Bartman66: JusticeandIndependence: someonelse: DrBenway: Note to self: Never EVER call Rachel Maddow a cheerleader.

I think she was aghast because she has been very critical of the Obama administration at times. For him to call her a cheerleader was just plain idiocy.

I think she was offended by the actual thought of being a cheerleader period.

lol
Being citical a few times and spending 99% of your time just going attacking the "other" side pretty much makes you a cheerleader. Just like the clowns at fox.
I can't blame her too much because it is basically a mob mentality. When you are surrounded by people who wear their badge of bias like an honor you can't help but be sucked into it. And that is the most disappointing part, because she is very VERY smart but unfortunately she goes for the low hanging fruit and overwhelmingly only points out the "others" faults.
But I guess if that is your cup of tea than or your "team" than I guess you are offended that this.
I always love the (bias) passion of you far right and left folks. Luckily you don't represent the majority of people but you always have the majority of online comments.

That's a lot of words, strung together in a not entirely coherent way, to say "both sides are bad."

The sad part is there are probably more than a few people in his district who watched that and thought "damn, that lesbian got told" then went out to the chicken coop yelling it is Benghazi time my fine feathered friends.

Dan the Schman: Yammer all you want about the faults of liberals, when it comes to pants-on-head-retarded crackpots stammering out revisionist history, conspiracy theories, and nonsensical word salads, Democrats and liberals just give them an hourly show, or make them a "correspondent", while Republicans elect them to political office and give them the power to craft law that will affect thousands if not millions of people.

Okay, in all seriousness... do liberals even have political opinion shows that approach this level of hysteria?

I mean,  Keith Olbermann could get pretty over the top, but I think even at his worst he was still on speaking terms with Reality. For Huelskamp's level of Potato, you pretty much need to resort to anonymous posters on Democratic Underground.

whatsupchuck: I do hope that the Republican party doesn't eradicate itself completely.  The entertainment value of this level of crazy is the one thing I'd really miss having around.

"Entertaining" Republicans have been around since the party decided to limit itself to God and Guns back in the 1980s; there have always been a few court jesters to spice up debates. Al Franken talked about a few of them in his book "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot;" you had people like Bob Dornan, the Grimm of the 1990s, who had an incredible temper problem, plus a couple of Black Helicopter people.

When the rhetoric heated up with the dogmatic polemics in the 1990s, while they provided red meat to the base, it was still, in general, possible to communicate with Republicans. In 2008, after losing the Presidency, the Republicans decided to embrace the crazy train out of desperation; they couldn't win without attracting some very weird constituencies.

There's more to having the majority than just having the majority; the majority party in Congress sets the legislative schedule and heads all the committees. So you can see why a John Boehner might be willing to temporarily embrace a Louis Gohmert so long as it means not losing that cushy chair, even if it means he has to listen to the 24-Hour "I Hate Muslims" show.

The crazy train was, until 2010, probably the sole unexploited constituency in Washington; NOBODY wanted to jump in with the Loose Change people and the "UN are taking over!" conspiracists, until the Republicans managed to alienate every other constituency who would listen to them due to their increasingly hyperbolic rhetoric. "Well, there go the Soccer Moms, now what do we do?" "Hey, there's a whole bunch of potential voters over here that no one's appealing to..." "Do they hate Obama?" "Yes but they're saying he's a Communist Muslim Kenyan usurper with no birth certificate and ties to Al-Qaeda. They're also claiming he's building death camps in Vermont." "Eh, we're desperate. Bring 'em in."

It doesn't matter. There aren't 10 people in his entire district that have watched MSNBC in the past 10 years, beyond flipping past it channel surfing. He could have went on her show, stripped naked, masturbated to ejaculation, and rubbed the semen in his hair while singing Deutschland Uber Alles, and he'd still get 65% of the vote from the Big 1.

Having spent the first 24.5 years of my life in his district, I must say you described one of the most sacred Saturday night rituals in Great Bend, KS. Have you ever been to one of our masturbation-semen rubbing singoffs?

I disagree.
I suspect, through the awesome GOP power of projection, he expected a screaming match where Maddow would be yelling and slinging insults, etc.
It didn't happen as he planned, and he got frustrated and scared.  When challenged in the slightest, he misinterpreted that as what he was expecting and went off.
...and the cameras rolled.

Uh, gawd. That could almost be him.

Did you know the Great Pyramid at Giza was the planets first nuclear power plant? It was really built over 50,000 years ago.

