They don't smoke enough of it there, quite honestly. If they did, maybe they'd question their status quo a bit more.

Now now.. only 20 states have made Med Mar legal.
I recently moved from Colorado, back to Ohio after 2 decades of being away.

My money is on Ohio being the last state to line up.

GRAFFIX. Now that takes me back. Ahh, youth...back when weed was only really potent, as opposed to psychotically potent. Doubt I could handle one solid rip these days.

Like a bicycle.
So I am told.

My most recent weed experience was three bites of a cookie at a Thanksgiving party. Literally, took a cookie, broke it in half, then in half again -- so, ONE QUARTER of a cookie. One hour later, obliterated high. I was the guy on the sidelines of the conversation, giggling my ass off. Steely Dan never sounded so good.

Tol' ya.

I figure it'll be one of the Deep South states where they still associate smoking weed with listening to that Black Jazz Music and the subhuman Black Man coveting them white wimmens.

whidbey: I love how marijuana was made into a Schedule 1 class controlled substance by nutjobs like Harry Anslinger and paper product moguls like DuPont, but somehow there is still a morality stigma held by otherwise normal middle class people that pot is somehow wrong and you're stupid to smoke it.

Brilliant propaganda, or just ignorance?

Some of us base it on our fairly vast experience dealing with giggling, slacker pothead peers who can't do anything but smoke weed, talk about weed, and each snacks all day.

Yes, in my opinion, that makes  some people stupid to smoke it.

A toke every once in a while for medicinal purposes or to mellow out after work? Not my thing, but if you want to do it that's fine. The problem is that most people I've known who use it aren't that conservative with their usage, and they end up laying around for hours smoking it until they can only say stupid things that they think are deep, and giggle uncontrollably.

And there's also the smell. Some of us simply hate the smell and don't want to smell it in public. If you want your home to smell like skunk farts, that's totally up to you, but I wouldn't want to have to deal with it when I'm out in public.

Do what you want to do. I'm all for legalization. I just don't want to have to deal with pot-smokers when they're doing it. I don't want to smell it. I don't want to have to put up with their silly-ass behavior. I don't care if they do it at home. I don't care if they want to laze about and be stoned all day. I just don't want them to be able to go to work stoned, drive stoned, or blaze up in public where non-potheads might want to be.

To me, a pothead is no different than a drunk. They're still people who use mind-altering crap to deal with things. I never needed it, and I really don't like hanging around with people when they are drunk and/or high.

However, I'm liberal enough to be totally in favor of legalizing it for anyone over 18 years of age. My feeling is that this may be the only way we can get the potheads to talk about something other than how stupid it is that weed's not legal.

DarknessTigerpaw: Florida is the "reddest of the red" states; I know, I live there.

Even if they've got enough votes to get it on the ballot, the existing morons in office will simply throw it out on some technical reason before it can come up for a vote. They're currently sitting in their offices with the "ha ha, I'm in office and you're not" mentality.

The real problem is that Floridians are so stupid, they insist on voting their party line even though they completely disagree with what their candidate does. I see it every day.

This really can be an awful place to live when it comes to voting. The results of basically every election are pretty clear (at least in my county) before the vote is even held. That includes votes for things like Republican primaries: whatever the "man" says to vote for, they will vote for. In this case the "man" being the fat cats already in charge. You have a valid point. I had forgotten that Florida was the kind of place where people will inject/eat/breathe/lick ANYTHING to get high, and if it eats away their skin or causes them to crave human flesh, they don't care.

So yes, pot might be better for Florida. Hell, now that I think about it, we should make it mandatory for anyone with a drugs conviction in Florida to switch to pot. That might cut down on the number of farked-up stories we hear.

That's really not a very tolerant attitude. Also, it's unlikely you're going to smell it since most places ban smoking now. As for the effects of "mind altering crap" many of us enjoy coffee, wine, beer, whiskey and yes even cigarettes. There's no shame in altering one's mental state, no matter how much you'd like there to be.

However, I'm liberal enough to be totally in favor of legalizing it for anyone over 18 years of age. My feeling is that this may be the only way we can get the potheads to talk about something other than how stupid it is that weed's not legal.

It's a valid position. What part of "nutjobs" and "paper moguls" made pot illegal did you miss back there?

And yes, marijuana should very much be treated like spirits or fine wine not only in terms of regulation, but socially. It's called "cultural advancement."

Read up on The Great Awakenings.  Something about the American mythos (come and recreate yourself) and jeebus (revivals - washed clean once more! New beginning!).  Anslinger arrived to head the FBN straight from the Prohibition Bureau.  Sure, plenty of racist rubric and purest fabrication but, Anslinger was competing with J. Edgar for Federal Funding.  Sure, photo shots of broken bottles and whiskey pouring into the sewer were better PR, but there was a shiatload of hemp to be photographed with as it burnt.  Anslinger was doing most of the propaganda work (no need to appeal to anything more than the thwarted puritanism of the trashed Volstead  Act and spotlighting minorities as the agents of the new devil).  Science and Medicine couldn't compete then, and are doing only slightly better now - the Devil?  Easy to invoke and shake in the faces of the rubes like some bladder totem.

If all the marijuana, that transshipped through Florida, from 1970 - 2013 were baled and piled, I'd expect you'd be able to recreate the Miami Skyline by stacking it all up and still have enough left over to smoke a few bowls.

