. If they run out the door, I can only imagine the confusion ("But how did they get here from London, all the way to Mississippi"). It's so obviously an expat who moved back from Fuertaventura who had his/her cat chipped back in Spain.

/reminds me to get the location on their chips changed

angrycrank: My friends just got their cat back. He got freaked out and ran away during a summer storm in July and was found eating seeds under a bird feeder and turned in (and chip scanned) at a shelter 75km north of them last week. When they brought him home, he and his buddy the dog started playing like no time had passed at all. We figure the cat hopped a train or something.

Not quite what my cat does with dropped seeds near bird feeders. They tend to attract birds, and from personal observation, there always seems to be one or two dumb enough to land in front of a waiting and exposed cat. For some reason, she found them tastier than eating the seeds.

Sure, commercial fishing boats travel that far. They sail to the waters they want to fish, stay there for a few weeks, come back to the home port. They don't always fish right off the coast they're from. Shipping is plausible too. And the odds the cat was from a port are pretty good- it was from a small tropical island. So cat lives on island, cat winds up in distant port fishing town. Not hard to figure that one out- cat decides to steal some fish as boat is leaving port, cat winds up in scotland. Maybe it was a yacht. But a boat of some variety seems like a pretty good bet.

Anyway, young cats wander a little further than they should. As long as they don't wind up on boats to Scotland, they usually learn and settle in to a reasonably sized territory.

You generally know when they are in the box by the scratching sound, flying sand and the green cloud of stink coming out.

I used to like cats. I used to LIVE with cats.
That changed when the allergies went from mild and manageable to... not.

The smell of male cat 'spray' is distinct.
It will affect my brain before I'm consciously aware of the odor, giving me a near-irresistible desire to
scream, clean, flee, destroy all the things, and murder all humans. And also evict any cats in the area.

Indeed, I would be pleased if my neighbors did not keep the outdoor cats which have now annexed my porch
and carport as part of their territory.  The Dead Songbird of the Month Club is one that I would gladly quit.

So sorry we can't be friends.

Obviously someone with allergies to cats shouldn't have them, and I don't allow mine to roam free, unless they escape, and they have, but nobody has been stupid enough to do something to them.

It's not like we couldn't be friends, unless you're one of those people that instead of humanely trapping them and turning the animal over to a reputable animal shelter, you dump them far away from their owners, then we can't be friends. And if you hurt a cat, again, can't be friends.

I love my cats.  I will do unspeakably horrible things to someone I catch mistreating my cats (or my neighbors cat, or a random stray).

But where I live, we keep them indoors because the natural predators in the area would find them to be yummy.  As a side result of that, no one is ever going to find your corpse.

No, needless cruelty is not my bag.  I wouldn't hurt the neighbors' pets, be they cat, dog, bird, bunny or whatever. (Which, incidentally, makes me one better than that tom who left a huge decapitated domestic rabbit on my lawn - not that animals are morally responsible.)

And having lived in rural areas, I would never use 'the woods' as a dumping ground for unwanted creatures (or anything!). That's
unconscionable. I've known dairy farmers who treated their barn cat herds with benign neglect, not because they couldn't afford sterilize a few cats and maintain their health, but because the inflow of unfixed strays from the ex-burbs was so constant, there would be a litter of diseased kittens on their property every year anyway. There was literally no getting ahead of it. Jackass trap-and-releasers: Actions have cascading consequences, even if you don't see them! But living next to such has left me insufficiently sentimental for several of my cat-loving urban friends. I have to remember not to shrug at the possible tragedy of taking a precious semi-feral to the pound. That's what the facility is there for, and they're animals, not people. Sorry.
