Joke's on them. Apart from a McD's on M between 19 & 20 and a BK on Conn Ave (just north of the zoo), I know of no "fast food" joints in the city. I assume there are more, but they're gonna have a hard time finding "real food" in a sea of "fair-trade lamb burger on a toasted sesame seed whole-wheat bun with a mint-curry aioli and arugula".


I learned this when I had a desire for "food" (technically, it is) from Arby's while visiting the city for the Reason Rally. Satisfying that desire required taking the Metro to a mall in Virginia.

I'd like to think that if I were ever made omnipotent and omniscient I retain sufficient amount of myself not to control things.  Maybe only step in if all of civilization is at stake or species survival.  Otherwise let people behave of their own will.

Yes on divine mandate.  Free will on my decisions.

And since you seem excited about painting me into a dullard's trap: I don't believe God is my personal caretaker.  A divine omnipotence has bigger worries, in my view, and besides: two beings possessed of free will will necessarily contradict each other in the context of limited resources.  It's contradictory to believe that God can both grant free will and personal wishes and have us all share resources.

Okay, now I'm getting into obnoxious theological bullshiat, but power that your own decisions predestines you to not use is power you don't have.  It's not omnipotence.  We're talking about control of literally everything.  It's an absurd concept, one rising out of "my god is better than your god" topperism.  The concept isn't even actually from the bible itself, but came about in the first eras of apologetics, wherein early Christian academics tried to unite their beliefs within a mentally neat philosophical system.

The concept you're defending here isn't even fundamental to your faith, according to its own holy book.

I'm not raising objections to free will existing.  I'm raising objections to the contradicting assertions that the results of your decisions are manifest as god's will(such as in the stone's location) and that these people being dipshiats somehow not being the same when they claim that.

Really I think it's because they don't know the difference between the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and they think that the line "that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government" applies to them. Of course, they ignore the whole "list of grievances" thing, and the line right after which says "Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes," but dammit, if violent secession from the current government was good enough for the Forefathers, that means it has to be the right way to do things.


In all fairness? "they" (tea party freepers - or "anti-rino" freepers) are surprisingly verbose and open about their desires to have a Constitutional Convention. These threads tend to be large, supportive of the idea and some contain a "working" idea on how to get the support needed by way of electing local and state candidates - the premise being anyone who gets to washington, no matter how conservative they seem to be, fold once there.
After reading one such freeper thread I came here to ask smarter folk what the point would be for a "Con-Con" and there were some really good replies.
I've no idea if "real patriots" as a body could ever force this to happen, or what their real, workable agenda would be (if any) - but it is a mistake to assume they are ALL addled hoverround jockeys intent only on derping. That so many remain ill-informed gives me hope but even among the most benighted group some few are "idea" people. They also seem to be the ones out of the fray when things go bad.
