Democrats say they're merely doing what Republicans have done when they held a majority.

Silly Democrats.  They obviously don't understand how politics work.

How does it feel, GOP?

Or did you expect you could be complete shiat-heels for years and that it wouldn't come back to bite you in the ass?  Did you buy into Rove's ego-talk about a Permanent GOP Majority?

LOL@U

As far as Republicans are concerned, only people who vote GOP (and fetuses) count as "people."  So to a certain extent, they're right.  It's morally deplorable and shameful to the very idea of representative democracy, but there you are.

Garrett, a former commonwealth attorney from Louisa County, said Edwards "can singlehandedly pull any Senate bill from the purview of the full body and kill it in a party-line vote without having the accountability and transparency of a floor vote on the record."

You mean the normal powers that the head of a legislative body usually has? Bohener has this power too.

I hope that, someday, I can live in a world where I never have to hear a liberal Democrat extol the virtues of bipartisanship.  VA just got us a little closer.  Thank you, VA.

In what Republicans called "a Virginia version of Harry Reid's nuclear option," Democrats in the state legislature invoked new rules giving them control of all state Senate committees.

This happens every time a new majority takes over a legislature. They change the sub-committees so they have a majority of whatever party that's in power.

More Republicans outrage at just Democrats gaining a majority.

I'm not familiar with Virginia politics. People in this thread are stating that the Republicans did this while they were in power....I just asking for a citation..if it's true.

The slimmest of majorities; perhaps the Republicans expected the committees to be split evenly.

If so, LOL.

Former minority party gains majority.
Rewrites rules to better suit their majority status
And the Republicans are crying foul?  Isn't this normally how things go?

What seems to be the problem?

They should have waited until the Republicans had a chance to get a majority again before they even THOUGHT about redoing committees.

Politics aside, there's plenty of attraction in Virginia. Lots of neat stuff, particularly in Northern Virginia.

Great combination of large urban amenities and culture with open rural landscape and small-town charm, side by side.

/It's a magical place.

It really is too bad that in 2012 the Republicans didn't break with the power-sharing tradition if the Senate was tied 20-20.  Wait a minute...

I love how the Richmond Times Dispatch used the headline "Democrats Seize Power in Senate," like this was some new and outrageous political maneuver.  Instead, it's just sauce for the goose.
