Oh look, it's this story again.

2014-01-30 04:23:35 PM
But what about CNN?

2014-01-30 04:24:12 PM
I check the Fox mobile site every morning so I know what the outrage du jour will be at work.

2014-01-30 04:24:49 PM
You're jealous because Sarah's pretty.

2014-01-30 04:24:56 PM
Unlike MSNBC, however, Fox is the only one in the survey to score below "No News" as one's news outlet.

2014-01-30 04:25:05 PM
I was at the gym this morning. They have a wall of flatscreens, all tuned to some 24/7 news channel.

I thought to myself: how did this happen? Whatever happened to just putting on headphones and working out?

2014-01-30 04:25:22 PM
Fox News might make me less informed, but the important thing is that it makes me more infromed.

2014-01-30 04:26:01 PM
Correlation does not equal causation, and this isn't a before/after thing where people who watched no TV news scoring lower after watching FNC. They were mostly likely below the non-watchers to begin with.

Don't ever, ever let a journalist interpret statistics for you.

Super Chronic: Fox News might make me less informed, but the important thing is that it makes me more infromed.

Makes you more fairly and balancedly informed.

according to the study, MSNBC viewers are more informed than those who watch no news.  Unlike Fox viewers.

Don't lump them together, subtroll.

MFAWG: I check the Fox mobile site every morning so I know what the outrage du jour will be at work.

I only have to check the Fark politics tab in the AM to see what the left-wingers will be squawking about.

2014-01-30 04:27:38 PM
Should be self evident if you have ever had to talk to someone that does.

2014-01-30 04:27:46 PM
Honestly I think subby's headline made me a little dumber for reading it. Kind of awkward.

Plenty of people still do.

2014-01-30 04:28:08 PM

epyonyx: But what about CNN?

CNN viewers refused to fill out the survey and instead just linked to some random twitter feeds.

2014-01-30 04:28:11 PM
Or maybe FOX News viewers understand that your ability to answer pertinent questions about current world events is in no way a measure of how informed you are?

2014-01-30 04:28:33 PM
MSNBC is equal to CNN, and way ahead of Fox.

Meh. You've done much better. Should have changed that to "infromed"

Only for domestic issues. Both scored lower than "no news" on international issues.

And this is a country where most people can't find the place they're at war with on a map.

/Echo chambers don't provide a lot of information.
//Nor do they attract informed people.

2014-01-30 04:31:04 PM
You're all just afraid of a strong woman!

2014-01-30 04:31:09 PM
I feel like the MSNBC one would be higher if they just ditched Chris Matthews.

2014-01-30 04:32:08 PM
The survey takers asked 5 questions.

And you can claim bragging rights if your viewers get almost 2 right?

Unless they were surveying this guy:

There shouldn't be a winner.

You make a fair point. There was a lot of talk ~5 years ago about how Fox News viewers, by a wide margin, were more likely than the general public to believe WMDs had been found in Iraq, which I always took as simply proving Fox News viewers were more inclined to believe that sort of thing in the first place, which hardly could have been in doubt (as opposed to the received wisdom which was that Fox News was leading its viewers to believe it).

Still, on this survey, like the Iraq survey, all I can say is that it means something bad about either Fox News or its viewers, or, most likely, both.

If I may play devil's advocate, doesn't Fox have the highest ratings out of all of those [except "No News" obviously]?

I believe one of the basic axioms of humanity we can all agree on is that the average person is farking stupid. Given that, it stands to reason that the larger the group, the more stupid people there are.

QED, libulardos. Math I do to make myself feel better!

It's performance is still abysmal. The fact that it does better than Fox isn't because it's more informative - it's because slightly smarter people watch it to begin with.

2014-01-30 04:33:49 PM
I think the more important part is how The Daily Show has more informed viewers.

2014-01-30 04:34:08 PM
I'd be interested in seeing how many of those surveyed only watched news from one source period. separated by network of course. I think Fox would probably reign supreme in loyalty.

2014-01-30 04:34:25 PM
So with Fox less than no news on both charts mean their news is less than zero?  And, come on MSNBC, you're not trying!

2014-01-30 04:34:34 PM
Also, this study only counts people who watch ONLY ONE NEWS SOURCE. Those are likely the dumber ones.

I bet there are plenty of people who watch Rachel Maddow after, say The News Hour.  This doesn't count them.

Probably many less people watch Hannity after The News Hour.

In other words, FOX viewers tend toward being single-source news viewers, while other outlets probably have more of a mix.  I have no stats to back this up other than personal experience.

It must suck to live like that, seeing conspiracy and boogeymen everywhere.

Are the trolls still putting 0 instead of O for Obama? Classy.

The presentation is done incorrectly.  We'd probably need to know the questions, whether or not the answer to the question was reported on their station, whether or not the viewer was watching at the time it was reported, and the overall difficulty of the question.

and Scarborough. That 3 hour block in the morning skews the statisticals.

also lets remember, the only ones counted in this survey are people who only watch one source. that in itself is skewing the statisticals towards myopic results.

NPR obviously has a higher per-pupil expenditure, requires Calculus to graduate, and pays their teachers better. Meanwhile, Fox News teaches their pupils how to count by potato.

Ok; you guys may have to sit down for this one, but:

NO ONE CARES ABOUT INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS!

Everybody is busy watching what brainless starlet is making babby now. Or what former child star is getting drunk and charging $15 for a goood time. Or which music artist is doing enough coke to kill a small Ethiopian village.

2014-01-30 04:39:49 PM
Subby has been watching too much Fox and/or MSNBC -- he can no longer identify extraneous words such as the last four of the headline. They serve only to make the whole thing more awkward.

As a conservative, I only listen to attractive women.   We should put that into our female outreach efforts.

"Ladies, trying to keep weight off after the holidays?  Then join the Republican party where it's 'No Fat Chicks' Day, every day.  We'll shame those pounds right off."

If these broads were smart they'd already vote for us.  We just need to improve our messaging.
