Duh. They're the Puppeteer Worlds heading out to avoid the Core Explosion.

My pleasure. It's either that or they don't want to be part of Milkdromeda and are leaving early while the getting's good.

While the getting is good? I thought they were leaving now because they are afraid to go faster and want to arrive after humans have set up a new civilisation with an established market for Puppeteer products?

Sorry, I had in mind two scenarios: one, the Puppeteer Fleet of Worlds; two, a group of stars that decided they didn't want to be part of the merger of Andromeda and the Milky Way and packed up their shiat.

Maybe their departments would be redundant after the merger, so they were let go in advance?

Except the Puppeteer Fleet of Worlds didn't take their star with them. Did the Outsiders contract similarly with someone else? Or did someone independently develop a variant on the drive capable of flinging not just planets about, but entire stars?

On the other hand, these things are doing a mere 0.3% c, compared to circa 80% c for the Fleet of Worlds.
