/been through chemo twice (melanoma). MJ helped quite a bit.

Personally I think medical marijuana should be legal everywhere. In fact, medical anything should be legal anywhere. If you have a medical condition and the only thing your doctor can prescribe to help is cocaine then let them prescribe it. They already prescribe worse drugs than this anyway. I just don't get it.

A must vote year? Good FSM, you should treat every significant election as 'must vote'.

/feel free to pass on voting for assistant dogcatcher

A toke every once in a while for medicinal purposes or to mellow out after work? Not my thing, but if you want to do it that's fine. The problem is that most people I've known who use it aren't that conservative with their usage, and they end up laying around for hours smoking it until they can only say stupid things that they think are deep, and giggle uncontrollably.

The potheads, just like full-blown alcoholics, are the easiest to see.  You likely know people who enjoy pot responsibly, but don't realize that they smoke at all.  The guys who fit the stereotypical stoner template are easy to see, the professionals who don't buy into the 'pot culture' image look just like everyone else, and don't go around wearing Bob Marley t-shirts so saturated with smoke that you get a contact high from standing next to them.

One of my best friends through high school found out that his parents smoked pot only after they told him after he turned 18.  I'd spent a lot of time at their house, he lived there, and neither of us had a clue.  They didn't walk around stoned during the day, didn't wake-and-bake, and didn't use it when minors were around and awake.  They held respectable jobs and were a completely normal middle class couple.

Most people who enjoy marijuana don't let it define them.  Basing your opinion of all pot smokers on potheads is the same as thinking that everyone who enjoys alcoholic beverages is like the wino who lives in a box in an alleyway.

I Like Shiny Things: I just walked in on my daughter toking up on a 6' grafx bong.

I have no idea what to do, so I thought it would be best to get on Fark and make a post about it.

Inform her that she should not bogart it, advise her to puff twice and then pass it.

Good. This was already a 'must vote' year for me to try to kick out Rick Scott, and getting to vote for medical marijuana will be a bonus.

I wish it was a full legalization measure, but medical is at least a step in the right direction.

ZeroCorpse: whidbey: I love how marijuana was made into a Schedule 1 class controlled substance by nutjobs like Harry Anslinger and paper product moguls like DuPont, but somehow there is still a morality stigma held by otherwise normal middle class people that pot is somehow wrong and you're stupid to smoke it.

Brilliant propaganda, or just ignorance?

Some of us base it on our fairly vast experience dealing with giggling, slacker pothead peers who can't do anything but smoke weed, talk about weed, and each snacks all day.

Yes, in my opinion, that makes  some people stupid to smoke it.

And there's also the smell. Some of us simply hate the smell and don't want to smell it in public. If you want your home to smell like skunk farts, that's totally up to you, but I wouldn't want to have to deal with it when I'm out in public.

Do what you want to do. I'm all for legalization. I just don't want to have to deal with pot-smokers when they're doing it. I don't want to smell it. I don't want to have to put up with their silly-ass behavior. I don't care if they do it at home. I don't care if they want to laze about and be stoned all day. I just don't want them to be able to go to work stoned, drive stoned, or blaze up in public where non-potheads might want to be.

To me, a pothead is no different than a drunk. They're still people who use mind-altering crap to deal with things. I never needed it, and I really don't like hanging around with people when they are drunk and/or high.

However, I'm liberal enough to be totally in favor of legalizing it for anyone over 18 years of age. My feeling is that this may be the only way we can get the potheads to talk about something other than how stupid it is that weed's not legal.

Those that are already inclined to act this way...are already acting this way. Those who don't (and that is most of them), won't. Not a whole lot will change with legalization. You're already surrounded by potheads, like it or not.

It's ridiculous that Florida has still not enacted medical marijuana law.

Florida has all types of "pain clinics" that are dispensing pillow cases full of OxyContin to any idiot who claims to need "pain management." There are people swarming into Florida to get OxyContin so they can sell it in their home state. These pain clinics are perfectly legal despite the fact there is an overwhelming amount of abuse going on.

Healthy people get pulled over with 200 OxyContin and a prescription from some shady doctor and that's perfectly legal. Get pulled over with Marijuana and you're headed to jail. (Unless they have made Marijuana possession an infraction and I haven't heard yet)

You are stupid for smoking it. You should be baking with it or vapeing.

/and the only thing stupider than smoking it is that failure of a pill that doesn't work and costs a fortune
//signed the petition and will be voting on it come election day

Hippy, do not tell me how to enjoy my marijuana. There is nothing wrong with vaporizers, but acting as if smoking marijuana is a huge health concern makes you sound like an asshole.

How about everyone do what they want with their bodies and chill the fark out.

I'd rather deal with those than drunks pining for a little hair of the dog to take care of the DTs at eleven in the morning.

And I've known both types of people.

ZeroCorpse: Yes. Because what Florida really needs is more stoned people.

The more stoned people Florida has, the fewer people will be tempted to try bath salts and gnaw someone's face off.

The only gnawing you do on weed is countless defenseless Funyuns.

I'm thinking more of the senior citizens who may end up driving through farmer's markets... but then again it's not like I'll be in their path. Vote on, my fellow citizens.

There will be a spike of horrible accidents just around 4 pm, the early bird special time.  mmmm munchies, a sensible 4pm dinner time and in bed by 6:30.

Florida is the "reddest of the red" states; I know, I live there.

Even if they've got enough votes to get it on the ballot, the existing morons in office will simply throw it out on some technical reason before it can come up for a vote. They're currently sitting in their offices with the "ha ha, I'm in office and you're not" mentality.

The real problem is that Floridians are so stupid, they insist on voting their party line even though they completely disagree with what their candidate does. I see it every day.

The Florida Legislature plays no direct role at this point.  The Legislature can propose amendments but not reject them.  The Legislature can argue that the wording of the ballot question does not adequately explain the consequences of the amendment, but the Supreme Court decides that one.  The Supreme Court has discretion to re-word the questions but usually they decide to just throw the whole thing out.  Anyhow it sucks to get all of those signatures and then get your amendment thrown out, but it rarely happens.
In the last few cycles the legislature has proposed a bunch of amendments, with many of them being challenged and rejected by the court.  Our legislature is made up of morons who get paid $26k a year to have a job with an 8-hour commute.  John Morgan is an ass, but he's not a moron.  This ballot question will stand.

I signed the petition in spite of the fact that it's being pushed hard by an infamous personal injury attorney that lost his driving privilege due to numerous DUIs.
