You would be too, if you had no reason to live.

So, they performed an experiment in which they took people and lowered their "virtual perspective" by 25 cm. These weren't actually short people, they just made them feel that way for the experiment. Isn't it possible that their reaction was due to the sudden change in their perspective and that a person who had been short their whole life wouldn't have been affected?

Short women tend to have greater inferiority complexes by going after tall guys.

They're just trying to make sure their kids are normal heights.  And it's more fun than eating your spinach, I'm told.

That is some awful science reporting right there. This had absolutely NOTHING to do with short people.

Had an acquaintance of mine who had napoleon syndrome something fierce.  Did steroids, changed his name to something that sounded like a gay porn star, picked fights all the time, flirted with any woman he met.  Rather insufferable.

That said, personally, I'm very attracted to short men so...

Umm not attracted to my steroid riddled, insecure colleague though.  *Other* short men.  Particularly those with some confidence.

Of course Napoleon Complex is kind of amusing given that Napoleon was average height for his time (5'6 or 5'7 I think), and particularly given that, for example Welligton was only 5'5, and Nelson was about the same (5'4-5'6 probably).

The thing to be more concerned about is your pay and promotion prospects: evidence suggests that every inch you are taller or short than someone else makes your pay on average ~2% higher/lower:

2014-01-31 10:01:30 AM
meh.. I'm fairly tall, but I sometimes wonder about what if I'd be taller... then I see those that are taller, and how hard to get decent clothes (which I have anyways, but not to that level), and several other things that makes me fine to be the height I am.

One of my daughter who considers herself short (though she's taller than many of her relatives), has some minor issues about it, but then, she also has a few advantages by being short...

So it's relative to more than just a simple thing....

And as far as height being a factor about someone being a jerk.. nah, that's not the real reason.

As a tall guy myself (6'4), I prefer tall women (5'10+). You can kiss them while standing without breaking anyone's neck, and I don't feel like I'm taking a child on a walk.

For the FA experiment I'd default to Iggy Pop's `Five Foot One'

At 6'4" I could deal with being an inch or two shorter. I am forever banging my head on shiat. On a side not I must say SMS or Short Man Syndrome is a very real thing. And the problem gets worse if the short person is also ugly.

I'm 5'2. I wish I was taller..crowded bars suck. Trying to get people's attention to let you through is awkward for everyone. Standing shows suck if I can't be somewhere near the front, because all I can see is the back of people's shoulders.  I imagine things are clearer, less claustrophobic for taller folks.

Short people always get upset over the smallest of things.  Like when I point out the only difference between short people and normal people is that short people are just less of a person.

5'3" male here

Other negatives
- In mosh pits, your head is elbow-height (maybe a 90's era issue only)
- Hard to see above cars so parking lots are that much hard to scan
- Finding jeans with less than a 30" inseam

Positives
- Kids clothes can be cheaper
- Leg room typically not a problem
- additional 10-15 lbs of muscle looks a lot more impressive on a short guy

I will say that as a teenager when every other guy shot a full head taller than me, yeah, I would say I was more paranoid and fearful.   But eventually you grow out of that crap and realize that your overall heath and well-being really has nothing to do with whether you can dunk or fix a lightbulb without a step-stool.   These days what really counts are money, social skills, brains, and hardiness (e.g. no genetic predisposition to illnesses), in that order.

Yes but as a woman, it is easier for you to be short in society compared to men.  At 5'7", I notice I am usually treated differently compared to taller people.  I notice it in other people as well.

I totally get that it's much harder for men. Just saying I've certainly had my share of difficulties because of it.

Yeah, as  5'6" guy I'm calling BS on this one. I've had numerous friends and coworkers through the years that were well under 6 feet and not one of them exhibited any of these traits until someone busted on them about their height and, for them and myself, it had to be repeated pestering before someone lost their cool about it. What I have experienced is that when a guy who's under 6 feet doesn't assume a subordinate posture towards a guy who is obviously much taller, the tall guy will inevitably bring up the height issue.

THIS 100%,

Short Man Syndrome is the short persons version of being uppity or a biatch. Tall people hate it when you stand up for yourself. Both Hitler and Napoleon were both 5'7", well within average height at their time. Jon Stewart is 5'7" and how many farkers want to elect him?

Here is a fact for you, Ghandi was somewhere between 4'11 and 5'1... show me his "short man syndrome".

2014-02-01 04:03:52 AM
A tall person can be the same way, yet no one accuses a tall paranoid bully that he has a Napoleon complex.

Basically, people do have it out for shorter men because, well, frankly, that's how people are, it's survival of the fittest.  Most women want a man who can protect them and they simply cannot believe on an instinctual level that a shorty can get the job done in one way or another.  It's a fact of life, and sure there are exceptions, but if you're a short guy, you're most likely not going to be able to get a female that is your height or taller.

That is rather funny, I have to say.   I do consider myself short as compared to most guys, but hey, guess what kind of guy generally lives longer?  The tall fall quicker.

It's cool that you don't let them bother you. It never bothers me until some jackass brings it up to gain some advantage, I mean, it's not I'm getting sand kicked in my face, and I doubt that happens to you.

I want to clarify, no I'm not intimidated by taller guys at all. Sometimes I think ought to be, but I'm not.  I do notice that if I were a few inches taller, women would be easier to talk to and some guys would be less apt to start shiat, though(verbal).    So while that makes me weary, I'm almost never intimidated purely by height.
