Hell, I was just going to point out that in 2005, both Denver and Seattle were really good teams that went 13-3 (each lost to Pittsburgh - Denver in the AFCCG and Seattle in the SB), so that prediction wouldn't have even been especially bold that year.

BuzzFeed article.  Zombie Simpsons.  Misunderstanding of what a prediction actually entails.  This link is a trifecta of shiat.

Two teams, one from the AFC and one from the NFC, will meet on a field sometime early in the new year and play a game football each against the other, but only one will win.

Nostradamus does Football predictions.

I still love the Simpsons episode where Moe's tavern has a SB chat.
Something about Atlanta Falcons and Clintons wife, Hilary Clinton.

Heh.

The funny part is that Denver went on to their back-to-back Super Bowl wins a season or two after that episode aired.

Yep, they did that thing with the glasses to make it current because they didn't know who would be playing in the game...and who would be president at that time due to the impeachment trials going on during that time.

No, Denver won SB XXXII and XXXIII in 98-99

I was living in Cleveland in 1995, when the Mariners faced the Indians in the ALCS. Before the first game in the series, they showed a clip from an old episode of "Family Ties." The little sister was on her way out the door, and Alex asked her where she was going. "A baseball game," she said. "A double-header between the Indians and the Mariners." Alex rolled his eyes and said, "Talk about a clash of the titans."

There's no point to my story. I just thought it was amusing.

I remember a few years ago when someone posted a clip from "Coming to America" after a Giants/Packers game that was decided by a field goal, which is exactly how the game Eddie Murphey's character saw ended.

When you reference a real sport in TV/film, eventually some of those references will turn out to more or less how they were described in fiction.

No, I was referring to the episode where Hank Scorpio gave the Broncos to Homer....and after checking IMDB, that episode aired during the Fall of 1996.

Not all that surprising. I had seen earlier in the day the Vermont and Mississippi gave an A and not Oklahoma. That confused the hell out of me.

Take 1000 arbitrary binary decisions. Assign a Super Bowl outcome to each possible decision. Eliminate all decisions which don't line up the actual results (~50%). Repeat next year with the decisions which succeeded. Repeat until you isolate a perfect predictor.

I think the only reason he probably doesn't get an A country-wide is his handling of the Seattle/Thunder situation.

Not from me - I remember how he handled Suns/Spurs in '07.

/okay, guys, first we'll give you the crooked ref who's been fixing games. You'll lose that.
//then I'll suspend both of your PFs for "leaving the bench area during an altercation" despite the lack of a fight and that one of them was returning toward the bench even before any "altercation" started
///just to cap it off, I'll let notorious home-team ref and noted "help the league" ref Dick Bavetta run Game 6 in San Antonio

The last graph of the story should not go without notice. It seems to indicate someone got their hands on a sports almanac from the future. That could be calamitous.

The Suns got farked, but was there any reason Stern would want the Spurs to win?

Yeah, maybe that Kings/Lakers series is a better example.

Because he likes Duncan and Peter Holt personally. Just like he ass-rammed Seattle because Bennett is a good personal friend.

That's at the end of the article actually and it was neat they fit it in. Here's hoping. What are the Vegas odds I wonder? Gonna have to look it up and if anyone had offered a special prop bet like a year or more ago.

Actually it was/will be the Cubs that win over "Miami".  Watch out for those hologram sharks--they're scary, even though they still look fake.  :)

Does no one remember they did accurately predict to Redskins would beat the Bills in the Super Bowl way back in 1991? That was written months before the Super Bowl.

Most of the people who write for BuzzFeed weren't alive when that episode happened.

I'm a huge Redskins fan and I distinctly remember that episode.  I'm pretty sure they wrote the episode and then voiced-over the team names in later on.  Whenever anyone mentions either team, they are always facing away from the camera or creatively covering their mouths.  In fact I'm pretty sure they redubbed the episide with Dallas and Buffalo the following year and used it again.  Whenever I've seen it in syndication they've always used the 'Dallas' vs 'Buffalo' version.

Bavetta's less hateable if you just consider him what he is: The Mariano Rivera of basketball referees. That dude always comes through with his orders.

All of this. On the DVD commentaries they say that they dubbed it in last-minute, and replayed it in the following season or two.
