I think it's just as likely that they're hedging their bets because they don't want some random copyright-troll-esque company buying up market.amazon, youtube.google etc. and causing a bunch of confusion and brand damage in the hope that Google and Amazon will pony up heaploads of money to have the domains transferred to them in order to stop the shenanigans.
