Speaking publicly on Friday for the first time since her husband's rescue attempt went wrong Monday evening, Emily Scholz said she learned he was dead -- and what he did -- when San Mateo County sheriff's deputies arrived at her doorstep that night to deliver the horrible news.

He leaves a widow? I call first dibs

You know, I normally really appreciate a good dig at hardware drivers.

Too soon, Fark. Too soon.

I hope his death wasn't too graphic.

If he was the guy responsible for all the 'fixes' in the recent drivers that screw with the surround support vs application maximizing across all monitors instead of just the one you want...then good...er well its too soon.  Good tomorrow.

2014-01-26 10:17:02 AM
Well, they did warn him that the drivers were in beta.

Farking hell, he was trying to save someone who refused to get off the tracks and caused both of them to get hit. Good on the guy trying help someone but too bad didn't have time to save himself after the other guy refused his help.

SO many people are going to hell for where this thread is going.

BumpInTheNight: If he was the guy responsible for all the 'fixes' in the recent drivers that screw with the surround support vs application maximizing across all monitors instead of just the one you want...then good...er well its too soon.  Good tomorrow.

lol. Well unfortunately both AMD and nVidia are guilty of application maximizing (AMD with giving top samples to reviewers while cards given out to consumers were less than quality with their fan design (thank G-d third party partners should fix that, hopefully and AMD should update their obsolete cooling fan solution very soon) and nVidia with their "partnerships" causing Microsoft not to require certain DirectX features on new graphics cards to work with newer Windows system because nVidia couldn't catch up to ATI.

I miss the old competition when everyone was trying to catch up to 3DFX and nVidia wasn't trying to sue 3DFX out of existence (which they eventually did, along with some dumb moves that 3DFX did to make their cards hard to buy [like eliminating third party vendors after buying STB]).

Depends on whether or not the train was built to take advantage of that, I'm finding an awful lot of trains that don't.  Meanwhile the whole incident could have been much more interesting if the train's engine supported physx!

Ah, yes, the KillTrain claims another person.

/why make this article about the poor guy who wanted to help? Let's make more infotainment about the person who wanted to kill themselves & advertise for more people to step in front of the train! Not that I'm a bitter occasional user of the KillTrain who has seen more than a few tarp-covered bundles next to temporarily single-tracked railways.

Probably not DC.

Third rail systems are usually 750V DC. It's overhead lines that are normally AC (usually 25kV). I've head of DC overhead lines, but not AC third rails, but I'm not an expert.

In this particular case the line doesn't seem to be electrified at all, it's all a bit moot anyway.

2014-01-26 05:34:53 PM
Why do I feel like the first guy on the tracks was probably trying to escape a market survey?

fredoralive:  In this particular case the line doesn't seem to be electrified at all, it's all a bit moot anyway.

KillTrain runs diesel-powered murder/mayhem assault vehicles.

They have been talking about electrification, but that's all tied up with the high speed rail boondoggle.

They also just recently did a huge renovation of the Santa Clara stop, which was involved in this unfortunate "trespasser on the tracks" incident. It used to be kind of dangerous, I guess, if you were totally not paying attention. Now, it takes some extra effort to get killed there.

A lot more than that, I would think.  The monorails at Disney World will pull upwards of 1500 amps @ 600 VDC from a standing start, and they're a lot lighter than city transit vehicles.  The zone breakers don't trip until around 6000 amps IIRC.
