It occurred to me while responding in another thread:

The Constitution allows The People (in the form of their state governments) to call Constitutional Conventions, yes? So why have we skipped the remedies made available by the Constitution and gone right to "armed insurrection" which is explicitly NOT allowed by the Constitution?

And why are they claiming they're "protecting" the Constitution by staging a coup (complete with show trials for the old government by the new "ruling party") to rework it? Is no one eloquent or well-read enough to say "We have to burn the village down to save it"?

ugh.  the traffic here is bad enough already.  also, the area right outside the city isn't exactly rife with campgrounds and RV parks.


Given how well-attended previous efforts like this have been, I doubt they'll have any noticeable effect on traffic.  Or anything else, for that matter.

The tricky part there is the two-thirds bar. I can't see 34 states agreeing to call a convention. And no, they're not aware of the historical comparisons or context of their actions.

And to get even closer to the source, Jesus said "Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God".  By 'what belongs to Caesar', Jesus was referring specifically to government-issued currency.  He was a little more vague about what belongs to God, but I think the general consensus is that God gives us all life.

Why don't people use Mark 12:17 more often against God-fearing Taxed Enough Already party patriots?

Really I think it's because they don't know the difference between the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and they think that the line "that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government" applies to them. Of course, they ignore the whole "list of grievances" thing, and the line right after which says "Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes," but dammit, if violent secession from the current government was good enough for the Forefathers, that means it has to be the right way to do things.

The funny part is they are estimating they will get between 10-30 million people.

They seem to seriously(?) think they will get 10% of the population to descend on DC. If they somehow managed to get 30 million extra people in DC, and cram them into the park spaces, you'd have someone spaced out every 2 feet or so (rough calcs).

Tell ya what, I was in Rome in 2000 for the World Youth Day. Tons of activities, festivities, and oh, yeah, the Pope. They got an extra 1-2 million people in the city for that (and this is from 1 Billion catholics world-wide). I think the Pope has a slightly higher draw than these guys.

You are thinking of the march in 2009, which attracted a very successful crowd, as shown in the picture below:

Then the more stubborn liberals in the media tried to dispute that picture with typically liberally-biased facts, such as the fact that the weather in the District of Columbia was overcast throughout the day of the rally, or the fact that the National Museum of the American Indian, which opened in 2004, should have been visible in a picture of that area taken in 2009.
