This girl sounds awesome and the guy who whined this entire treatise on how to be an idiot is ... an idiot.

I wouldn't date a travel-obsessed girl. Our lifestyles and attitudes wouldn't match.

"Let's go to Paris for the weekend!"

"I don't like to fly and if I did I can't imagine why I would go to a crowded city full of rude people."

"It's so romantic."

"I'm not romantic."

And then it would escalate and end with somebody buried in the swamp out back. Probably me if she's hyperathletic and climbs Everest between trips to Paris.

But what if I like to travel?

I don't think he's whining. I think he's trying to be ironically romantic, but just isn't all that talented.

Never date a girl who travels. Just bang her when she rolls through town, then forget about her. And shave your pubes, because she caught crabs from a public bathhouse in Sri Lanka, and now you have them too.

I once dated a "traveller". Most insufferable three months of my life. Every single goddamned conversation had something to do with someplace she had been. Yeah, I know the sushi at that little restaurant in Nagasaki was much better than the stuff we've got here. You tell me Every. Single. Goddamned. Time.

skinink: More like don't date someone who doesn't travel.

This. I love traveling, and don't do it enough. So I would love to date someone that would rather travel than be impressed by a friggin watch. And that's what I just got from the headline. Let's read a bit:

Don't date a girl who travels. She is hard to please. The usual dinner-movie date at the mall will suck the life out of her. Her soul craves for new experiences and adventures. She will be unimpressed with your new car and your expensive watch. She would rather climb a rock or jump out of an airplane than hear you brag about it.

Don't date a girl who travels because she will bug you to book a flight every time there's an airline seat sale. She wont party at Republiq. And she will never pay over $100 for Avicii because she knows that one weekend of clubbing is equivalent to one week somewhere far more exciting.

Ok, what the fark is this? Is this being sarcastic? Because this girl sounds awesome and this person complaining sounds like a douchebag.

I'm putting money on it being ironic.

Stay in your own backyard, where it's safe. There's no place like home. You'll never have to worry again.

And give me your suitcases, since you won't be using them.

Just date a stripper.

They are surprisingly low maintenance.
Usually pretty good in the sack.
More often then not, they will offer to pick up the check at dinner.

Sure they have some issues.
But at the end of the day, everyone has some issues.

Bullcrap.

A chick that loves to travel is easy to please.  Travelling is cheap.  Travelling is easy.  You can drop a few thousand dollars and have an amazing trip somewhere.  It takes no effort and no thought on your part and she'll love it.  And the article is describing a chick that travels on the cheap!  Camping for a week is so f***ing easy.

What's hard is a girl that wants the traditional American dream.  Drop a few hundred thousand dollars on a house and spend the rest of your life working your ass off to pay for it.  That's what most people do.  Maybe try to fix it up yourself, watch some HGTV and head over to the Home Depot and spend your nights and weekends dumping money into it.  Not only is it many times less fun than travelling, you'll spend more on it AND your wife will appreciate it less.  Oh sure, conceptually, she appreciates it.  But it's just regular life, day in and day out.  It's what you do.  Work a crappy job, pay your 401k, kill yourself providing boring stuff like health insurance and a house and a car and it's just normal.

But surprise a girl with a weekend trip to Vegas and you're a hero.  Mr. Romantic.  Drop $50 on flowers you order online in 3 minutes and you're the man.  Take a bus two hours per day to get to a crappy job you hate so your wife's commute will be shorter and two weeks in, it's forgotten.

At the family gatherings, when she's out with her friends, or talking to her parents - people ohhh and ahhhh when you show pictures of the hot-air balloon ride you dropped $300 on.  That stuff is easy.  So easy.  And cheap.

That was horrible. But if I could afford to fly first class I'd travel more. I'm 6'5" and my femur is longer than the so called "leg room" offered by US carriers, and I'd probably have to fly as cargo in Asia.

Don't date a girl who travels because you will be just one of about 3 dozen other guys who will just be the guy she crashes with when in town, usually with little to no advanced notice.

...or is that just backpackers?

2014-01-29 01:23:14 PM
Lets see, a down-to-earth girl that likes adventure and excitement, or a high-maintenance one that is going to want jewelry, expensive dinners, and a membership "at the yacht club" because all of the people she wants to impress have one there, too.  Decisions, decisions...

Don't date a girl who travels; she's got the worst case of ADD, ever.

And why would a girl who travels ever give the impression she's datable anyway?  She should know that the next guy that comes along that gets her attention is going to win over her current guy.

Yea. I'm doubling down on my earlier bet. This is likely aimed at the "but I paid for bottle service for her! What else is there?" crowd.

She will never need you. She knows how to pitch a tent and screw her own fins without your help. She cooks well and doesn't need you to pay for her meals. She is too independent and wont care whether you travel with her or not. She will forget to check in with you when she arrives at her destination. She's busy living in the present. She talks to strangers. She will meet many interesting, like-minded people from around the world who share her passion and dreams. She will be bored with you.

So never date a girl who travels unless you can keep up with her. And if you unintentionally fall in love with one, don't you dare keep her. Let her go.

There is always economy plus or business (not that business is exactly cheap).

If I could afford to be traveling international first I wouldn't be dicking around on Fark.
