I was interested in this game.  Till it got caught in dev hell.  Now...it's going to have to get universally accepted praises as the second coming of christ's cock.

It's been delayed for over a year, swapped developers, etc.  It's going to suck shiat.  And I was super duper excited, couldn't wait.

It did not swap developers. It was being published by THQ, developed by Obsidian. THQ died, and someone else had to pick up publishing. While it was in limbo, I believe they kinda put it on the back burner, no sense making a game that won't be published. It has been delayed a couple of times, but as you can see, Matt and Trey genuinely give a shiat about whether or not the experience closely mimics the show.

I guess I can understand your hesitation. At the same time though, swapping developers and swapping publishers are two entirely different things.

Normally I'd pass over this but everything I'm seeing from it now looks totally tits, especially with the involvement level of Matt and Trey. I'll wait til reviews come out but I'm far more likely to pick this up.

Could be worse. Could've been an EA game.... *Stares at copies of SimCity and Battlefield 4 in the corner*

Obsidian?  Really?  Now I'm interested again, I usually like their stuff a lot.  Of course, given the way they quality-test and their usual amount of cut content, they probably should have just gone ahead and kept developing the game, but at least the dialogue and humor should be good.  Brutal Legend went through a lot of the same publisher issues and then some, and it turned out well, albeit not living up to its full potential.

I always dismissed the game when they advertised for it after episodes, but that video made me VERY interested.  Having Trey, Matt, and the South Park Studio seemingly so hands on involved is a great sign.  Of course, I'm not going to buy it unless it has good reviews, but I'm excited to see how it turns out.

Have you SEEN the gameplay video over on Kotaku?  This game is looking farking tits...and I don't say that often.  This game and The Witcher 3 have me excited enough that I told my wife I was dumping vacation time to take work off and wreck these games (she was...amused).

Never seen gameplay like that from the South Park game.  It gave me giggles.

If you say so.  A decent portion of console gamers (myself included) wait a year or so to buy the next gen.  It's usually the combination of a price drop and a library of "can't miss" games that finally draws us in.  I have a backlog of games for the PS3, but if this gets good reviews, I'm going to happily get it.  Besides, if that's what true gameplay looks like, I can't see the graphics improving significantly on the next gen.

I'd love to be wrong. Just, it's been 'being worked on' for a long time.  Anything that really just ferments like that tends to end up mediocre. I'm hoping I'm wrong, because I enjoy the show and, like I said, was very excited for the game.

They don't even have to write the show if they don't want to. It's not like Matt Groening has anything to do with the Simpsons but he still collects the checks. The fact that they still write everything and do all the voices is impressive enough to me. I don't need to whine because I don't think some guy isn't working hard enough for his money, what a childish thing to complain about.

But at least the makers of The Simpsons take the idea of a "Season" a lot more seriously than Trey does. All T&M do is shiat out a handful of episodes in an unpredictable fashion and call that a season.

If these two ran a  pizza shop, you'd have to wait til June for your delivery, which would be the crust on June 3rd, the sauce arriving on June 23rd, and the cheese in late October.

I'd have been inclined to think they pretty much just hung around hang gliding and collecting checks... if I hadn't seen the documentary last year about how they make those episodes.

Yeah, Parker and Stone earn their keep. I think it's obvious everyone in South Park Studios works hard. Well, to be more accurate... They don't work all that hard until they need to and then they work INSANELY hard to meet their deadlines once they're trying to pull it all together. That's just how it is when you're making cartoons that deal with subject matter that's often unfolding as they write them. That documentary feature was really interesting.

Yep.  Quite a few intended-to-be-THQ titles went through the same thing, were delayed due to THQ going out of business.  Saint's Row IV is the one I'm most familiar with, and that one even went through a little bit of development hell what with being originally an expansion and then being elevated to "full game".  It was released to good reviews and is a pretty solid game, despite the delay.  Same goes for Metro: Last Light, which was also delayed due to the THQ bankruptcy and also came out to great reviews.

Now does this mean the South Park game is going to be great?  No.  However, it means it's not guaranteed to suck.  I'll reserve judgement for when the game finally comes out.

You do realize that they storyboard, write, and script each episode in about a week, and also record about 85% of the voices used for said episode.

How many episodes they put out per season has little to do with anything.  Hell, I'd argue that what more shows need to do is put out less episodes, at least unless they have that many good ideas.  I'll happily watch 8-13 solid episodes per season instead of 22+ middling mediocre ones.

No dude. Vinnie here is the master of all things Television. He is THE ARBITER, and his word is law. If he says there are not enough South Park episodes per season to call it a season, the by god that show is farking worthless because we all know that the ONLY metric of success is filling a quota on number of shows per annum.

Please tell us oh wise and powerful Vinnie, how many episodes it takes per unit time to make a quality show, so that we may know and judge according to your whim.  Do more episodes than the minimum mean it's better? Or is it overstepping its bounds, and is that then worse, or better, than too few?  We need to know these things if we're to judge TV by your exacting standards!

The current season and next year are ten episodes each, down from South Park's usual 14. They're split into a two halves, rather than one full block of episodes.  How is that not a season? A number of other shows (Breaking Bad and Mad Men, for instance) do the exact same thing, and tons of shows (Family Guy is terrible for this) go two or three weeks between episodes simply because their timeslot is the one that gets preempted every time someone in Madagascar coughs, but they're presumably still airing a "season" at a time. No?

I'd prefer if Matt and Trey just did an episode every month so there's never any significant waiting. Hell, while I'm dreaming, let's eliminate seasons altogether and have every show do the same thing. Film them all as quick as you want, space them out all year, done.
