"Well, Bob, with all due respect, I don't agree with the premise of your question," Cruz replied. "Throughout the government shutdown, I opposed a government shutdown. I said we shouldn't shut the government down. I think it was a mistake that President Obama and the Democrats shut the government down this fall."

If Senator Ted Cruz swallowed a nail he's probably shiat out a corkscrew an hour later.

Everybody with half a brain who had even one eye open during that whole debacle knows that it was Cruz and his teatarded cohorts demanding that they stand together and threaten to shut down the government unless they could (after umpteen failed prior attempts) defund, derail, or at least weaken the ACA aka Obamacare.

It was a massive game of chicken they played. Played and lost.

This shiat may go down a right treat at TP derpfest love-ins but not on a national level.

Good on Scheiffer for laughing in Ted's eminently punchable face.

Dude, that is COMPLETELY unfair.

Rats can make loving, intelligent, and impressively affectionate pets. Hell, you can even train them to scramble off you and back into their cage when they need to go to the bathroom.

Seriously, comparing them to Ted Cruz? That's just low, man.

Tyee: What branch of the federal government has the responsibility of appropriating and authorizing the funding for the federal government?

The federal government was designed to have the house in charge of the money for good reason.

That's fundamentally false.  The constitution does not say the house is in charge of the money.  The constitution very clearly demands that the Senate, House and POTUS must all agree and if they do not agree, there are ways to overrule the POTUS.  There is no way to overrule the Senate, which means the House and Senate are equally in charge.

The only thing the Constitution did was design this process to BEGIN in the House.

It would have been exceptionally simple to write the Constitution to give the House sole power over the purse strings.  It did not.

Section 7.
All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate
in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.
Every Bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a Law, be presented to the President of the United States; If he approve he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it, with his Objections to that House in which it shall have originated, who shall enter the Objections at large on their Journal, and proceed to reconsider it. If after such Reconsideration two thirds of that House shall agree to pass the Bill, it shall be sent, together with the Objections, to the other House, by which it shall likewise be reconsidered, and if approved by two thirds of that House, it shall become a Law.

The best part is you mocked people to think back to 6th grade, and then you proceeded to demonstrate your own fundamental misunderstanding of the Constitution.  Are you currently in 5th grade?  Because by your own metric, you're stupider than a 6th grader.

Is it not the House's job to appropriate funds?

Yes, it is.

Are they Is the Senate not an equal arm of, and check on government?

Why, yes! Yes, it is!

You're wrong.  Own it.

Tyee: Deucednuisance: He's right, and you're wrong about the whole Separation of Powers thing.

How so?  Is it not the House's job to appropriate funds?  Are they not an equal arm of, and check on government?  Are they obligated constitutionally rubberstamp the spending wishes of the other house and branches of government?

This is the separate power delegated to the house of reps.

Well, you apparently think the Senate (or the President, for that matter) is obligated constitutionally to rubberstamp the spending wishes of the House.

I love that the narrative from the Right Wing clowns has gone from "Yay! Government Shutdown!! People Won't even notice!!", to, "Both sides are responsible!!" now that most polls are showing most folks lie the blame for the shut down squarely at the feet of the GOP.

It's the kind of honesty I've come to expect from our brave independent boot-strapping individuals...

Tyee: What branch of the federal government has the responsibility of appropriating and authorizing the funding for the federal government?  Think back to 6th grade civics.

See, you should have learned something past the sixth grade level.  Or are you saying that no matter how destructive or ridiculous the House's plan for "appropriating and authorizing the funding for the federal government" is, the other two branches should just rubber stamp it because the House said so?

Checks and balances.  I think that's covered in 7th grade.  With a little luck, I think you just might make it!

Nah... You stated it was "Improperly" used. You explained nothing, except for the partisan fantasy land you apparently live in.

I'm left wondering why the only thing worth their attempting a rebuttal for was this minor "Democrat" vs "Democratic" bit rather than the more substantial points raised by Wake Up Sheeple, for instance.

We were done for the day and he came back to the hotel he was staying at and we were sitting in the bar.  He saw we noticed him and came over to our table and talked with us for a good half hour.  Nicest person you'd ever want to meet. The man has witnessed so much history and he shared some great stories.  We've met a ton of politicians and news people up there over the years and we've got some awesome stories, but he stands above them all.

Let's not forget, this is the intellectual powerhouse that is supposed to be the future of conservative politics.  How a debt that cannot be incurred without Congressional approval, including the Republican controlled House, is the sole province of the President is a question he should be asked every time he starts with this line of BS.
