Well, now we know where the line is: thou shalt not slag Coke or Pepsi, upstart. Huh. That wasn't the reason I thought it was either. She's been getting some heat because it's an Israeli company based in the West Bank and that's apparently put her at odds with, among others, amFAR, an organization she's worked with for some time. I didn't think that would rise to getting their commercial banned so this makes more sense. In a cynical, deepest pockets sort of way.

Well, even politely slamming two companies that spend billions of dollars on advertising each year is not a risk some networks would risk taking.  Coke can slam Pepsi, but that means Pepsi will spend likewise to slam Coke and probably on the same network.  Win-win for the network there, but not for some two-bit operation with a MUCH smaller marketing budget.

Hasn't this same thing happened before during other Super Bowls on multiple occasions? Is it a publicity stunt or something?

Blood bubbles.

2014-01-28 12:24:17 AM
Bulls hit.

The reason it's "banned" is because SodaStream isn't buying any airtime and playing up a fake story about it being "banned" and getting a ton of publicity for it.

They did exactly the same thing last year.

Welcome to the age of creating fake outrage used to generate viral video viewing.

THIS is what disappoints the CEO about being an American?

2014-01-28 12:24:26 AM
Isn't Pepsi an Official Sponsor that pays big money to the NFL? I can see an organization not wanting to piss off a major advertiser, without resorting to an "I thought this was America, land of the free" rhetoric.

2014-01-28 12:27:16 AM
Which advertiser in America doesn't mention a competitor?

I thought it was marketing 101 not to mention your competitors if your brand is the top selling whatever?

2014-01-28 12:27:33 AM
What the hell? We had a CO2 seltzer bottle 50 years ago when I was a kid. Is plaid back in too? Duncan tops? Yoyos?  Geez....

2014-01-28 12:29:30 AM
and this is surprising to...?
do you think companies that have endorsement contracts with kobe bryant are going to pay millions of dollars to air commercials on networks that bring up his rape accusations?

I have a stream for her, if you catch my drift, and I think you do.

Oh, please.  What's going to happen?  Coke and Pepsi boycott the Super Bowl?

Well, it's not like Soda Stream is top selling...but I still probably wouldnt call out competitors. You're doing name recognition advertising for them.

I had to drink RC cola at the last Rams game I went to, because seriously noon is too early for me to pay 8 bucks for a beer.  Where was the NFL to make sure I got my Coke or Pepsi for an outrageous itself price then?

2014-01-28 12:32:34 AM
AKA Too cheap to pay for adtime.

2014-01-28 12:33:19 AM
I am very disappoint in this product.  I had this image in my mind of it working differently.  Apparently, you could achieve the same effect with a bottle of seltzer water and any random flavoring to add to it.  I guess I thought you put the flavoring in first, then something about the carbonation process made it more specialer.  I suppose the drink fountains at McDonalds probably work the same way.  Oh well...another thing I don't need to buy.

2014-01-28 12:33:48 AM
"What are they afraid of?" asks Birnbaum. "Which advertiser in America doesn't mention a competitor? This is the kind of stuff that happens in China. I'm disappointed as an American."

Me Chinee. Me make joke. Me ban your commercial because you disparage our Coke.

We had Fizzies. They were awesome.

The Sodastream CEO agrees with you, but only a little bit.  He says the network made them edit the commercials they wanted to show.

Reminds me of the old Sega commercials that kept dissing on Nintendo for being 'too slow'.

2014-01-28 12:39:18 AM
Forget the banning for a minute and just look at the commercial itself:

It's kind of lame, right? Any commercial that has to beg to go viral is just sad. And she doesn't do anything racy at all. Pepsi's Cindy Crawford commercial from 20 years was far sexier than this stupid thing.

Today I learned you get more clicks by using an emotional word like banned to refer to what sounds like a simple refusal.

Had?  farking heathen.  I have to hunt and search high and low to find RC anywhere around here.

Hell compare it to the Two Broke Girls commercial last year.

If you're going this route for publicity at least make it worth our while.

I am disappoint.

If you want to pay me 5 bucks for an RC Cola I'll gladly mail you one.

Ya BS. There have been stories for the last couple of weeks about this. Just be honest. Has nothing to do with coke or Pepsi.

2014-01-28 12:52:01 AM
Yeah, I don't believe this story for one millisecond, mostly because every Sodastream I've ever tried tasted like ass. And not the good ass, either. Putrid, festering ass that's been left out in the sweaty sunshine for a week. Blue cheese ass.

It's like this:

* Real soda

* Generic soda

The pre-packaged mixes may suck but... and this is an important but, with a seltzer bottle you can make some amazing beverages that would beat the big 2 soda companies hands down. The trick is to use powdered sugar, not granulated, and to go bold in the flavors.

/and Fizzies rocked

What bullshiat. Coke and Pepsi can mention each other and show their competitors' products in their own ads, though... Fark them, and fark the Super Bowl pussies.

That being said, that SodaStream tastes like ass, anyway, so this is probably in all of our best interests.

As long as it gets her closer to doing a "tastefully nude" photo spread for Playboy in an attempt to revive her career, I'm not unhappy.

Stopped watching as soon as I realized she wouldn't be showing her tits.

Sensationalism 101. Acting overly dramatic gets people's attention. In this case, falsely claiming their ad was "banned" borders on playing the victim, which also gets people's attention and adds in some sympathy points from gullible viewers.
