I've heard intolerant jackasses say "the only good Muslim is a dead Muslim."

Apparently even that's too much for these pants-shiatting racist jerkoffs to deal with.

2014-01-31 02:18:21 PM
You'd think a field of dead muslins would make the ignorant slack jawed twits happy.

Can't fix stupid.

You'd think folks in Tennessee wouldn't have an issue with members of a middle eastern religion rising from the dead.

...."within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mahometan, the Hindoo, and Infidel of every denomination".

Many conservatives really don't seem to like how religious freedom in the United States also applies to people whose religions are different from their own.

You cray cray.

The 1st Amendment only applies to Christians.

Hell, when I lived in Nashville for a year back in 1995, they used zoning laws to block a Mormon temple. I bet many of those inbreeds were not happy when Romney got the nomination.

/It was such a gorgeous city, loved the scenery.
//Only bad thing about Tennessee was the Tennesseans

To be fair, most of them probably don't know what a "Mahometan" refers to anymore.

Jewish cemeteries have similar requirements, except facing Jerusalem rather than Mecca. In fact many Jewish communities prioritize the construction of cemeteries over synagogues. Doesn't seem to have caused a problem in TN so far. I wonder why.

When 9/11 happened the thing that conservatives repeated and keep on repeating over and over was that peaceful Muslims did not condemn the attacks (even though there are hundreds of examples of peaceful Muslims condemning the attacks, but facts are hard).

We need to consider "politician" a group, and expect all congressman, regardless of political affiliation to distance themselves from these amateurs who don't understand what freedom of religion actually means.

Until then, their silence makes them all guilty.

what_now: Why is Michael Chiklis being such a dick?

He's not even being considered for the new Fantastic Four movie?

Hypocrisy about religious freedom? From a REPUBLICAN? Well, I never!

2014-01-31 03:35:52 PM
Um, maybe its me but....that article was unclear on just why this republican in question is pissed off about a mosque having its own burial ground. If its up to state code, why does it matter if Muslims are buried on ground consecrated by priests of their own faith?

I understand that there will be a rather in your face pagan presence at a local street fair in my home town this summer. Should be interesting to see how the locals react to us this year.

Well, no. I mean yes I got that impression that was the real reason for this republican asshats objections but I'm really really hoping I'm wrong about this.

The mosque at the center of the controversy first gained widespread attention when residents attempted to block its construction, going so far as to set the site on fire. The mosque only managed to complete construction and open after a federal judge ordered residents to stand aside. The Murfreesburo site was just one of several Islamic centers in Tennessee subjected to arson and vandalism over the past five years.

Go fark yourselves, you ignorant farks.

Look, it's very simple, people.  If the cemetary isn't properly built then there's the potential for the Islam to leech into the groundwater.

"Unfortunately the Tennessee Religious Freedom Act, passed by the TN General Assembly, may have played a key role in allowing this cemetery to be approved," the two-term representative wrote.

Somehow I get the feeling the law does exactly opposite of what it's name implies....

Eww! Look at it, it's making all the other tombs all...muslin-y!

Holy farking Christ, you hate them so much you're afraid of them BURYING THEIR DEAD?

I hope Desjarlais and every single one of these GOP shiatcocks are haunted by the ghosts of every person who died because of their nonsense, be it wars or economic deprivation, and then kill themselves. A mass suicide of teabaggers would make me the happiest I've been in a long ass time.

2014-01-31 03:50:56 PM
It seems that the issue is what kind of impact, if any, there is in burying the dead without caskets, vaults or embalming fluids along a potentially at-risk flood area. Funny that ThinkProgress fails to mention that.

/by funny I mean absolutely predictable.

2014-01-31 03:51:13 PM
So how are Tennessee Republicans any different from any other Republicans? Other than being an additional generation or two inbred, that is.

Yeah, I'm not sure I understand what that law does, and how DesJarlais ...um, "assumes"* it means Muslims get to build a cemetery in TN.

// I mean, I'd have thought "freedom of religion" meant that as long as they can buy a spot and they're not doing, e.g., what the gays do to the soil, they were fine
// but...Tennessee

*since "thinks" is too strong a word
