You can always depend on the support of Paul.

Now I know that's not true because about 32% of the 99% are Republicans who don't realize they're not actually part of the 1%.

"Fair opportunity" is supposed to be different from "take money from those who have it and give it to those who don't."

I don't want the government to do the redistributing.  I want my employer to pay me what I am worth.   High taxes would force corporations to invest back into the company.  If they are structured correctly, it would force them to pay their employees more.  But the solution needs to be clever and not open for loopholes.

Fortunately what's going on here is that we're evening the playing field from people who have gamed the system.

Let's put it to you this way:  we can take the money from those who have it and give it to those who don't (who will spend it on products that those who have produce), or we can take the money from those who have it and give them a haircut in return.  Choose wisely, young padawan.

Right. We need to stop siphoning off every last available dollar from the poor and middle classes to further enrich the 1%.

The wealthy have been taking gains from workers and giving it to themselves for quite some time. It's difficult to have empathy for those that everything when the argument is for them to have less of what they'll never use.

Also we need to have White Collar crime asset forfeiture.   Treat them like pirates.
If they commit any kind of fraud, take everything they own and dig up offshore banking.

Wealth distribution shouldn't be "fair" the goal should be whatever makes the economy run the best, I get that appealing to fairness would resonate with low info type voters though so I can see why that verbiage is used.

~90% of people would express a desire for a fair tax system.  However, nearly all of them would disagree on what that was.

Raise the minimum wage so that unskilled laborers can afford training and education, invest in higher education, particularly for those who would normally avoid it because of the cost, and as others have said in this thread, pay people what they are worth.

The idea of "take money from the rich, who won't even be able to spend all of their money" is frankly asinine.

Give everyone a more even playing field to have the opportunities to improve themselves and earn more, not "penalize those who are successful and reward those who have less," that doesn't help anyone

Class warfare has been going on for quite some time.  Obama just now realized that going Neville Chamberlain with this group of cross wearing, potatoe-headed assholes ain't gonna work and it's time to release the T. Sherman.

The rich have won.  There victory is complete.   Obama's is just negotiating the terms of the surrender so the unclean masses won't revolt.

The problem is, that employers think employees are worthless.  Some want to do away with minimum wage and child labor law.  Pay people a livable wage, and we'll see the spending on social programs even out and drop and consumer spending rise.  Taxpayers are subsidizing low wages to enrich corporate profits.  Those working full time should be able to support a family of 4 on their wages without resorting to charity.  That's what "fair" means.

2014-01-30 10:50:36 AM
There is so much fail in that headline I don't know where to begin.

// I'm always entertained by the 99% meme, because it makes me imagine how people in the second percentile would look trying to "occupy" stuff.

"conservatives" have been told to say this as an attempt to shame anyone trying to get tax breaks for the middle class or social services for the poor, eventually it is going to backfire and people are going to be like... yeah bring on the class-warfare, thanks for the suggestion squirt, we'll get right on taxing capital gains at such a progressive rate it will make marx blush.

Well good thing that fair and for the best are the same thing in this case. What makes the economy function best is a big middle class with evened out wealth distribution.

Minimum wage is a BS issue and wealth distribution is just a hot button do-nothing democratic strategy to retain votes.  When politicians start talking about a living wage, I will start to listen.  Until that time, it is the duty of everyone in the working class to fight this economic and class domination by the few.  They will attempt to razzle dazzle you with racism, sexism and any other 'ism to make you forget how badly you are being farked by them, while at the same time trying to not make you wise to the fact that they REALLY REALLY need you in order to line their pockets.

Just you all wait until the TPP is ratified in America.  The media and the wealthy are going to be vilifying Asian workers for "taking American jerbs!!".  Meanwhile, the American, wealthy capitalist owners of the factories in Asia will be snickering all the way to the bank while they attempt to turn the working class against each other.

Fark the rich.

Ha. Even in Antarctica I would have been able to hear the president's persistent railing against the wealthy. It's very much been his thing. And the result, according to the chart in TFA, has been fewer people thinking like he does.

Maybe you want to pass that off as "Real Americans" hardening their stances against him, and maybe there's some truth to that but all I said is that it was interesting.