It's ridiculous that Florida has still not enacted medical marijuana law.

Florida has all types of "pain clinics" that are dispensing pillow cases full of OxyContin to any idiot who claims to need "pain management." There are people swarming into Florida to get OxyContin so they can sell it in their home state. These pain clinics are perfectly legal despite the fact there is an overwhelming amount of abuse going on.

Healthy people get pulled over with 200 OxyContin and a prescription from some shady doctor and that's perfectly legal. Get pulled over with Marijuana and you're headed to jail. (Unless they have made Marijuana possession an infraction and I haven't heard yet)

No kidding, few years ago they closed some 60 or so pill mills in Central florida alone? One of my fathers friends got cancer, his hospital doctor gave him 90 vicoden a month or maybe it was 120? some odd number. He was selling them for $5 a pill, with his income at $515 a month, be barely could even cover his trailer rent and his light bill, this was supplemental  income to him to buy food and such, and his prescriptions, let alone cab rides to the doctors office and back.

Actually you get pulled over with 1 pill that's not in your name (or have a prescription bottle for) you will wish you had some weed on you instead trafficking a controlled substance. After they busted all the pill mills, they clamped down on the trafficking of pills hard. There was some guy whose buddy gave him some viagra and he drove across a county line and got prison time for trafficking viagra. I have no idea why Viagra is a prison sentence but I guess its a controlled substance apparently.

I'm wondering how soon till cops realize they won't be able to bust "Weed" buyers and shift to these old folks trailer parks and bust little old ladies just trying to make some extra cash. I'm guessing it won't be long if weed becomes legal here.

Those that are already inclined to act this way...are already acting this way. Those who don't (and that is most of them), won't. Not a whole lot will change with legalization. You're already surrounded by potheads, like it or not.

Mztlplx: I signed the petition, and I'll vote for it come the election. Don't really care who's pushing for it, as long as someone is.

/been through chemo twice (melanoma). MJ helped quite a bit.

Personally I think medical marijuana should be legal everywhere. In fact, medical anything should be legal anywhere. If you have a medical condition and the only thing your doctor can prescribe to help is cocaine then let them prescribe it. They already prescribe worse drugs than this anyway. I just don't get it.

ladyfortuna: UsikFark: vicioushobbit: UsikFark: CJHardin: I Like Shiny Things: I just walked in on my daughter toking up on a 6' grafx bong.

I have no idea what to do, so I thought it would be best to get on Fark and make a post about it.

Inform her that she should not bogart it, advise her to puff twice and then pass it.

One does not simply puff twice on a six foot bong.

Seriously. Good god.

A glass bong in that range must have a little kickstand on the end. I'm guessing it was more like two feet, or maybe an elaborate hookah.

Oh my god, that looks like my ex. It would be out of character but... it could also be him...

It's some out of shape guy with a didgeridoo. I found it through GIS. *shrug*

The potheads, just like full-blown alcoholics, are the easiest to see.  You likely know people who enjoy pot responsibly, but don't realize that they smoke at all.  The guys who fit the stereotypical stoner template are easy to see, the professionals who don't buy into the 'pot culture' image look just like everyone else, and don't go around wearing Bob Marley t-shirts so saturated with smoke that you get a contact high from standing next to them.

One of my best friends through high school found out that his parents smoked pot only after they told him after he turned 18.  I'd spent a lot of time at their house, he lived there, and neither of us had a clue.  They didn't walk around stoned during the day, didn't wake-and-bake, and didn't use it when minors were around and awake.  They held respectable jobs and were a completely normal middle class couple.

Most people who enjoy marijuana don't let it define them.  Basing your opinion of all pot smokers on potheads is the same as thinking that everyone who enjoys alcoholic beverages is like the wino who lives in a box in an alleyway.

DarthBart: I figure it'll be one of the Deep South states where they still associate smoking weed with listening to that Black Jazz Music and the subhuman Black Man coveting them white wimmens.

wjat's wrong with black jazz music?

I'm looking at you NOLA

whidbey: I love how marijuana was made into a Schedule 1 class controlled substance by nutjobs like Harry Anslinger and paper product moguls like DuPont, but somehow there is still a morality stigma held by otherwise normal middle class people that pot is somehow wrong and you're stupid to smoke it.

Brilliant propaganda, or just ignorance?

snocone: Ruiizu: DarknessTigerpaw: Florida is the "reddest of the red" states; I know, I live there.

Thank god I'm not originally from here, but that also makes it painful to live here at times.

Can you spell Diebold?

Even if there really is voter fraud, the people where I live actually curb their opinions to match the fraud. That's what really sucks.

Ima4nic8or: Hopefully the law makers will reject it.  Dope is not medicine.  It screws up peoples brains and turns them into addicts, thieves and whores.

High quality medical marijuana doesn't get the patient high as the THC is low. It's actually a good metric to identify the people who are REALLY for medical marijuana and those who are using it as a cover to get any marijuana legalized.

/thinks drugs should be treated just like alcohol by attacking the acts while using not the using.

Obviously.
Been years and the fraud has been exposed, forgotten, and the beat goes on.

Good. Now they just need to legalize meth and I'll be a happy camper.
