fta Economists say having a job may no longer be enough for self-sufficiency in today's economy.

Those lazy poors should choose to be the bootstrappy rich

2014-01-26 01:14:31 PM
Thanks Obama.

2014-01-26 01:14:35 PM
We've failed as a country when having a job won't even give you enough to eat.

2014-01-26 01:14:35 PM
Thanks GOP.

2014-01-26 01:15:00 PM
To be fair, it's not all Obama's fault. His corporate welfare policy doesn't help though.

2014-01-26 01:15:01 PM
You misspelled "John Boehner."

2014-01-26 01:15:15 PM
In the GOP's America, anyone with a refrigerator just isn't poor enough.

2014-01-26 01:19:55 PM
Blame whomever you want, this America is now officially as pathetic as any other "loser" country that we ever mocked all these past few decades.

All a job means is that you can pay some bills; having a job ceased to be the keys to the American dream of home ownership and stability in and of itself long ago, but we all know that.

Fark blaming someone, let's try to address the fact that inflation is making a mockery of any savings to be had anywhere.

Scrap food stamps in favor of food centers that can provide 3 meals a day and employ people.

2014-01-26 01:20:37 PM
Uh, "children and the elderly were the main recipients" of food stamps?  What?

I'm pretty sure children don't get food stamps.  Now, if you wanted to say families with children were the main recipients, you might be on to something.

But I don't think eight year olds are strolling into social services and filling out food stamp applications.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

The Great Republican Recession strikes again.

2014-01-26 01:21:21 PM
In the spirit of compromise, I think we should all put our partisan differences aside and unanimously agree that Obama sucks.

2014-01-26 01:21:29 PM
The times I've seen people using food stamps (or that food stamp stored value card) at the supermarket they were almost always appeared to be working age.  Just saying.

EmmaLou: We've failed as a country when having a job won't even give you enough to eat.

Oooooooh boy, we failed as a country loooong before this. This country has, always was and will be, about enriching a few at the expense of others, albeit it poor whites, immigrants, prisoners, slaves, all whether they live in America or not. Progress and wealth was built on the backs of prisoners, the lives of slaves, the limbs of children and the torture of workers, men and women alike. And it was by design.

Our current situation is just the continuation of the process as it began.

Don't you dare let anybody ever tell you any different.

Since we are determined to be a minimum wage nation, we should make the minimum wage $20/hr.

You are of course correct. Working age people without disabilities , especially men are not sympathetic.

It should really be higher, but try to make that argument, all you will hear is how it will cause more unemployment, so why not pay people thousands per hour.

B... but soshulizms?

I'm sure someone will come in to tell us this is the fault of people who get liberal arts degrees. And not enough tax cuts for the wealthy.

Buying lobster for their refrigerators, no doubt.

2014-01-26 01:28:53 PM
Yes, this is all Obama's fault.

The CEO's of megacorporations like Wal-Mart and McDonalds who spend hundreds of millions lobbying against a higher minimum wage so that they can continue to happily outsource a good chunk of their payroll expenses to the government certainly share none of the blame.

The hallowed 'Job Creators' who are enjoying unprecedented levels of wealth growth while cutting pay, benefits, and jobs are certainly above reproach.

It's obvious the problem is that we haven't drug tested, cut benefits to, or shamed the poor enough.  Don't they know that if they simply supplicate themselves before the wealthy that their golden showers will trickle down any day now?

What other proof do we need?

They found a way to game the system by working the bare minimum and have others pay for their food. Sounds like a boomer maneuver.

Reread that passage. Working adults make up the majority of families receiving SNAP.

Yes, because of all the decisions and policies that gwbush implemented which 100's upon 100's of economists explained would be disastrous for years to come, have NOTHING to do with our situation today.

As an incorrigible libtard, I also support free college and trade school, free school breakfasts and lunches and take-home bags of fresh fruits and vegetables, universal healthcare including dental, visual, and mental health, etc, etc, etc. I really am beyond all hope.

Would cost less and actually ensure children got the food. The working age adults don't seem to be getting the job done

Precisely. When even Taco Bell (the cheap of cheap fast food) happily marches up the prices while wages stagnate, well, people are gonna have a harder time buying off the menu.

And McDonalds, which also used to be pretty damn cheap, well...about that...

Hey. farkers!  How's all this hope and change crap workin' out fer ya?  Are you having fun paying $500 a month for health insurance with a $4500 deductible, when you are working for $8 an hour at Mickey D's, and paying off $50,000 in student loans?

Over/under is 3 posts before someone calls me a racist for saying this.

My first wish: That this will straighten itself out as politicians and the rich finally understand what they are doing to the country and the people in it. In lieu of this I wish that those that have chosen a life of crime would do the smart thing and stop victimizing each other. If the nation's murder victims were the rich, "job creators", and/or politicians you know the social problems would be fixed very quickly.

It's almost like the President and Senate can't force through the changes that we need when the House is still controlled by incorrigible ass-badgers whose only goal in life seems to be obstructing any kind of progress.

Sounds like another round of tax breaks for the rich are in order.

/Republican logic

From a similar article CNN ran:

"1. Workers are taking home their smallest slice of U.S. income on record: At around $15.8 trillion a year, the United States produces more in annual economic output than ever before, but it's not the worker that's benefiting. Instead, corporate profits now account for their largest slice of that pie on record, whereas the slice for workers has been steadily declining.
2. Inequality has widened: The recovery has been good to families earning more than $394,000 a year, but the other 99% of Americans have barely felt it. The richest 1% of American families have captured 95% of the income gains in the recovery period spanning 2009 to 2012, according to economists at the forefront of income inequality research, Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel Saez."

Obviously all the tax cuts for the rich, and all the union bashing have helped the middle class.

/this is why workers had unions. To prevent exactly this kind of thing from happening.
//maybe corporations need to remember Henry Ford's model?

That's funny, I didn't say I had one. And, are you pro-inflation or something?

My wacky idea is no corporate welfare and when the next votes come up to send more jobs to Mexico, India, China, ;et al come up, the reps vote "no."