And if you drew straight lines through the Earth to all the pyramids around the world, they form a geometric shape that is "remarkably similar" to the street patterns in Washington DC and the Roman viae and the straight lines between the Templar Temples.

Theres a REASON FOR IT.

meltdown = loss of ability to speak coherent English or form a cogent argument. I have a feeling that's not a recent development for this guy.

Meltdown implies a lot more than that and should involve either uncontrollable sobbing or dissolving into an incoherent mess. It's another word being needlessly diluted for the sake of drama and clicks.

It's a common trait in the sort of person he is: he is legitimately stupid, with strong opinions but no ability to articulate a rational, logical underpinning for any of them, but; he has so bought into the hype of his party's righteousness that he's lost self-awareness and doesn't know he's not the smartest person in the room.

He went on there fully expecting to dazzle Maddow and her libby audience with the power of his ideas, I'm sure, and probably still doesn't realize what actually occured.

Maddow did nothing to him, she just let him talk. He did it to himself.

With that being said, you know his base viewed this very differently from how normal people did. They were all probably clapping and cheering him on, claiming that he suck it to the Liberals.

She challenged him slightly, and that seemed to cause his brain to short-circuit. He wouldn't have had the same break down on Fox or CBS. But yes, this will not harm his electoral prospects one bit. His party's larger goals, perhaps, but not his personal ones

She didn't challenge him in the slightest, she just asked him to explain the shiat that was falling out of his mouth.

Ever notice that what many bloviators on the right claim to be "gotcha" journalism is simply the press allowing them to make asses of themselves? If I merely let you embarrass yourself, am I somehow to blame?

That is a common GOP defense mechanism; Accusing people of asking you to explain your words or actions equates to an attack on you.

As Charlie Pierce says, I do sometimes despair of the Rebranding.

Their "Rebranding" is merely an euphemism for "doubling down on the Derp". They actually seem to believe they aren't getting their message across because Voters aren't intelligent enough to listen.

Otherwise known as the "Luntz Theory" after Frank Luntz. He once thought that the republicans had to listen to the people, now he thinks the people are too stupid to listen to, since they voted a blah man into the presidency -- TWICE!

The only way someone could possibly be cretinous enough to vote for a Republican would be if one were many generations inbred, suffering from fetal alcohol syndrome, had grown up eating paint chips, and was in the final stages of meth poisoning.

In other words, a generic mainstream Republican.

An "honest assessment" is not necessarily an objective one or an accurate one. You're aware of that, right? To claim some sort middle-of-the-road higher ground for your perceived-to-be superior self is well nigh delusional in your case if not the very opposite of "honest".

Not that anyone is surprised, mind you.

Cletus C.: I never claimed the hatred was limited to self. Hardly.

So what are you trying to claim?

Also are you obligated to defend every stupid Benghazi derp?

Aquapope: This guy represents the western 3/4ths of Kansas.  There are some places in his district with no trees and almost no hills.  You can see 50 miles away and back in time 60 years.  You can watch your dog run away for almost a week.

I'm late to comment, but damn, i laughed at that one.

El_Perro: Lost Thought 00: Why on God's green Earth would he go on Maddow? What did he think was going to happen?

He thinks it went well.  Well enough that he posted it on his own website.  And why wouldn't he?  His appearance is being cheered on the right:

GOP lawmaker SLAMS Rachel Maddow: 'Stop being a cheerleader and be a journalist'

Those people are completely disillusion aren't they? It is like they completely blocked out 99.9% of the interview and focused on the part where he called her a cheerleader, and are claiming victory. It is like claiming victory in a 40-7 route because you scored a touchdown.

And that isn't even all of it. They are even praising that asshole Rep from New York that threatened the reporter. These people are sad.

DrBenway: Bartman66: wow.. all the butt hurt over an honest assessment of her?
So she is bias and most of the time presents her cases or commentary from that approach. Just like Fox and the rest of MSNBC that is what they do.
Sorry if reality offends you but life goes on. I get it you guys on the far left love her just like the far right loves Hannity and Beck. There's nothing to be ashamed of or get too pissy about.

True is the respect that it is my opinion differs from your opinion on this matter.
Mine is that she is very bias and generally presents from that point of view and your is that she isn't. We are all entitled to our opinions.
The crying aobut being sort-of middle ground is always funny to hear from you guys becasue someone doesn't follow lock step with your thoughts. Sorry if not pandering to one side or the other seems to get you kids all pissy and therefor either with us or against us mentality comes out.
Sorry but neither side of the isle has my backing because they both have good points and bad points and the typical farker refuses to see that because of ther blind loyalty and hatred for the other side.
