A story only sportswriters give half a sh*t about.

In his few minutes of talking with the media, Lynch said his fans weren't worried about what he would say. "They just want to make sure I show up to perform," he said.

And that, Dear Farkers, is the truest thing that has ever been said here.

He talked for 6 minutes.  That's outstanding for him.

Also had a great 2 minute interview with Deion Sanders.

I also find the butthurt from a few reporters hilarious.  Like it would be any more 'professional' to have Marshawn sit up there and answer stupid questions from guys in waldo outfits and wedding dresses.

The whining on twitter was a little over the top. Doyel over at CBSSports wrote a whole over-wrought column about how embarrassing it was. John Clayton says the NFL should fine him $100k. Ed Werder decided that Lynch is getting special treatment from the NFL. Gah.

His fine was lifted because he agreed to be made available to the media. The transcripts of his interviews have been hilariously short lately.

I wouldn't talk to the media either. But let's be real here - it ain't a bad rule. It's ultimately the media machine driving all that revenue. The nfl exists at all at the pleasure of that giant tv contact and the tv people demand access to the product. I wouldn't like it but I'd understand it. And finally, I like marshawn. I'd probably do it how he does it. But he should have picked another plumbing company. Beacon plumbing is terrible - the list of complaints against those guys wouldn't fit in a fark thread. I hope your average local Seahawk fan knows that.

Gooooood luck. Skittles is auctioning them off on eBay on the 29th with a bunch of other skittles-encrusted football stuff or something. And all proceeds are going to Fam 1st to boot, so you'll likely be looking at a $10,000 bag of skittles.

/they're also apparently giving them away occasionally in Seattle too?

No, Thomas was a head case who was inconsistent on the field, and downright surly with the media, fans, and eventually teammates. He was alot more like Milton Bradley. Lynch just doesn't like to talk to the media, especially in large groups.

I love Beacon Plumbing.    When I bought the current house, it had two 55 gallon hot water heaters side by side (we have a giant jacuzzi tub).  The inspection said they were reaching the end of their life and would need replaced in the near future.  Fine.  No problem.

So one day I come home and one of the tanks had vented it's guts all over the garage floor.  I said, hey great, I'll isolate that tank, and call in a plumber to get the thing fixed on Monday.  Except the retards that installed the second tank plumbed it inseries, so it was impossible to isolate.  So there it is, Sunday night, and my hot water is gone.   I was freakin'.

Beacon had a truck out in 45 minutes.   The plumbers were clean, professional, and well trained.   They noted that the second tank was about to go, too, and came up with about half a dozen options on what to do, along with pricing.   They told me to think on it, re-plumbed the existing tank setup at no cost, and went on their way.  Next day I had them out installing a tankless system, which has been fantastic.  When I put the new kitchen in, I'm having them put in the recirculation system, too.

He's done several sports show spots (Sports Science, etc.) It's not that he's shy or anything, he just doesn't like the media. He's got his own style, and some pearl-clutching soccer mom in the Midwest might think her precious snowflake would melt if exposed to Marshawn at full strength. He swears, he listens to hardcore Oakland street rappers. But he's a stand-up guy to his teammates, and they like him.

I'm actually kind of surprised that John Clayton came out that way on him. Maybe he's just butthurt he didn't get the interview that Deion Sanders got.

My job brings me into brief contact with Seahawks and their families. This white, snarling machine pulls up and Marshawn hops out dressed in a hoodie and saggin' jeans.. Earl Thomas' mom is standing right next to me. I sigh..."oh Marshawn - pull up your freekin' pants!" I thought Mom was going to giggle herself to death. "I want to tell him that Soo bad" she says.

I love my job

Oh, it's someone from one coast or another, that has to pull the Midwest into every conversation and biatch about it. Your statement makes no sense at all; what the hell does a Midwest mom have to do with a player not wanting to talk to the media? There's no connection at all. You're the Internet version of "old man yells at clouds".

2014-01-29 04:40:56 AM
The media is so incredibly self absorbed and arrogant. For once, we have an athlete who doesn't want to talk, and they treat him horribly and try to make this into a big freaking deal.

Here's the truth: we don't give a fark about members of the media or how many of them felt snummed, and most of us don't hang on every word of athletes. Do your f*cking job and talk about the games/teams, don't MAKE stories out of this garbage because of feeling slighted. Lynch, and others, have done enough on (and sometimes off) the field to fill newspapers, so why do we care how a particular guy feels on a particular day? We want to see them perform, not marry them.

And, for the record, most of us would watch football REGARDLESS of things like post-game interviews. Don't pretend that contracts with these pro sports leagues don't provide a lot of benefits to the press, especially financially.

2014-01-29 08:27:32 AM
His interview with Sanders was pretty good.

SANDERS: You camera-shy? You just don't want to talk, really.
LYNCH: I'm just about that action, boss.
SANDERS: You about to go get it. You just like to do.
LYNCH: That's what it is. I ain't never seen no talking winning nothing. Been like that since I was little. I was raised like that.
SANDERS: Well I respect it.
LYNCH: I'm gonna get it. Don't need to talk about it.

I wouldn't expect that a large plumbing company would screw up every single job. Anyway, Just thought I'd mention it as I spend lots of time vetting subcontractors - in twenty years I have never seen a rap sheet like theirs. The complaints and lawsuits under their license literally won't fit on one page. And who gets a "C" from the better business bureau? They already got "get Jesse'd" but I don't think it helped.

What a hack.

So, if you give candid answers like Sherman, you get killed in the press.  If you say nothing, you get killed in the press.  If you give canned, cliched, BS answers that the press has heard a million times and come out of a quote generator, you are a darling.

Just stop pretending that sports journalism has anything to do with real journalism, and we can all get along okay.

Apparently, the writer's union for football journalists is thinking about filing an official complain about it.  What a bunch of assholes.  You know, if they actually did their jobs and asked questions that were worth the time it took to answer them, some players would be more receptive.  Hell, the Japanese reporter got almost ten minutes out of Lynch, mostly because she bribed him with (and talked about) candy.  But it seems most sports journalists have the same questions:

1.  How do you feel about (person)?
2.  How do you feel about (event)?
3.  How are you preparing for (event?)

And the funny thing is, on media day, most of the sports "journalists" howl and complain or treat like freaks the people that ask the off-the-wall or "stupid" questions.  Hey, those folks may be dressed silly, but at least they try.

Oh yeah. I just found it funny that the PFWA has decided that not answering ridiculous bullshiat questions should be worthy of league-mandated punishment. If you want to essentially force people to answer questions on media day, step your game up and make it worthwhile. Until you idiots can manage to stay on-point, STFU about the players who accurately peg this crap as a total waste of time.

Everyone has a fair point here. As a player I'd get terribly tired of it. But I understand sportswriters trying to protect their turf as well - it's a pretty cutthroat business itself. Sometimes the best questions come from the non-sports reporters.

We're kind of all focusing on one guy here who doesn't want the attention. But lots of the guysenjoy media day - the forty or so guys who rarely get much press attention actually like it when reporters seem interested in them for a change. Media day is certainly not all bad for the players.

It's not a waste of time.  It's "Under the Helmet" for the millions of Catholics who only go to church on Christmasfootball fans who only watch on Super Bowl Sunday.  A little something called "marketing".

Get the casual football fan invested in the outcome.  "Oh, I like that guy, I hope his team wins."  Or, "Oh, I hate that Sherman guy, I hope Seattle gets wiped out by a meteor."
