Misleading headline is misleading.

Or rather, a commentary on the original article, that WAS pretty leading and goofy. And the final paragraph sums it pretty well.

"But if you want to meet men as equals, if you want to fill your life with amazing men and boys as lovers, as life-partners, as friends and colleagues who treat women and girls as human beings rather than a walking assemblage of "signs of fertility" - believe me, they are out there - then I wouldn't start by changing your hair. I'd start by changing your politics, and surrounding yourself with people who want to change theirs, too."

It's hair, people. It's not rocket science, and looking for "proof" that there's a conspiracy to keep menfolk from being A-Number One is just reaching. It's hair. Styles come and go. Easy, breezy, sometimes a little skeezy, it's hair. If you're looking for statements with your do...you're looking too damn hard.

I shave my head. It's easy to take care of. There are folks who shave their heads for Locks of Love. There are skinheads who use it as a statement about their allegiance to some fairly racist crap. There are British skinheads, who identify with working class roots, and listen to a lot of ska and reggae--oddly enough, which tends to be Jamaican popular music, and a lot of early skins were black--who are anything but racist. There are a lot of folks who shave their heads, because it's a style. Just having a shaved head doesn't make me an instant race baiter. Gals with short hair aren't doing it to goad Conservative menfolk. Or if they happen to get a reaction from asshats, that's maybe just a bonus for having a kicky do.

That folks spend a lot of time and effort looking for reasons to be offended about what other folks do with their hair, that's pretty gottverdammt sad. Worry about their actions, their words to you. It's sort of like getting offended by someone who happens to have ink on their skin.

I had a dishwasher who has a swastika tattoo. He did a short bit of time for some dumb crap back in the day. He got the tattoo because Lowell is NOT an easy place to be if you're alone. He got taken in by the Aryans, and that kept some folks off him. Quite literally. He's not a racist, but he recognized the need for protection, and he joined up, because he really didn't have a lot of choice in the matter. He got out, he kept the tattoo, not for politics, not for gang affiliation, but because he wanted a reminded, a visceral one, of where he NEVER wanted to be again. He wakes up every day, and he sees that thing, and it reminds him to stay on the straight and narrow. And it's worked too. Has a wife, a great kid, and a decent job, and he keeps the tat covered, because folks might assume that he's making a statement with it, when it's a more personal reminder to never get involved with sort of sh*t again. Symbols do have meaning, but it's more important to understand the meaning that folks themselves invest in it, as opposed to projecting your own onto them. Projecting your own meaning onto others' choices, and assuming that yours is the ONLY possible, that leads us down some ugly roads. Sometimes a haircut is just a f*cking haircut. My acid drips for the article that spawned this one. Some folks need to stop looking for reasons to be offended...

Why is this in the Business tab ghetto? Mainpage it, it might turn into a good thread.

It's no one else's business how I wear my hair.

they would fair much better if they adopted work ethic styles to make them look as much like men in the workplace as possible...like talking about the cleavage of Betty in Accounts Payable, slapping Kelly on the ass in the mailroom, sleeping with the bosses wife, talking about sports instead of the bachelor and stop asking for something called maternity leave and then quitting your career a short time after that leave.

Only if you're wearing a helmet or burka at all times. Otherwise, people can say whatever they want about your dumb haircut and you will have to deal with it.

Every woman I know who's cut their hair short has done so because they had kids (babies like to grab hair) not to be more manly in business.

Now if they would simply start working more hours to reach the same average number as men, we could finish up that paycheck equality stuff.

My ex (who has no kids) chopped hers off. She still looks cute but was very attractive with longer hair.

Most women cut their hair off as a way of announcing that they are no longer interested in attracting members of the opposite sex. It is a white flag some middle aged women wave.

This.

You work smarter, longer or network like crazy - usually you've got to pick 1 if you want to keep your paycheck, and 2 if you want to start moving up. It's not a gender specific issue.

I didn't start getting attention from guys until I cut my hair to a short spike.  Between that and "fark me red" lipstick I was crawling with boys.

Some guys like skinny chicks and others are butter ball chasers.  Same goes for hair.

I cut my hair short (shaved to .5 inch) because I wondered what it would be like to not have to brush and style it every day.  For the record, it was awesome.  I really don't know what people thought about it, I never thought to ask.

The 'manosphere' really hates short-haired girls.

And guys with long hair. I've actually been told that my hairstyle makes me look "unprofessional, like you're just coming off the street a homeless man."
