Nope. I've read the books three times and think the TV show is kinda dumbed down.

Past book 3 it is worse than WoT, so yeah.

I find it requires thought to keep up with it.

WHich is why some people can;t seem to do it.

There's a lot less people to keep track of given the end of last season.

A Song of Ice and Fire has a long, long way to go before it comes close to WoT.

Not really.

When you have multiple page compendiums that go over 10 houses worth of names, sigils and such, you are well on your way to WoT complexity.

/I enjoy both series
//both have their faults

"On your way" being the operative phrase, implying that you're not there yet.

The problem with Wheel of Time is not that the world was complex and detailed, the problem was that it was so complex and detailed that Jordan got bogged down and there were several books that literally did not advance the plot; A Song of Ice and Fire has maybe one (book 4), and even that didn't bog significantly.

qorkfiend: there were several books that literally did not advance the plot;

Incorrect.

Oh it may have went SLOWER in some books, however he is not spinning his weels in any of them, including Crossroads of Twilight. In reality, books 7 and 8 needed to be joined and about 300 pages less and 9 and 10 simply need to be looked at JUST LIKE how books 4 and 5 are for SoIaF... 2 books that pretty much cover the same time span.

No, I don't have cable, so until the library gets the DVDs, we're good.

Less talk of sigils, more of pies.

Winter's Heart and Crossroads of Twilight were indeed the ones I was mostly thinking of. I remember finishing Crossroads and thinking to myself, "Did anything actually happen in that book?" Maybe it was just the numerous chapters of Perrin sitting around in the snow...

The people I know that have read the books have been complaining mightily that the last two books did nothing to advance the plot.

Oh it's fair, I am just suggesting that out of 14 books, 2 to 4 of them being slower then the rest is better then "well lord only knows if you'll get to ever read another". :)

They either have poor reading comprehension or had their own preconceived notions of what should happen and when.

the 4th book is unreadable.

I know I'm late to the party here, but one way to really trim the fat from the Song of Ice and Fire books is to simply skip any chapter that has a Dornish POV. So much time wasted in those chapters establishing backstory and character, only to have them go nowhere.

It really would have made books 4 and 5 much easier.

I supplement every episode I watch with reading the Wikipedia entry.

I skip all WoT chapters written from females perspectives. I've been doing it for the last three books and been happier for doing so.
