For everyone who'd "rather die than vote Democrat" or who hates Hillary: welcome to one of your better alternatives

He's counting on Chris Christie to make him look thinner.

All Americans count on Christie making them look thinner.

but what is he going to do to make himself look less like a less competent and less charismatic Richard M Nixon

I'm not crazy about Hillary, but I would vote for her in a split second if it were her vs. any of the current crop of R candidates.

Rick Santorum - for those who think Ken Cuccineli is just too socially progressive.

2014-01-28 01:25:54 PM
Of course he is. According to the "first loser" rule of Republican primaries, the person who just didn't get the nomination the last time gets it the next time. McCain lost to Bush in the 2000 primary, won in 2008, Romney lost the 2008 primary, won in 2012, Santorum lost the 2012 primary, so he's due.

Santorum is so bad that were he to get the nomination it might be enough to push the GOP over the edge and cause a split between the evangelicals and fiscal conservatives.

how much money did he make from his last run? must have been pretty good

If Santorum won the GOP general election nomination, I suspect whoever the Democratic nominee were would win by a Reaganesque landslide.

Both of these.

Colbert got it right.  Paraphrasing: "You're amazing because you truly speak from the heart.  And you speak to not enough voters to actually win."

I'll go ahead and make my guess that he is going to win the nomination in 2016.

He really gave Romney a run at the end and Romney outspent him by 5x in some states.

Not sure.  The amount of mental energy I expend on Santorum is nearing the Planck scale.

But it might be fun to see him and Huckabee try to out-pious-asshole each other during the primaries.

"So, Governor...you're against abortion even in the case of rape?  Well *I* think women should be forcibly impregnated by the criminally insane!"

Well, yes, but there are many losers each primary season, but only one runner-up candidate. He gets the nomination the next time, at least recently.

But seriously, it's barely 2014, can we relax for at least another year?

Any mention of Frothy requires this song :

Ooooooohhhhh,
Frothy the snowman,
Was as flaming right wing soul,
With a tricorn hat,
And a campaign button nose,
And two eyes made of coal (the 100% clean energy source).
Frothy the Snowman,
Is a fairytale they say,
He was made of Santorum,
But the kids adore him,
Because he came to life one day.
There must have been some magic in that lubricant they found,
Because when they placed it on his crotch, he began to jump around.
Frothy the Snowman, had a mad gleam in his eye.
He looked about and started to pout because liberals he did spy.

Frothy the Snowman, hated liberals a ton, so he and the children made it their mission to go to Washington!
They marched through the town, angry as angry could be, with their homemade signs they said they stood for public morality.
Frothy the Snowman, went to the rest stop. He had a wide stance and if he had glanced, would have seen a cop!
Frothy the Snowman, was convicted of indecency. And all the while, throughout the trial, he claimed he just needed to pee.

Sadly, I don't have enough faith in the intelligence of my fellow Americans to agree with this prediction.  He'll lose by a lot, for sure, but he'll still get all of the South, most of the Plains states, and maybe even one or two in the Midwest.

If Rick Santorum's chances of becoming president are even slightly above zero, it's still too big of a chance for me to be comfortable with.

Democrats are becoming far, far too complacent about winning in 2016.

Republican Presidential Primaries

2000 - Bush 1st, McCain 2nd
2008 - McCain 1st, Romney 2nd
2012 - Romney 1st, Santorum 2nd
2016 - Santorum 1st, the crud growing between Marco Rubio's toes 2nd

Rick Santorum  is a filthy hypocritical asshole that needs to leave the country and throw him self at the mercy of the Taliban. He would make a great Taliban leader. He and they believe in the same core values.
Please run, you farking asshole. Run to another country and farking fertilize the soil with your frothy, brown fecundity. Fertilize teh sands of the Yemeni desert with your farked up conservative bullshait. they love your kind over there. Move to a country where it's the norm to tell women to be subservient and to bow to their male masters. Just get the fark our of the USA, you flatulant asshole. Go Join Al Queda. They love your kind.
Farking pig. I hope he does run, because this nation has a few new voters out there who are just about sick and tired of hearing his diatribe. I'd love to see some new voters rip him a whole new, brown, frothy asshole right in front of a live, television audience. He needs to go back to the fakring stone age where his farking farked up "values" come from.

It goes back even farther, as long as you accept a slight rule revision. Buchanan should have been the GOP nominee in 2000 according to his 1996 finish, but instead was the nominee of the Reform party. So he did still appear on the 2000 ticket.

1976 - Ford 1st, Reagan 2nd
1980 - Reagan 1st, Bush Sr. 2nd.
1988 - Bush Sr. 1st, Dole 2nd.
1996 - Dole 1st, Buchanan 2nd

See above. People who come in 2nd in the GOP primary are almost always the next open primary's winner.

Santorum's views are so outside mainstream America that I doubt he could wrap himself in a big enough flag or carry a big enough cross to win the White House, let alone the nomination.

He's a relic.

Right now he does have a new book to sell, New Rick Santorum book out in April
http://www.politico.com/story/2014/01/rick-santorum-book-102150.html

and he probably wants to promote the Christian movie company he heads.

He doesn't seem as transparently crass as Gingrich who regarded being a candidate as primarily a money making opportunity, though it is hard to separate out how much is self promotion or if he realizes he has no chance..

FWIW, I'm getting known as "that creepy guy who really likes income inequality", and I'd vote for Elizabeth Warren over that pre-Enlightenment farkhead.

/Basically, real GDP/capita went from $25K to $50K since 1975, and after-tax GINI went from .316 to .378 since 1975.  So if we assume that ALL that inequality went to the 1%, and everyone else stayed in the same relative spot, we find that they currently have about an extra 10% of GDP.  So burn that and (personal.  There's some serious issues with the collapse of the poor family leading to increased household inequality) inequality is exactly the same as it was 40 years ago, but we're at $45K GDP/capita.  So in the last 40 years, the average American has seen a doubling of lifestyles.
//So if cell phones and computers and Skype are worth $5K/year to you, you like our current degree of income inequality.
///Now if you want to have a chat about how the upper-middle class is developing their own separate culture, segregating themselves into neighborhood enclaves, and how most of them have NEVER interacted with poor people, or how the poor working-class culture and family structure is completely farked, or how inner-city schools are screwed up, we can have that chat (and those are all chats that we should be having), but we're not THAT more unequal in pure after-tax income terms, and I remain unconvinced that shoving even more free money in their direction will fix the noted pathologies in their culture that are condemning them to poverty cycles.

No, really. That motherfarker says he was told something by god?
Make him show his farking god in a court of law, or by shiat, lock his loony ass up.
We don't need a bunch of crazies running around. those people shoot up schools and shait.
