And a salary for your friends.

No.

Dude, I steal the Doctor Who episodes written by Neil Gaiman so that Amanda Palmer never sees a cent from me.

Farkus must be broken.

I need a car.

Or a truck, to tow the boat.

Either way

Oh, just have Amanda Palmer mention it in a tweet and you'll probably get your funding in a day.  Her fans will do anything for her.

I actually just saw "Day of the Dead" for the first time last week.  It's better than all the other dreck in Season 5 so far.  Some actual backstory for the captain and some great callbacks to the earlier, better seasons (in particular, Morden).

I mean, I can understand hating on the episode for bringing a fantasy concept into a hard sci-fi world.  Explain it away as a mass hallucination if it bothers you.

My only gripe is that they didn't bring back Zathras.  But nobody listens...

Well maybe if this marketing crap weren't posted on the main page the non "geek" types wouldn't be asking why we should give a shait about this guy and his sad nerd crushes.

I'm guessing it's because it made the main page instead of Farkus.

As a musician I believe Amanda Palmer can burn in hell.

If after years of slogging it out in bars and crappy venues you can't find it in your pockets to pay those who are coming out to work for you then you didn't play enough crappy bars to deserve your notoriety.

Burn in hell.

Jesus, I'm as cynical as the next guy and hate a lot of the plugging that goes on here, but I can't join in on pissing on this. It's a creative project (albeit useless, but when did that ever stop anyone), novel, and its target demographic is right in Fark's wheelhouse (even assuming the Drew reference is a joke).

I'm not likely to donate -- it's not my kind of thing -- but it's a million times better than the "fund my 10K"/"vote for me in this contest"/"subscribe to my lame comedy videos" crap than is the norm around here.

/mainpage, though, Admins?

Who?

2014-01-28 11:53:19 AM
The Zach Braff movie that he sold at Sundance will be an interesting case study in the future of Kickstarter funded projects.  He asked people to help fund it with an implied promise that there would be a return on investment for people at a certain level of donation, although not stated in fact during the begging/funding period.  He sold the movie for more than it cost to make and there has not been a peep from him on if he will reimburse the people that he asked to help fund it.

Mr-Wunderful: This digital panhandling nonsense is getting old.

In some respects, yes.

But I've a couple friends going through massive medical issues right now, and I'd love to pimp their fundraisers out on FARK, but I don't think they'd get green-lit.

My first thought was "Amanda Palmer? Wasn't she the dead girl from Twin Peaks? What's so geeky about that character?" I had to Google the name and learned two things: One, the murder victim in Twin Peaks was Laura Palmer, and two, Amanda Palmer sounds like the kind of person who'd be really disappointed that I had to look her up to find out who she is.

Hey, you don't know me either, lady. I see no reason either one of us should want the other's picture.

/and while I'm sure Drew's a fun guy, I don't want his picture either. How the hell can I masturbate to that?

I didn't know who the Dresden Dolls were before now, but I gotta say, it's like listening to a discordant version of Garbage.

After reading her Wikipedia entry, the only thing I understand is that she's married to Neil Gaiman. The rest may as well have been in Greek.

Go with a lower-case 'g' and I'm in agreement.

I have fond memories of going to strip clubs when "Garbage" was big and boy, something about those with "daddy issues" were attracted to that music like magnet!

It should be possible to vote against a Kickstarter project. Then if it fails, they have to pay you for wasting your time reading it.

/I think I'll start a Kickstarter project to have it implemented!

Aw come on, dial it back a little. The guy just wants to make a living doing what he's good at. I don't fault him for that. I'm not personally interested in collecting Internet rogue's gallery mugshots, but I might pick up a set of his cards if they focused on a topic more to my liking.

Well, if I still collected cards, that is. Nowadays I prefer digital image sets. Much easier to store and look through.

Hi. I am a friend of Len. I am a lurker on Fark.Com and have been for years. I was pleased to see the post about his KickStarter page.

I would like to defend Len here for a second since I feel like I am in the position of "I know him."

First, no I am not one of his friends who is getting money from his projects.

Second, this is no hobby for Len. If I had his talent and mind for business I would pursue the same path he is on.

Third, Len is neither begging nor getting rich. He is simply trying to make a living at what he loves and provide for his wife and kids.

But, I can understand why someone may get tiffed by seeing something that looks like a sponsored ad in the main stream of Fark. I get it. I'm the same way. But no sense in bashing Len for doing his living when he didn't even post the thing.

I still love all the Farkles.

Brian

The big deal is that projects like this are slowing ruining kickstarter as a whole.

The beauty of kickstarter is that it allowed people to create truly innovative products that actually made the world just a little bit better. As the site gets swamped with more and more people looking for easy money, the ideas with real potential get lost or ignored.

Amanda Palmer is a nerd?

People call themselves nerds because it has some hipster cache to it. I remember real nerds at the Houston Area Apple users Group in the 90's. And believe me, those people were the pocket protector greasy hair types. Scary nerds!

Well, crap. That kills my idea of rolling you guys for enough Kickstarter bucks to build the Temporal Displacement *ssy Machine so you can go back in Time .. for all the great girls you knew back when but had no sense how to reel 'em in.

At least this project is better than the ones saying "I want to create a documentary on the Hawaiian Islands. I need money for airfare, a hotel, rental car, and a video camera."

I'll give you 40 gajillion dollars to make that dream a reality. Just make sure the first trip you take is going back in time to give me the financial advice I'll need to have that 40 gajillion dollars.

Or maybe that should be your second trip. Your first trip will have to involve radically changing our numbering system so that "gajillion" is a legitimate amount. You might also have to alter our monetary system, as that amount of cash may not actually exist right now.

You know what? This all sounds like an awful lot of trouble. Why don't I just give you a thumbs up and a cheery "Good luck!" instead?
