This I agree with. The only way our votes count is if there is less concentrated power in government. Keep yours, I'll keep mine, don't give government enough power that it is worth being co-opted by major financial interests.

Frank Zappa sez:
It can't happen here
I'm telling you, my dear
That it can't happen here
Because I been checkin' it out, baby
I checked it out a couple a times,
And I'm telling you
It can't happen here
Oh darling, it's important that you believe me
That it can't happen here
Who could imagine that they would freak out somewhere in kansas...
Who could imagine that they would freak out in minnesota...
That they would freak out in washington, d.c.
It can't happen here
Everybody's safe and it can't happen here
No freaks for us
Everybody's clean and it can't happen here
I'm telling you it can't
It won't happen here
You're safe, mama
Oh, we're gonna get a tv dinner and cook it up
Oh, and it won't happen here
Man you guys are really safe
Everything's cool).
Who could imagine
That they would freak out in the suburbs
They had a swimming pool
I remember (tu-tu)

And they thought it couldn't happen here
(duh duh duh duh duh)
They knew it couldn't happen here
They were so sure it couldn't happen here

farking media.  not sure why the Western media has started downplaying this... I was reading more coverage and support prior to the riots breaking out.  you'd think the Western gov'ts would've cranked up their condemnations of Yanukovich's regime after they started shooting protestors, but I guess not.  my thoughts are either:

1.) given the income disparity and shiatty economic conditions pretty much everywhere in the world right now, NO government wants its people seeing images of civil unrest, regardless of whether they are friendly to Ukraine/Russia or not..

or

2.) after some early diplomatic support for the protests, the western governments all cut deals with Ukraine (read that to mean Vladimir Putin & Russia) to keep out of it... in exchange for something else from Russia.  Who knows what that could be,

There were pics a few days ago showing police making Molotov cocktails.
And I too am wary about the possible reasons the West is downplaying events. The working photojournalists are rocking out HARD tho.

That's what you get in a former Soviet state with lots of surplus Cold War gear around.  Either they already have it laying around from items being issued to people or the black market probably has everything you could desire.

Detroit in the late 1960s was hardly a socialist state. And riots happened there. Lots of riots. All it takes is pushing people to the point where they have nothing to lose. If too much power/goods/freedom is taken away from a large enough group, this can happen.
