I'm sure I'll get flak for this, but I liked the last Riddick movie and I'd love to see another one.

Not as good as the second, but alright.

The whole pet dog thing angle was a bit silly.

I haven't gotten around to seeing the 3rd Riddick movie, though if the art direction was as amazing for #3 as it was for #2, I'd watch it solely for that.

Same here, I thought it was very entertaining.  What more can you ask from a Riddick movie?

Also, I had no idea I would be laying eyes on Katee Sackhoff's boobies so it at least got that going for it, which is nice.

It's a testament to how sexy I find him that I want to do him even after that nonsense.  And his acting.

Every Riddick movie he makes = less time for another FastFurious derpideedoofest.  Kudos.

I did too but the next one can't be another mercs and monsters rehash.

Same here. Just watched Pitch Black for the umpteenth time on cable and I'm happy to hear there's another one in the works.

And if they ever make a movie out of the Borderlands games I nominated Vin to play Mr Torgue.

Just saw Riddick this past weekend.  Not a bad flick.  Sits between the monster movie package of the first one and the grandeur and fantasy epic feel of the second.  A bit slow in places, but it caters to fans of the Riddick series and video games pretty forcefully.

I'm sorry, but it's hard not to love the lug after that horrible, horrible dance of joy and victory. It's so refreshing to see that a geek can live in a body like that.

Nah, just wouldn't work.  He's not 'chatty' enough, if you know what I mean?  You need that OVERTHETOP personality only found in the WWE ranks, given that Torgue is heavily influenced by the genre.

It was some late night talk show - Letterman or something - and he was asked if it was true that he was a gamer. He didn't try to make excuses. He was all like "Hell yeah I game" and went on to wax rhapsodic about his umpteenth level paladin.

Great news.

I really like Diesel as Riddick but found the last movie had its ups and downs.  There were spots in the movie that had the whole theater laughing or groaning in disgust, which was awesome.  The monster though just didn't do it for me.  The ensemble was just a group of mercs, so it added only a limited dynamic.  I thought Katie kind of sucked written as a bad mouth biatch because it just seemed she was trying too hard to force it.

You won't get that feeling of darkness and desperation from Pitch Black back.  It's its own thing.  They'll fail if they try too hard for that angle.

All in all I thought it was worthwhile though and look forward to another.  The effects were great.  The plot was comprehensible, if not slow at times.  Well directed.  If you like Riddick, you'll enjoy the movie if you temper your expectations.

People pay money to look at this guy on screen,   He should pay me to look, same goes for NICK CAGE.

Ayup. He's the weirdest combination of nerd and jock in Hollywood. And that's a good thing, imo.

I'd rather see something more like the second one as opposed to him just fighting monsters.

2014-01-28 06:17:22 PM
Riddick was absolutely delightful schlock until the last ten minutes, when the budget had clearly been exhausted and they needed to do something to end the thing in under three hours.

That said, Diesel loves and appreciates his fans.  I'll support him no matter how many crappy  Fast/Furious films he makes.

2014-01-28 06:28:30 PM
I'm a fan of the man, mostly due to his attitude toward his fans and his movies.

Plus, the Riddick movies aren't terrible and the F&F movies seem to be getting 'better' with each sequel as opposed to worse, which is weird.

2014-01-28 06:31:00 PM
Pitch Black was that movie you never expected to be that good. Great movie that just came out of nowhere.

Chronicles was a bloated piece of crap, needlessly trying to shoehorn in fantasy elements in a gritty scifi universe and trying to force out an "epic" so hard I think it had an embolism on the toilet.

Riddick was a pleasing return to something more like Pitch Black. Not as good, but not bad. Of course rather then try and copy Pitch Black I wish they had just did a scifi movie with Riddick thrown in that just wasn't as lame and fantasy dress-up as Chronicles.

It was a little all over the place but it was more ambitious than most sci-fi schlock they put out now. With some minor rewrites it could have been really good.

Well, he did fall with a shiatload of rocks, too, so there's that.

Besides, the unrated cut that just dropped on Bluray shows him coming back...and he wasn't very happy with the guy who dropped him.

I don't dislike the F&F movies. Just a couple of the ones in the middle seem to be completely unwatchable (2 and 3 i think?)

Those two were so bad, (at a critical time; when the franchise was trying to get legs) that most prematurely yet justifiably wrote them all off as garbage.

Touch of the Bond villian "No I'm not going to go down there and check I'm just going to assume he's dead and that' everything has gone according to plan."

Don't care for his movies, nor his acting chops, but I also can't see how anyone could truly dislike the guy.

One of the few people in Hollywood I could honestly see having a beer with.

Three is watchable, but that's it.

2 Fast is an abortion that, for some time afterwards, had me thinking the series shouldn't even had been one

I recently discovered that Twohy wrote a script for "Alien 3" that wasn't used. That made me kinda sad until I found out elements of said script ended up in "Pitch Black".

//His part in  Saving Private Ryan was actually pretty good.

I've liked all the Riddick movies so far, and both of the games.  However, I did have a few moments of severe eye rolling during the latest one..."Riddick is SO MANLY he can turn a lesbian straight," was the biggest one for me.

2014-01-28 07:22:00 PM
*sigh*  I guess it's up to me to be That Guy®.  To date, there have been four Riddick films not three:

Pitch Black
Dark Fury
The Chronicles of Riddick
Riddick

Dark Fury is animated, but fills in the story between Pitch Black and Chronicles.  Riddick was basically a remake of Pitch Black, but with some Katee Sackhoff nipple and an alien dog instead of a young girl.

2014-01-28 07:22:43 PM
Chronicles was probably the closest thing I've ever seen to a vast, epic, Warhammer 40K universe on the big screen. However, it should have been at least two movies. I'm hoping #4 involves more Necromongers.

I agree with all of your post. I still watch Pitch Black when I run across it, but haven't watched Chronicles hardly since it came out. I didn't even want to see Riddick. I waited until Redbox, but I enjoyed it.

Am I the only one that wanted the main plot of #3 to be about Dame Vaako ruthlessly having her way with Kyra?

Maybe throw in a few scenes with Rhona Mitra just to spice it up....

I'm still waiting for Disney to call him and cast him in a Darth Bane movie.  But seeing as how the spin off films probably won't cover the Old Republic era, well, it's just wishful thinking.

They cut the crap out of the 2nd one....it made much more sense and was a far better movie without the cuts...and then they cut out the Necromonger Vaako stuff at the end of the 3rd.   There was much more of the Necro plot in the 3rd than was in the theatrical release.

I agree with the no more monster/merc plots.  Perhaps something with the Necros?

2014-01-28 08:08:25 PM
Black out was a good movie. I LOVED the Chronicle's and I was so looking forward to the new movie. I walked out of that movie saying "that was just Black Out all over again." So if they go for a 4th movie, they better bring back the Necromongers. They are what made the second one good.

And, they better bring back the hot chick that played Dame Vaako.
