They just cut holes in the bottom and used their feet to propel them.

Yeah, Civil War reenactments can almost be as bad as Renfairs when it comes to historical accuracy.

Strange, Wikipedia doesn't have an entry for the Battle of Centralia, but they do have one for the Centralia Massacre, where the confederate irregulars (including Jesse James) captured a bunch of unarmed union soldiers, then murdered them.

The South would never exaggerate something from The Civil War, if there is a discrepancy it is surely Northerners neutering history. You must be mistaken.

Read the wiki; it includes the "battle." 155 raw federal troops tried to fight Bloody Bill Anderson's 80 hardened murderers, using single-shot carbines against shotguns and Colt revolvers. They killed a few guerillas with their first volley, but then broke and ran and were nearly all killed. More of a skirmish than a battle; a company-level action like that wouldn't even rate a historic marker in Tennessee or Virginia.

Doesn't matter.  Cannons are awesome.  Everyone should have one.  Mine is a 3" bore, 6 caliber mortar.  I can send a 1 lb can of cement over 300 yards with just an ounce of 1F black powder.

A full reenactment of the Battle of Centralia is scheduled to take place September 13th and 14th with soldiers in period uniforms, horses, and a tent encampment. City Administrator Lynn Behrns tells centralmoinfo.com the preparations are already underway.

Was this the article? The company web guards threw up a Facebook block but since I agreed not to besmirch the good name of Freedom Coal and People Killer Chemicals, they let me pass. But that's all I got. I didn't see nuttin about Cannons, Mannix or even James Rockford.

Wow. Centralia MO, my hometown, makes FARK for the first time and of course it is something like this.
The battle and massacre were two distinctly different episodes in the same set of skirmishes. Best known for the atrocities of the massacre and the legend that Jesse James killed his first man at the battle.

They didn't, it was Grant that was always tanked.

I thought the Battle of Centralia was fought against a coal mine fire.

2014-01-27 03:52:25 PM
A Sherman is great at Tier V, but a bit of a 'generalist' tank.  I think I'd rather have a Pz III/IV to dance around the enemy formations, or the ELC AMX just to mess them up.  Or, just go with a StugIII and snipe everything.
