Yep, if there is a direct 1 to 1 word translation, the point is kind of lost.

I do have to say that Russian drinking culture can be a danger to expats too.

You need to watch out for polonium poisoning.  Must be in the water or something.  Seems to primarily affect dissenters and political rivals.
