It's gas-powered. I'm not sure how you lock-out/tag-out a gas-powered device aside from a valve on the fuel line.

If you have a wood chipper that has no way to lock it out, you need a new wood chipper.

The starter circuit.

They also make big steel bars that you feed through the chassis, through a hole in the cutter wheel, and lock on the other side of the chassis.

This isn't a backyard chipper, this is a piece of industrial machinery. If there aren't federal PLUS state regulations requiring such things, I'd be surprised, because the GOP tells us every day that we're already over-regulated and regulations kill jobs.

Which in my book is a lot better than killing, you know, actual people.

(Never had to deal with lock-out/tag-out procedures myself, but even this white-collar cube jockey can see they're just common sense. Which is probably why management let this slide; too many people in the upper ranks have never worked on the floor and just. Don't Get. It.)

Kind of off topic, but in every gun thread somebody comes in and says if somebody breaks into their house, they would wait and find their intentions before shooting them.  The funny looking guy had a gun and wound up losing pistol-axey to Karl Hungus from 20 feet away and wound up in the wood chipper.  Just sayin.

That is so weird. Yesterday some city employees where I live were trimming tree branches just down the street from me and putting them through a chipper. The whole time that thing was running I had chills running through me, I wanted to yell out the window to tell them to turn it off. I live in Washington.

The #1 news article I wish I hadn't read:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/10/jeffrey-bourgeois-6-kille_n _1 416406.html

I helped my neighbor with a rented wood chipper just two weeks after reading that article.   I also have young kids and told my wife to lock the doors and not let the kids out of her sight as long as they could hear the wood chipper running.

Oh fark yea same here bro.  Standing rule in my house is if I'm using the chainsaw or the chipper then no kids or dogs outside.  Specially with my mightymac chipper, no room for error with that green lil terror.  Its usefull as hell but it scares the shiat out of me.
