IF black holes don't exist, THEN evolution and climate change don't exist.

Makes perfect sense.

then she should stop seeing her doctor immediately.  since all science is a load of crap anyway, she doesn't need to rely on medical science to keep her alive.

I'm pretty sure The Borowitz Report is satire.

The Republicans need to get smarter people like, I don't know, Justin Bieber?

"Going forward, members of the House Science Committee will do our best to avoid listening to scientists."

Those guys at The Onion always crack me up.

Satire tag, genius.

The only black holes Michele understands are the ones deep within in her husband's psyche that he retreats into every time he has to pretend to enjoy farking her.

Who the fark can tell anymore??

Even if true, it wouldn't even break the top 100 stupidest things that Michelle Bachmann has said.

Satire should be funny, not indistinguishable from reality.

They're evangelical Christians. Neither one of them is even allowed to enjoy sex.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Michelle Bachmann is satire.

Holy crap.  I think that's the first time I didn't recognize something stupid a republican supposedly said as satire.  I literally didn't think twice, after reading the article, before thinking, Yeah, makes sense she'd say that.

It was only when I read the "Kim Jong-un: Bieber Just a Few Arrests from Being My Friend" link at the bottom that I went, "Wait a minute..."

Well shiate, that fooled me!!  I didn't realize it was satire until reading the comments.  Pretty sad when you're political beliefs are indistinguishable from satire.

I knew it was satire before I even clicked the link.

Aww, crap. I got fooled. Satire is best when you mistake it for the real deal.

I was briefly fooled :(

I almost bought it...only because comments like that are entirely plausible from the GOP these days, and are standard fare for the Tea Party.  Thanks, NY for the hashtag at the end to alert me.....

my eyes bulged reading the headline. And I double face palmed after reading a couple sentences of the article.

f*ck.

This really is satire, yes?  I cannot tell any more.

I don't mind crazy people having a platform before the public. Man has always cherished the crazy for entertainment. I just wish there was a warning label or something so the public would know that it's for entertainment purposes only.

2014-01-27 11:56:03 AM
When you use Bachmann in your satire piece, it takes people a while to understand that it's satire and not just Bachmann being an idiot...again.

2014-01-27 11:56:40 AM
I know it's satire... but, Hawking's recent statement is that the classical notion of a black hole (an event horizon exists from which nothing can escape) is wrong.  Further refinement of the theory shows that information CAN escape from a black hole.

That is all.

2014-01-27 11:57:35 AM
Count me in the "Satire shouldn't just be barely distinguishable from reality." This is something I would actually expect Bachmann to say, it isn't a big enough exaggeration of her position.

For the curious, Hawking did say that black holes were his greatest blunder, but not because they don't exist, but rather that some light may be able to escape them.

Hawking seems to have spent much of his career repeatedly overturning the last stunning breakthrough that he proved, replacing it with an even more stunning breakthrough. We may not know any more answers about black holes than we did when we started, but we are confused on a much higher and better informed level.

The fact that many liberals cannot distinguish satire from reality and will read something and take it at face value is the saddest part.

/waiting for  all my liberal friends to post the article to facebook, and watch the chourus of idiots post replies that make a racist redneck look like a scholar.

i actually went to verify that it was satire before i actually believed it was satire.

borowitz needs to make his satire more clearly obvious than the normal GOP crazyness.

This can't possibly be real.  No way.

Dr. Stephen Hawking's recent statement that the black holes he famously described do not actually exist underscores "the danger inherent in listening to scientists," Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minnesota) said today.

Except that is NOT what he said.

The article being satire doesn't change the fact that this isn't what he said. Otherwise, this is hilarious.
