I laughed at that way more than I should have.

I would have put Prince at the #1 spot.

I think it's a tossup between Prince and U2. They are both pretty good.

Hey guys I'm going to the Super Bowl!

No Janet Jackson?  I had forgotten about most of that list.   JJ was unforgettable.

I watched that with my daughter.  We did a simultaneous "WTF was that?".

Every year it's simply awful, and each year somehow they manage to make it even more awful and more grotesque than the year before.

Maybe when Gene Simmons turns 80 it will be time to bring him back again.  That would be horrid.

There are no good halftime shows.  There never were and there never will be.  Even the Stones sucked.

I dunno...Up With People rocked the house in XVI.

Occasionally, the halftime show is good. I have to agree that the Prince one was one of them. It doesn't matter who's playing though, I've started watching them for the technical aspects... Holy God, when they can set up this ridiculously elaborate stage, herd 4-5,000 people onto the field, let the musician play for 12 minutes, and still get halftime over in time, that's farking amazing. And seeing some of the stuff they're doing with the LED panel stage, it just blows me away. I don't particularly care how good the musical act is most of the time, but I love how they pull the whole thing off.

I put Prince at #1, but for a reason not within his control.  The forces that be made the sky open up right when he started "Purple Rain".  It was freakin' beautiful.

I normally am bored with halftime shows - bands, musical performance, touching tributes, etc.  Especially at the Superbowl.  They're overwrought, expensive, slow, and on television they have basically zero entertainment value for me, even if I like the artist.

I couldn't stop smiling during his entire performance.  It was epic.

Prince, because that boy can ball, and make pancakes....etc..

But you have to give props to the Chocolate Sagger That Nearly Destroyed the World.

Damn shame she was so wheels off. Still cry every time I see that one.

I still watch the U2 concert, not so much anyone else.

2014-01-31 02:27:44 PM
Prince was one of two good things for a Bears fan in that Super Bowl (the other being Hester's TD return).  I have some friends who went and said it was miserable sitting there in the rain, but that Prince was great.

[Diana Ross's] voice was always more wispy than powerful (Gladys Knight does a viscous parody)

Yeah, Miss Ross always seemed a bit sticky to me.

Prince #1.  U2 just gets a pass in these lists because it played at the 9/11 Bowl.

The fact that they "played" should not be understated; as opposed to lip-synching to a pre-recorded soundtrack.

I wish football halftime would just be a venue for marching bands. Point a static camera at the field and let everyone take a bathroom break or something.

yakmans_dad: I wish football halftime would just be a venue for marching bands. Point a static camera at the field and let everyone take a bathroom break or something.

This. Super bowl should be about football and not some shiatty pop band.

Worst show I ever saw was either Blues Brothers at SB 31 or Rolling Stones. Both ones sucked so much it cannot be overstated

Beerguy: I would have put Prince at the #1 spot.

There have been several watchable halftime shows. There have been a few good ones.

Prince, however, tore it the fark up. IMHO it would take a lot for anyone to top his performance.

/Part of the greatness of his show was his 5 feet of awesomeness contrasted to the ridiculously large players in the game.

Agreed (although I like Nirvana). Stones are just old and pathetic now, too, which doesn't help their image.

Holy shiat ... I had not seen that since 91 and I didn't know I had a "trigger" thing... ~shivers~

And I'll continue to wait for Weird Al.

Are you listening, NFL?

Please ignore that post.

The reaction had nothing to do with the person I replied to, or with the quality of the amazing performance.

100% this. Best Super Bowl show of all time.

The correct answer is Super bowl XXXV - AEROSMITH!

WAIT A GODDAMN MINUTE!

That wasn't special effects? That was the most... incredible... just poetic, like... and it was JUST RAIN?!

2014-01-31 05:27:57 PM
Yeah it was raining on and off during the game, but it started heavy right at the start of purple rain. It was as close to a spiritual moment that you can have during a halftime show. Effing beautiful.

2014-01-31 05:37:58 PM
Beerguy: U2 and their "give Jesse Helms and other world facists a blowjob" lead singer are the Mmost overrated rock band of all time. Well, them and Nirvana.

FTFY.

The crowd I watch with doesn't pay attention to the halftime show, as soon as it's halftime, it's time to go pee, get a fresh beer, more food, get some fresh air etc. As much as I love them in their glory days, I turned the sound off for The Who after about a minute and nobody cared. At least that sorry performance stopped the run of OMG! Janet's Boobie OMG!! long-past it classic rock bands appearing.

SAME

Maybe I'm a crazypants fangirl, who knows, but I was glued to his show & the rain at just the right time was amazing and he didn't even flinch. It's like he knew that would happen. It's like he demanded that it would happen.

Yeah. He was above humanity at that moment and gave us mortals a sliver of hope that there was life beyond. He was in control of everything.

No shiat the spotlights creating the appearance of actual purple rain during "Purple Rain" and 80K joining in on the "whoa-oh-oh" part was the greatest halftime moment ever, lol. Pure magic.
